No, that means he's a sexist and an asshole, those things aren't mutually exclusive So what is the word when he insults a man? Is he only an asshole and not a sexist? If he had ever insulted a man for being a man then he'd also act sexist against men. He's never done this. You can also insult women without being a sexist. But reducing women to their looks or her menstrual periods is sexist. So insulting a women's looks in the context of a beauty pageant is sexist, got it. Sure, women who participate in beauty pageants are still people, not objects Then is it sexist to insult a man's looks in a bodybuilding context? No, men aren't body-shamed the way women are. Hang on, so it's sexist when you attack someone based on their insecurities which are predictably unique to each sex, however it is not sexist to defend someone based on their insecurities which are predictably unique to each sex. Social categories aren't symetric; some of them occupy the dominant position, others are subject to the definitions and norms imposed from the exterior and by history. Which is why the same behaviour can be seen differently depending on who's the target (e. g. calling someone “monkey” doesn't have the same meaning if the person is white or black). calling a woman "little piggy" is just as bad as saying, don't call her "little piggy", shes a woman! Trump on the other hand just calls people mean things for the same reason regardless if they are women or men. No, it’s not.

Yes, this isn't rocket science I perceive sexism to mean judging/insulting someone unfairly because of their sex. Assuming a woman is weak, over-emotional, etc. Insulting someone because of their looks, you could kind of argue, has nothing to do with gender. An ugly is an ugly. Since you can evaluate a man and a woman based on attractiveness in all the same ways, what makes judging looks sexist? I don't see what is sexist about it other than the qualities a woman is judged on are different than a man, simply because they are physiologically different. A man's chest can be criticized, but a man's chest is expected to look differently than a woman's. It's not sexist to judge a woman's chest differently. It's just that women's chests have different qualities. At the end of the day, it is judging looks, right? reducing women to their looks is like the oldest trick in the book to invalidate them as individuals. Trump does it all the time, see his "how can Hillary satisfy the US if she can't satisfy her husband" comment from years ago. Also why the fuck is he commenting on Miss Universe in the first place. He is running for the white house. Do you wake up at three am in the morning ready to insult random people? Does the guy suffer from tourette? Never forget

I honestly am very curious to see how McConnell leads his party in the next Congress once Clinton is elected president, whether he keeps his majority or not. I wonder if the GOP will attempt to be as obstructionist or re-think its strategy in light of how its base is partially rebelling against its leadership. I'm not expecting major changes, but it'll still be interesting to see how things proceed post-Trump's candidacy.

Machado took a different tone when asked about Melania Trump, who, like Machado, was a model and immigrant. Trump was born in Slovenia.
“I think I speak more English than her,” Machado, a Venezuela native, said. “I don’t see anything about this girl. She’s a doll. She’s a decoration. That is how I see her.”

Anyhow, when Trump calls someone low energy he is implying they are like a girl, so it is also plays into sexism. The modern GOP is a good case study for unresolved masculinity issues, though it is a bit sad others have to suffer for it.

Yes it is, I also wouldn't vote for her either. I think the general rule of thumb is to keep reality TV stars away from public offices

The modern GOP is a good case study for unresolved masculinity issues, though it is a bit sad others have to suffer for it. the way you infantilize women just reaffirms my belief that you guys are just closet sexists claiming to be paragons of virtue instead And we're back to GGTemplar's "When I burn a cross on the lawn of a black family you can't infer anything from that because you don't know for sure that I don't also burn crosses on the lawns of white families so who can really say and anyway you're only saying it's racist because they're black so you're distinguishing between blacks and whites so really you're the real racist here, not me!" argument.
It didn't work then and it doesn't work now.
Someone thinking that men and women or black people and white people or whatever else are different is not intrinsically sexist, racist or anything else. There is again, as always, historical context. Insulting a woman's worth based upon her appearance is reducing her to an object whose only value is her physical appearance, something which ties into the entire history of human sexism pretty neatly. To give a race equivalent, it'd be like dismissing Obama saying "I wouldn't pay shit to buy Obama at the market, man looks like he's never done a day's work in his life, he wouldn't last two hours in the plantation".
Different groups are different and have different historical contexts. You can't keep saying something sexist and then whenever it's pointed out leap to "you think women are different so really you're sexist and I'm not because it'd be fine if I said that to a man". It just doesn't work that way.

Roy Moore, Alabama Chief Justice, Suspended Over Gay Marriage Order
The chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, Roy S. Moore, was suspended on Friday for the remainder of his term in office for ordering the state’s probate judges to defy federal court orders on same-sex marriage.
The suspension was imposed by the state’s Court of the Judiciary, a nine-member body made up of selected judges, lawyers and others. While the court did not remove Chief Justice Moore from the bench entirely, as it did in 2003 after he defied orders to remove a giant monument of the Ten Commandments from the state judicial building, it effectively ended his career as a Supreme Court justice. His term ends in 2019, and Chief Justice Moore, 69, will be barred by law from running again at that time because of his age.
The court was unanimous in its judgment, the decision said, because of both “his disregard for binding federal law,” exhibited in a January order to the state’s 68 probate judges to refuse marriage licenses to same-sex couples, and “his history with this court.”
No one expects Chief Justice Moore, a major figure in the culture wars since before he entered statewide office, to depart quietly from the political scene. In the years after his first removal, he ran for governor twice, though he finished far behind in the Republican primaries. He considered running for president in 2012 but decided instead to run, again, for chief justice. His victory without a runoff in the 2012 Republican primary rattled the state’s political establishment, and many high-profile Republicans openly supported the Democrat in the general election. He won with a slim majority. Source

Some of you right wingers seem to insist that you can say whatever you like and then whenever anyone points out the obvious historical context like "women weren't valued for their humanity or contributions to society but rather for their appearance" or "black people were described as subhuman apes to justify slavery" y'all go "oh, I never knew that, you see I'm actually new to earth and nobody filled me in on the backstory".

Not only that, but many seem to hold the belief that if someone behaves like an asshole to everyone, that person's specific behavior towards women cannot be labeled "sexist". Yet it's perfectly possible to be an asshole to men and women alike but to nevertheless insert sexist elements in one's treatment of women, as Trump regularly does (and that is an understatement). As Nyxisto said, the two aren't mutually exclusive.
