Just look at the 'American Dream' answer. He actually just mumbles for like 10 seconds and then starts going on about someone's nice hat. This isn't some media savvy genius. He's a moron that everyone has rallied behind because they are also morons. Trumps rise is mostly a backlash against political correctness and the increasing threat posed to the 1st amendment by the left.

I dunno it seems more like a backlash against people who can construct a sentence.

I agree. Thinking that at least 150 million people are idiots just does not make sense - it is more probable that the idiot is only 1, who is writing that post.
The trend of calling entire populations 'idiot' when they vote someone you do not like is disgusting, really really disgusting.
Also, people bashing Sam Harris? This forum is doomed

So debate the point with me, show me i'm wrong. The fact is that Trump has shown over and over again that he is really stupid. He's unable to debate things without resorting to insults, unable to stay on any kind of point for more than a couple of seconds, egotistical, contradictory and worst of all proud of all these qualities, and everyone laps it up. Explain that.

Trump could say literally anything, as long as he put it offensively, and would get just as many votes.
Trying to blame the people that point this stuff out for his rise is a ridiculous tactic. Its like blaming the rest of the world for North Korea's evil stupidity, because no-one just accepts it.

I am honestly not prepared to debate that. I do not follow American politics so much.
What I simply want to say is this: there are deeper reasons as to way people vote one person. Believing that in 4 years all voters got dumb (while before they were enlightened people voting for Obama in a historical turn of events) it's a stupid idea.
I watched some clips of Trump - he jokes and the audience loves this. He is basically a stone in a pond of boredom - shaking things up. As for the other points you said - egoistical, contradictory, etc., I can't really help you because I would have to answer with a question 'do you know any politicians of our times who are not egoistical or contradictory?'

The deepest reason I can see for voting for Trump is that people believe that they have a right to offend others and a duty to carry out that right. I'm sorry if this seems overly sarcastic or people are insulted by it (the irony isn't lost on me) but the guy is unable to put together any kind of coherent plan or belief system. People seem to be voting one by one for the offensive things he says because they like how offensive it is.

People vote for Trump because they realize that the Dem and Rep establishment are the same thing and want to burn it to the ground. People talk about how Trump doesn't have a platform but at least you see him taking questions from reporters, at least he has debates and you see him talking. I don't remember the last time I've seen Hilary on tv taking questions, or saying anything other than 'I guess I'll just do whatever Obama is doing now'... apparently thats a platform.

burning the whole country down usually also has impact on people that are still inside...

Having a difference of opinion should not be offensive, yet it is to leftists especially the ones at university. This is the generation who demands "safe spaces" and "trigger warnings".Instead of debating ideas on their merits the left increasingly focuses on the race, gender, sexuality of who spouts those ideas. It is a worrying trend.
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. The left created Trump.

If Sanders was winning (a tough call with the superdelegate issue) the mainstream media and democratic establishment would be going after him as hard as they're hitting Trump now.

aren't you a trump supporter? are you basically saying that you yourself comfortably consider yourself the 'insane extreme on the other side of the spectrum'?

Fixed that for you. The left isn't the side that's spreading hate and fear based on people's religions, and Trump took over the Republican presidential primary, not the Democratic one. The left supposedly threatens the second amendment, but the right threatens the first. Left-wing extremists will occasionally complain about getting offended by speech they disagree with, but that's far less common than the marginalization of entire groups of people by mainstream Republicans and conservatives, from their presidential candidates to Fox News.
|
Another huge part of it is a lot of conservative/republicans are utterly disgusted with the republican party. It seems like a worthwhile short term sacrifice to vote for a moron like trump if it utterly dumps the establishment on its head so that there is an actual conservative "party" in this country. I mean from my point of view its not like I think Trump will accomplish things or make it better (and he really is quite stupid), but the current establishment is actively making it worse. Certainly I think 4 years of trump would leave us better off than 4 years of hillary. I would consider maintaining the status quo on most everything and getting rid of the ACA a complete vindication of voting for Trump. At least it temporarily delays the slide into the abyss and maybe creates an atmosphere where we could actually get a good president/overhaul our utterly corrupted political system.
I mean I grew up in an extremely conservative atmosphere and am currently back in a rural environment where most of my friends etc are self employed commercial fishermen, but I spent my share of time in undergrad and grad school. The thing is in my experience the liberal university crowd just doesn't understand how other people can have world views that are completely irreconcilable to theirs and they think they are smarter than anyone who disagrees with them.
Edit: That said most of the die-hard trump supporters are also just stupid. There are some other forums I frequent for other interests of mine (hunting/trapping/commercial fishing) and I avoid politics on them like the plague because its just a Trump circle jerk and most of the posts make me ashamed that I generally agree with some positions because the majority of posters are illiterate mongoloids.

Meh, I can think of some "differences in opinions" that are so ignorant and factless that I feel justified in being offended by them. Young Earth Creationism and the anti-vaxxer movement come to mind.

Well, if in America a 'quite stupid' person can build an empire like Trump did, I can't imagine what an 'intelligent' one would do

I don't know how they could. Trump has countless skeletons in his closet, and all the mainstream media does to attack Trump is just record and play back the stupid stuff he says on a daily basis (with the occasional embellishment). Sanders is actually a good, honest guy who doesn't say bigoted, idiotic soundbites though, so they'd have to literally fabricate an entire case against him. All they really have on Sanders is "socialism", which is a dirty word but it's nothing compared to the Trump binder.

Intelligent ones start with nothing and become billionaires.

Well, I mean "stupid" in the way I assume most of this thread does. He says "stupid" things to appeal to "stupid" people but obviously its working.
I mean we just got past some retarded measuring of intelligence discussion in this thread but its quite possible hes actually more "intelligent" than HRC. It's not the persona he shows though.

the biggest issue with trump is not intelligence but having no bounds on his own apptitude.. he does not know when he has no clue and no mechanism learning from (intellectual) failures
