The jurors reached the decision Friday evening, less than six hours after they began deliberations. The trial lasted two weeks.
Hogan, whose given name is Terry Bollea, sued Gawker for $100 million for posting a video in 2012 of him having sex with his former best friend's wife. Hogan contended it was a violation of his privacy.
Gawker's editors contended the video and an accompanying post was a newsworthy commentary on the ordinariness of celebrity sex videos. Jury Awards Hulk Hogan $115 Million in Gawker Sex-Tape Suit
Ooof, Gawker definitely took it in the ass. I wonder what the judge is going to reduce the verdict to.

Between that ruling and the jail time for a guy behind the Fappening it's possible people may work out that it's not okay to put sex videos of other people on the internet. Maybe.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County is relishing the opportunity to host Donald Trump at a rally on his own turf Saturday — and serve as the muscle at the same time.
After taking a few days off from his long streak of attention-grabbing rallies, Trump is cranking back up this weekend, and he has scheduled one of his events right in the backyard of the long-serving and controversial Arizona sheriff.
“Here I’m gonna be kinda wearing two hats — in charge of the security there in the town and also participating, I would imagine, with Trump in the rally, so it makes it interesting,” Arpaio said in an interview with POLITICO, adding that it “is going to be a lot of fun taking care of business there.”
Arpaio, who officially endorsed Trump in January, said he’s expecting protests at Saturday’s event. But the 83-year-old sheriff, who has repeatedly been accused of racial profiling Hispanic residents, says Trump’s clashes pale in comparison to his own.
“I’ve had demonstrations against me constantly,” he said. “He hasn’t had that many demonstrators, compared to me.” While it’s not clear how much of a protest presence there will be for the midday rally, some of Trump’s recent events have descended into chaos. Just last week, his rally in Chicago was abruptly canceled after skirmishes started breaking out both inside and outside the venue. In North Carolina, a Trump supporter was arrested after sucker-punching a protester and later saying, “The next time we see him, we might have to kill him.”
Trump’s critics have accused him of inciting violence. They point to comments in which he told supporters that he’ll pay the legal bills of anyone attacking protesters and warned that “riots” will break out if he’s unfairly denied the Republican nomination. He’s also lamented not being able to punch back at protesters and reminisced about the old days, when “they’d be carried out on a stretcher.”
But Arpaio said Trump is getting a bad rap.
“They always repeat little minor things, what he said in the rally, ‘oh you gotta carry him out on a stretcher, blah, blah, blah,’” Arpaio said. “I just thought that when you have a rally, you’re supposed to rally people and kind of say things that are exciting.”
Arpaio said in the interview late Thursday that he wasn’t yet sure what role he will play on stage in Saturday’s rally in Fountain Hills, which is about 40 minutes outside of Phoenix proper.
The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for confirmation that Arpaio would be speaking at the event, but Arpaio’s office confirmed he would at least be in attendance.

It never made any sense that Gawker thought throwing up the Hulk's sex tape was completely fine free speech. But linking to the fappening was some affront to personal privacy. Wut?!
They're either both free speech and fine or they're both invasions of privacy, you don't get to have it both ways! Then again Gawker is about as low as it gets on the totem pole of journalism or brain power.

Wow. That Gawker verdict was just for compensatory damages. They haven't even gotten to the punitive damages phase.

What did he dodge? How did he lose composure? Are you still claiming he "walked out" or we're you merely implying that he left when it was over?

115 million to have sex with this. Poor Hulk. He might never recover.

To me the interesting thing about Hulk Hogan's sextape is that he apparently said "nigger" in the recording, and that was the part people found scandalous. Tapes are frequently a boon to people's celebrity - probably more for women though. But for Hulk Hogan... "Oh, you made a sextape? No big deal, we don't really want to watch it. It was leaked? Well, that's not unexpected, but your privacy was clearly violated. Wait, you said what? This doesn't represent our values!"

Just read Trump's tweets for the past 2 days. Nothing but ad hominem, child grade ad hominem at that. Now going after the WSJ because he didn't like something about an editorial he saw. And calling Megyn Kelly "sick" and "crazy" repeatedly. This from the guy whose critics "will have a tough time" if he gets into office.
It is almost an insult to your own intelligence if you support this guy.

People like Harry Potter, right? What's so wrong with the reading level of Trump's speech?

Do words, or the best words, play into that reason?

Harry Potter isn't up for presidency. I don't understand why people think it's fine to have a president that pretty much is less eloquent than a boy in puberty. I didn't understand it with Bush already.

It's rather easy to understand, but if it makes you feel better to pretend not to see the problem, that's fine.

I believe he gives an enormous amount of speeches and I think it should be expected for a presidential candidate to be reaching a wide audience. I don't believe purporting to measure the "reading level" of his spoken words is meant to do anything besides call him stupid.
