I suggest you leave the conversation im suprised no one has acted angrily towards you. You sound like an absolute hypocrite who seems really vengeful about white people. You honestly think that the current generation of white people don't know what racism is like? Give me a break, some Asian countries are even more backward than the rest of the world in terms of elitism.
The people angry at the video are worried that this bad generalization of foreigners will affect how they are treated overseas, and for good reason.
Asians are generally more respective and polite than you may know. Consider this from an asian pov. You are being culturally insensitive about their values and integrity. As an asian living in Australia I have personally seen guys who get aussie teen girls pregnant. Girls gone wild? Go deny it. Stuff like this almost never happens in asia. Crimes rates are lower in asia, and it is a much safer society. This is why the asian media is generally shocked at the rape/crime in western countries.
The OP is merely an exaggeration but does raise awareness. If foreigners are worried then they should get their act together and set a better example. Just like most asians living in western countries aim to study hard and have much higher level of ethics and morality. You are not here to judge and no one should be. Literally 90% of university enrolments are asian and reflect theirs expectations. Are asians guys overconfident in engaging girls in clubs? No. If anything it is well known that caucasians are generally more confident in engaging in relationships.
Asia is a big place, filled with all kinds of people. Also, "literally 90% of university enrolments are asian" is undoubtedly untrue anywhere outside of Asia.
As a white Australian who has lived in both Korea and Japan, everything you just said is incorrect. Also you're assuming that I have no knowledge of Asia, chances are I have as much if not more than you. I'm not offended by the video personally but I am by you. The questions and generalizations and comparisons you have drawn to black/white relationship are stupidly ignorant.
its obviously an exaggeration, you get the idea, here in australia the top high schools and universities are filled with asians. same thing in america, Ivy league universities are filled with asians despite only representing a minute fraction of the population.
there are tons of documentaries on the harder working asians. if it weren't for the evenly racially distributedrequirements at universities in america, you'd have a staggering increase in asians.
@mateshade
as i said im asian, and you being culturally insensitive. It is a well known fact that asians are less promiscuous on average. It is not disputable and not an opinion of how I think asians choose to conduct themselves. Too bad these 'select' foreigners are giving you a hard time hooking up.
They're filled with Asians because international students pay more for fees and universities want money. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Please stop trying to discuss this
It's kinda funny to read some of the reactions here. Before demonizing these "hopelessly xenophobic" Koreans, do me a favor and look up what the white males back in early 1900s did to the Asian males due to perceived threat to the white women (and this fear really had very little basis in reality since interracial marriage/dating was extremely rare back then) -- and trust me, some "terrible" reporting is absolutely trivial compared to murders, lynching etc that was committed.
It is in human -- specifically male -- nature to be greatly incensed when they perceive that their women are being "stolen" by another "tribe." If the opposite case were true (a widespread trend of Asian male-white female couples and not the vice versa ), I guarantee you that some sensationalist reporting would be at the bottom of the list of things to worry about...
(Btw, I won't deny that Korea's journalism is terrible including this particular piece, but the video elicited such hypocritical, myopic responses that I felt compelled to retort)
I did a little googling around on the claim that Koreans are angelic in comparison to westerners and found a funny article where a Korean newspaper's attempt to sensationalise foreigner crime backfired when they neglected to mention that the actual percentage of arrests per pop for foreigners vs korean nationals was less than half. This isn't just white foreigners, the highest foreign offenders were mongolians, by number of offences and percentage, apparently. Just makes you wonder how saintly the white foreigners have to be by comparison to keep the rate so low.
Not saying white people are angels, but it seems Koreans do in fact have ulterior motives for this kind of reporting, not based in reality.
Not really different from what we see in the US, just on a different scale. Things like this exist everywhere, just in different forms. This case just seems more extreme b/c it's a very public and overt form of racism derived by generalizing a small subset of the population.
America is really no better. The constant cultural racism against foreign males in many levels of society including hollywood, American middle/high school culture, immigration laws (Arizona), etc. America is just better at being more subtle about it b/c it makes them feel better about themselves and being overt about it wouldn't be the best course of action for a country touting equal rights. This doesn't apply everywhere in America but neither does it apply everywhere in Korea so some of you should get off your high horse really.

You certainly cannot just pay your way for Ivy league universities. You need good test marks as well. Crappy universities take any money from any student. See where I'm going here? You have no ethics whatsoever. yes that's true, but it is undeniable that asians would want to attend universities. A lot of rich aussies I know don't want to go to university. They live of their families wealth. Poor or not, even the poor asian families would sacrifice a lot to send their kids to uni.
What do you know, none of my caucasian classmates wanted to do well in high school.

Lol hypocritical and myopic. So people can only discuss videos if we consider the entire history of interactions between countries. Just because shitty things happened in the past doesn't mean that shitty things happening now are ok.
As for getpicture you have some good points but just...stop with the unneeded jabs and sense of superiority. Test scores and attendance comparisons between one country and another is not sufficient to generalize in such broad strokes. Not to mention that it falls outside the scope of the conversation regarding the reporting piece.
It's a somewhat offensive video but I don't blame them too much.
Some of the stories make those guys seem like huge scumbags, I'm just not convinced that it's just "foreigners" doing that. Douchebags who will do anything to get in a woman's pants are everywhere, it's not really fair to pin it on "foreigners", although it's just human nature to blame your problems on others and it's not like every other country in the world doesn't do this in some form or another.

Do you have any evidence for your claims?
I live in vietnam, and it is a legit issues here. You can do some research about it if you want. I cbf looking it up.
So it's a legit issue because you watch the news or you've actually looked at some scientific evidence? Which one?
wtf? Scientific evidence for what? That's a freaking major issue that almost everyone is aware of in vietnam, though it's not as bad as it used to be since people are now more aware of it.
Scientific evidence for the claim that you've made. Have you looked at any or do you just watch the news?
Okay calling bullshit on you. Sometimes, certain discussions shouldn't always boil down to "DO YOU HVAE ANY SCIENTIFGIC EVIDANCE". You can lay off of the Dawkins pipe for a sec here and come back to earth. Yes it is important to have evidence for what you believe, but all over asia traveling foreigners do sleep with the looser asian women pretty regularly. This is well known based on many anecdotes abroad from individuals and their personal experiences. Now to go as far as this documentary goes and say they are victims because they were going around being loose with a bunch of guys, well that's a bunch of bullshit and I agree that they portrayed it very propoganda'y. Lots of dramatic reality tv evil music, etc...

about the only sensible post in the whole thread.
Not really, while the end point is correct, calling people hypocrits because of something that happened before they were born is just unfair

That's a particularly pertinent comment to make as an Australian (or at least, someone with their TL location tag set to Australia).
Actually, reading comments from Australian posters on this topic has been particularly interesting.
I have noticed, empirically, that here in Australia, it is vastly more common to see white guys with "Asian" girls than it is to see Asian guys with Caucasian girls. I have casual theories as to why, but without academic evidence, not sure it would be worth posting here ...

Shitty things happening? You must live a padded lifestyle if you think hearing some bad press about expats is a shitty thing. You know what's actually shitty?
Being shafted in real life because of your ethnicity -- and I am referring to more important and encompassing things than just "our women getting stolen." And if you don't think this subtle yet suffocating racism exists in countries like America, then once again you are too comfortable in your privileged lifestyle.
As I see it, this report is only a small, pitiful (and I mean that in many senses) cry against the cultural colonialism that has such far-reaching implications that it even encompasses "our women women getting stolen." Of course, it's xenophobic, but you would be too if you were constantly being short-changed. Heck, I would gladly trade some bad press for the white men's privilege.
