Please. Defending Trump on these bullshit incitement of violence charges that are being recklessly thrown around by his opponents requires zero critical thinking. Y'all are the ones doing mental gymnastics trying to frame Trump as the next Hitler, complete with his own regiment of brown shirts. There are plenty of legitimate grounds on which to criticize Trump, but this isn't one of them. Unfortunately, many of you are too apoplectic to see it.
People are drawing the fascist comparisons because Trump's disregard for the rule of law and the fact that he promises impossible things is what drives the people to him. They love that he is 'politically incorrect', 'does what needs to be done' and so on. He's not only not part of the political establishment, he's anti-democratic in the sense that he wants to trample over any line of decency and democratic tradition etc. just for the sake of doing it. American conservatism usually is pretty individualist and respectful of the law, he's at the complete opposite end of the spectrum. Of course combined with his nationalism this provokes Hitler comparisons.

One of these days, you're going to post a comment that you actually mean sincerely as a means of contributing to intellectually honest discourse, and we're not going to believe you because you cry wolf all the time with your troll posts. And we're going to refer you back to your comments from yesterday and today.

What law has he disregarded? He's said he wants to expand one law in terms for fighting war to get the other side to capitulate to end the strife. Yes. What law has he broken or disregarded?
Anti-democratic? How? He's running a fair campaign and is being assaulted from every direction. Just because he's winning and people don't like him is no reason to be overtly butt hurt.
Trample over democratic tradition for the sake of doing it? No.
America can survive a few years of crushing the PC outrage machine.
If anything you should be glad he's really, really exposed each individual media outlet on where their loyalties lie. And he's also exposed the GoP to even new records of their bullshit. It's been a wild ride. And Bernies people were very disgruntled to learn how the media portrays whom they don't want as well.

i... am somewhat skeptical. theres a crowd casually gathered around watching some dude beat another guy with a bat in front of a deli, and then the dude only stops when trump gets out of the limo and everyone gasps "le donald to the rescue", then runs away like a kid caught with a hand in the cookie jar saying he did nothing wrong?
there's quite a few inconsistencies in the article as well.

I don't think Trump is Hitler. I just think he's just a thuggish douchebag who doesn't do several things that I think decent human beings should do. I don't think I had to do any mental gymnastics to get to that point.
I mean I guess that doesn't disqualify him from being president-that has way more to do with just the moon base level policies he has-but I think it merits discussion in the thread.
Edit: I mean I don't really comprehend how people can watch his early debate performances and not conclude he's a douchebag and a bit thuggish rather than some super great guy beset by media harriers on all sides but that's just me
Edit2: For the record I watched the Apprentice for a couple years in high school and even then it was clear he was a thuggish douchebag
You don't think he's Hitler,
you just think he's a thuggish douchebag.
In fact you singled him out as such from celebrity show appearances.
Next up: Hillary supporters defend the accusation that she is a vengeful harpy. I see that also going places.

Would you rather I said "Donald Trump character"?
Because he plays the same character on the Apprentice (his brainchild, natch) that he did at the debates, I can assure you of that. The same one he plays at the rallies and ~1/2 his speeches. Unless you're counting the debates as celebrity show appearances too, which I guess they are.
And I can assure you that at some point during the debates Trump will imply Hillary is a vengeful harpy (already made a move tacitly calling her a bitch) so we have that to look forward to.
Edit: Thinking about it he was probably douchebaggier at the debates than on the show for the most part.
Edit2: Also all I'm doing is calling it like I see it. Isn't that one of the great attributes of Trump?

I don't think that's why he's being attacked here. I think in the absence of other things there's nothing multiple liberal TL/LD/LL posters would like to see more than the destruction of the GOP and the nomination of someone whose most popular conservative positions are as insubstantial as fairy dust and half as implementable and who hems and haws about the ACA, Planned Parenthood, and the like (though he pays lip service to repealing ACA on his website). I mean it's not like he'll actually implement his tax plan as is, he knows how budgets actually work. Most of his other positions have boiled down to "appoint people that know what they're doing" which can't be much worse than what Bush accomplished.
That's why the GOP are running attack ads against him though, you're right.

One more thing Trump has going for him. His opponents are easily characterized as humorless nitpickers. And they dive into the box willingly too! You can imagine the political commentators saying after the show how low-brow enjoying reality TV is and that they would never be caught watching it. Not the reality but the perception. His excesses get half the shock washed away because everybody seemed irate at the first syllable anyways.
Look at the coverage of the next Trump rally. The footage shows a guy that's clearly enjoying himself, firing off jokes everywhere, feeding off the excitement of the crowd that he doesn't really have to say anything. And they're talking about decorum and the dignity of presidential office. Jeb was gone from the first news cycle of "low energy." His TV critics fall into the same camp.
That's what came to my mind when I heard your thuggish douchebag. It telegraphs a yearning for a gentler pansified candidate, like some NPR broadcast on music. The word douchebag itself is overused by a certain crowd that you just wonder how many times racist/sexist/bigot/homophobe/misogynist will occur per sentence. (I say this knowing how disgusting some of his attacks were in later debates and rallies). I said earlier that personality charge was going nowhere in a debate thread, after some thought I now wonder why you picked those in the first place.
The unique thing of becoming a president is that person represents the face of their country, in this case our United States of America. Being as vulgar and crass as the average citizen does not sit well with me, it is an insult to the standards and obligations that we should hold as a super-power to present ourselves as. If we cannot even act the part, what makes us any better than the barbarians or the savage horde that you all seem to look so down upon?
