Actually nice of you to bring this up. Because yeah, just about every other pro player out there thinking it's all cool to throw around racial slurs on the ladder. So if you know any other pro players going "gook" or other racial slurs out there just post the screenshots here and let the community decide and tell the sponsors (and Blizzard for that matter) if they find it acceptable. thanks for asking. I take that to mean you emailed quantic's sponsors in this case? Shame on you. I'd like to see the people who emailed the sponsors actually admit to it in this thread, but I doubt they will. And it's telling that they aren't willing to admit it. How do you feel about doing damage to Quantic and it's other players before even giving Quantic a chance to respond? You're Swedish - do you consider yourself a fan of Naniwa? What if he's going to lose some benefits as a result of this? What if this has caused him and other Quantic players worry which hurts their practice mindset? Was there no other way to communicate your opinion to Quantic than to go straight to their sponsors? I think that deep down, the people who contacted the sponsors realize that it wasn't really to carry the banner of justice and do the right thing for esports. It was just to fulfill some cynical urge in them to be destructive and incite drama. And that's why I haven't seen a single person in this thread admit to it directly (though someone correct me if I've missed it). The bottom line is that you're doing more harm than good. We would be better off without you as a "fan". Now let's see if any of them will admit to it in response to this, or if they will just continue to hide in their little holes. i emailed razer. and i stand by it. personally, i think any racism in any form is absolutely disgusting, and im exactly the same in real life. if people i know act racist tell them not to, and if they keep doing it i stop any associations with them. if you are stupid enough to think that e sports can grow beyond what it is right now with behaviour like that your very stupid. and i dont feel bad about not giving quantic a chance to respond because if no one had made a fuss, they wouldn't have. it not the first time destiny has said thing that he wouldn't get away with in any other role, and they have continued to support him. if quantic had chosen destiny over razer they would have been silly, and deserved to fail as a team. and obviously, razer wouldn't have stopped supporting them unless they had no choice. so i dont feel bad about hypothetical situations that were very unlikely to happen. if you want the SC2 community to be consist solely of immature children and socially retarded adults who have no idea how the real world works, then indeed you would be better off without me as a fan, but since thats not what i want, its not something that im willing to give up basic principles to help. and im sure youll laugh at the basic principles bit, but to me, discrimination against anything that you cant help, be it race, sexual orientation, or just a problem you were born with is wrong and should be fought at every moment it rears its head. ive already stated why i think that destiny is actually a racist in the previous thread, and not, as many of his fanboys have said just using it as an expression of free speech, or in an attempt to help bring awareness to the problems, which is another laughable line that has been spouted several times. the bottom line is that while what i did may not have been good for destiny, its good for esports, and TL, to attempt to distance ourselves from things like this. if you want to have a SC2 scene where you can say things like that without getting in trouble, its called /vg/, and its fucking awful How interesting that you would post this in the brazzers thread: Show nested quote +On April 04 2012 06:58 halfies wrote: i dont think it would really be a good idea, but only because people act really stupidly about porn. personally, i wouldnt have a problem with it. i think that the drunk SOTG episode was way worse than a simple brazzers logo appearing on screen. alcohol ruins way more lives than porn ever has. Surely a rape simulation site is degrading to women, wouldn't you say? What do you think other sponsors would think about having their name alongside brazzers? Wouldn't esports be impure with brazzers involved? Why didn't you email razor immediately when Quantic signed destiny? What changed with the public thread that convinced you you need to now email razer immediately? Answer: you were jumping on the bandwagon of drama and mob mentality. You and the others like you jump straight to the logical fallacy of painting this as a false dichotomy, where the only options are emailing the sponsors or accepting that racism is a part of esports. Why couldn't you email Quantic or post on quantic's website? Get off your high horse and admit that your actions were nothing but destructive. uhmm, im kinda flattered that you have such bad arguments for this case that your going through my previous posts in an attempt to dig stuff up on me. the brazzers issue is different because pornstars arent born into being filmed fucking for money. i also dont think that you can really say that a very poor rape simulation is degrading to women as a whole. sure, being paid to take part in a rape simulation is kinda degrading to the actual pornstars, but im pretty sure its a choice that they have made. obviously, im against real rape videos, and even against the worse stuff that is faked, but brazzers is tame. the level of rape that brazzers shows, is, to my knowledge, not beyond what might be considered a slightly embarrassing fetish. if its harder than i am aware of, and is the kind of porn that you could say with any credibility increases teh chances of rape, then i would take back what i said in that post. if you want to say that you have never watched porn because you think that all porn is bad for society then at least you have a moral position to stand on, and although i would think your wrong, i would respect it the reason i didnt email razer as soon as quantic signed destiny is because i dont watch enough destiny streams to know anything more that 'destiny is a dick' i know he has said stupid shit in the past, but i was hoping he would slightly mature. since i dont watch him, this thread is the first time ive really noticed it since then. my actions certainly were destructive to destiny. but sometimes you gotta blow up giant piles of junk to make something better, and since id rather have mainstream esports without racists than destiny and his army of fanboys, who dont really improve this forum, or sc2 in general. im going to stop replying before i get abusive, i feel like the majority of dsetiny supporters arent going to have there minds changed by anything, and it just going to get personal soon.

There are very, very few industries that you can actually get people to defend you when you call someone a derogatory racial slur, and esports is apparently and unfortunately one of them. What do you want us to do? He uses a racial slur on his stream that thousands of people are watching, a thread is made, he comes into the thread saying he would rather keep using those kinds of terms instead of issuing an apology and shows no interest in changing. No one is asking for Destiny to stop saying anything, no one is asking him to be a completely different person, however this whole situation is easily avoided, if people just stop using those words. That's it. It's really not that complicated. Don't call someone a racial slur, don't get this shit fest. Works 100% of the time. If you can't control your emotions enough to not call someone a racial slur then you have some real anger issues. Then so be it, we are pathetic as a community....... You are kids, not we. We defend Destiny because we know that making Destiny stop using racial slurs won't purge racism from the world. The only way to ultimately get rid of racism is to accept the fact that by cencoring words, you are encouraging its power. You are kids, because you do not understand that we're not white knights on horses whose purpose is to save the world from evil. We're an online community for a videogame, not an online forum for politics. Stop pretending you can make an impact on the world, because you cannot. By having a player from this community punished you are not contributing towards your so-called "goal" of purging racism. You are harming the community. Stop acting, get a grip, grow up and go out. If you want to contribute towards the elimination of racism, then start by accepting the fact, that for aslong as you cencor racial slurs, then you are filling them with meaning and hate. Having a player removed from his StarCraft 2 Team will NOT make an impact. What kind of post is this? so now we think we are the police of the community, and now i have get out of my house and eliminate racism? What kind of EU trash logic is that? It is your so-called goal. Or perhaps you want to admit to have started this situation based on personal hate towards Destiny, and not because you want to eliminate racism afterall? PS: we all see your hate. You are losing your grip. You did not prepare for this. Did you not see my earlier post??? I emailed razer from 8 different emails, with 8 different well written essays.... if you write 3 page essays, they listen. I got him booted from his team, and banned from TL for a bit. Well worth it it only helped esports to rid us of his behavior. If he does not change, i can assure you the pitch forks will come out again. Your personal hate will get you in trouble. Stop using racism as an excuse to have particular players you don't like removed, simply because you're far too retarded to simply leave his stream. PAntythief, I have never turned his stream on ever..... and i never emailed anyone but this is the position i side with, I don't think Destiny is good for our community or our esport. I would not waste my time writting the sponsors lol, i have finals next week. But i side with anyone that did email them , because quantic did not take action...

You want to WIN, and someone else will LOSE. When you are the loser, you lash out. It's natural. Putting importance and meaning to the words of an irrational emotional person who just lost a game that they play for a living is a fucking joke. That's the problem, you somehow see his rage as joking. Calling someone a fucking faggot then telling them to fuck off g**k doesn't really seem like a joke, especially after the person whom he said it to makes a thread about it complaining. Again I understand that when you lose you can get frustrated but I'll reiterate what I said in my OP, when you make it a personal attack then that's crossing the line. Also to all this 'where do we draw the line' bullshit is tiresome, I keep seeing people posting it. How about we start at racial attacks. Seems like a pretty good place to draw the first line here. So if you posted every replay you've ever played, every chat log from your messengers, and every conversation with your friends, you've never called someone a "fucking retard" or "bitch" or "moron" or "faggot" or "dyke" or any of the above? You're a pure person who uses only the terms outlined as objectively morally acceptable by every group in existence who might take offense?
1. It's reasonable to expect someone to never use hate speech. It's just not that hard to avoid. And if you get so angry over a video game that the words just "slip out" then you should probably be doing a lot of thinking about how you handle problems.
2. In the event that you do slip up, it's reasonable to expect an apology. We all do make mistakes and some of them are quite embarrassing. But if you apologize instead of defending your actions you'll often be greeted with apathy instead of a lynch mob.

If you want the sc2 community to be sponsored, it's SO EASY.
Keep things clean - i'm sure razer would love to have sponsored Destiny if his behaviour was consistently like in the JIMMMMYY NOOO clip. Literally the only thing about that post was even remotely correct was that Razer is a company that makes peripherals. However, they sponsor multiple teams. They do not currently make a profit off of their sponsorships. They are sponsoring based on perceived future ROI, the notion that SC2 will grow instead of shrink, and that they will always be held in a positive light for their sponsorships, and never a negative one. When you tell them, "I will buy a Razer product because you sponsor Quantic!" that helps a little. When you tell them "I will never buy a Razer product because of Quantic," that hurts a lot. They don't need to sponsor esports. If you think they do, you're way off base.
Here's the crux of the issue - Stop making this a community that accepts and actively defends unacceptable behaviour.
I understand that you are vehemently arguing for people NOT to contact the sponsors, but I personally think that this gets to the root of the problem faster. Stamp out unacceptable behaviour from professionals? Go straight to the sponsors.
The gaming organisation is now motivated, and the community will learn that some things are off limits. If 50 people had emailed Quantic regarding Destiny, I wonder how much it would have moved them to act. Destiny was a known quantity when Quantic recruited him - they knew what they were getting. It happened with orb, and now with destiny - when will you learn?
I understand razer are, just like other sponsors, not getting any direct financial gain from sponsoring. However, they are evidently happy enough to sponsor the sc2 community - if it turns into a scumbag community then obviously they wont sponsor. We share the same opinion, but I'm saying the root of the problem is the behaviour of players rather than just saying "please don't contact sponsors - you're killing the scene". The players are killing the scene by condoning this behaviour.

I really wish people wouldn't message sponsors about a single player and act as though the whole team is at fault.
That being said, this is the best thing for both parties. Destiny doesn't rely on quanitc for money but other players like Naniwa and Sase do. So Destiny leaving so that the team Quantic can retain its sponsorships and connections is super important.

I'm sorry, but in what sporting/professional context is it acceptable to call someone a gook, nigger or any other racially demeaning term? I can't imagine any. Recently in the premiership (football) two players have been in serious trouble for racial offences - nobody is defending them on the basis of their right to say what they want or that the abused players should have a thicker skin. In a public and sporting atmosphere, these words can cause offence to some, and they're just blatantly wrong.
I don't really have a problem if you want to joke around with your friends or whatever, but to publicly attack someone on their race, after losing to them, is disgusting, even if you don't genuinely mean what you say. Then, to stand up and defend your actions is just disgusting - I don't, and nor do most I imagine most people, care if Destiny thinks what he did is wrong, but clearly the other guy did. All he has to do is say sorry, and that he didn't intend to offend on a racial level blah blah. Instead, he looks like an immature child, but then again this is Destiny and what's new?

He uses a racial slur on his stream that thousands of people are watching, a thread is made, he comes into the thread saying he would rather keep using those kinds of terms instead of issuing an apology and shows no interest in changing. No one is asking for Destiny to stop saying anything, no one is asking him to be a completely different person, however this whole situation is easily avoided, if people just stop using those words. That's it. It's really not that complicated. Don't call someone a racial slur, don't get this shit fest. Works 100% of the time. If you can't control your emotions enough to not call someone a racial slur then you have some real anger issues. Go ahead and call someone trash or bad or shit or garbage but when you bring their race, gender or ethnicity into it then you are crossing the line into a very personal attack, which makes you look like an immature punk. The part of this community that is 'pathetic' are the people who come in here and tell people to just get over it, grow thicker skin or stop being sensitive. That's absurd. Maybe some people can get offended easily than others but telling them that they should just get over it when someone throws around language like that is just ignorant. That excuse doesn't hold up in the real world and if we're trying to make this look professional why should it hold up here? Just because you're on the internet doesn't mean you should get a free pass to act like a racist idiot. This guy understands it, If you are defending Destiny and think we are pathetic cause we don't want racist, prejudice kids representing our community.

How is eliminating the most popular player helping bring sponsorship. How is keeping a racist, prejudice, and vulgar kid, gonna bring us sponsorship? or get us to be more mainstream?
.Destiny isn't racist he is bm.And he brings in viewers.Mainstream means many viewers.Something that 99% of sc2 pros don't have:Hordes of viewers.

I've seen this coming. He has like no results but he does draw in a ton of viewers. I can't say I'm a fan of him, but I hope he has good luck with whatever he does from here.

This actually is a pretty childish post. The adult thing to do is to understand that racism is still a pervasive problem in our society (speaking as a citizen of the US) and that there is nothing we as individuals can do about that. At the same time, we should understand that when individuals in our communities (real or virtual) abuse people in racial terms, we can express our view that such activities are unacceptable. That's the reason you will never hear the word "nigger" in any kind of semi-polite conversation any more. (Google "frown power" to read about a similarly-themed civil rights campaign.) That certainly hasn't eliminated racism, but it does do a little bit to make communities a little less hostile for minorities, which is a positive thing.
I'm a little conflicted about the level of the outcry against Destiny. I mean, he is basically just a kid too, who has the mixed good fortune of having a platform that streams a lot of unedited content out to the world in a way that can come back to haunt him.
I'm definitely dismayed by all the sophistry from Destiny defenders. Free speech is not involved here. People against the use of the word gook as a term of abuse are not the real racists. It is definitely not the case that "the only way to ultimately get rid of racism is to accept the fact that by cencoring words, you are encouraging its power." (Really? You think that's going to do the trick?)

You do realize that you put all of Quantic's sponsorship on the line with that idiocy? You're like the epitome of what makes the community disgusting. We are being fucking crazy ass fiends, who just do whatever we want without any semblance of order or intelligence. We are running off emotions, and making all of us look like asses, to everybody, everywhere.
Get a grip Sc2 community, we are honestly pathetic. No, what's insane is the people who try to defend him. I literally cannot understand whatsoever how people try to defend Destiny when he uses racial slurs. I've seen countless people try to defend why he should be allowed to say it.
Not your community

If these trends continue, you'll cease to see growth. Destiny has expressed time and time again, like a normal human being, that he speaks his mind. He doesn't hide behind social norms and feels free to express his opinion on HIS stream, regardless of how controversial it might be. If you're easily offended, don't watch. No one is forcing you. I understand the mentality that with Quantic, he's not only representing the team, but all names and sponsors affiliated with it. However, Quantic surely knew enough about Destiny to determine whether or not the risk/reward with Destiny was worth it. As an open minded individual who completely dismisses the idea of "being offended," it's disappointing that people felt the need to push this far to punish someone for using their ability to express themselves. I'll continue supporting and watching Destiny, not because of how he plays or what he plays, but because of the person he is. Nicely said. I'm just gonna say that for the most part I really have started hating the SC2 community lately. It's all just incredibly base and hypocritical, people just stirring up drama for whatever reason and then heaps of people bandwagoning to just mob on a single person for whatever reason. Not to mention half the people in this community are actually so diluted that they actually think "using a racial slur = racism" wow, just...there is no reasoning with these rabid dogs. We were supposed to be better than this but we aren't, this to me is no better than any Xbox live community, it's just drama and sensationalism and hypicicy at every corner these days. How sad it is to see some 14yr old kid gets a power rush out of coaxing people to mass email sponsors and pressure someone like Destiny to quit his team. So I guess my point is that this community acts like it's better and more refined than other gaming communities but it isn't, if anything it's a bit worse because now half these people just act like irrational tools under the guize of "doing it for esports", how amusing.
how about you if you dont want people to think your racist: dont use racist slurs. people get offended by racial slurs. look at the history of the U.S. All the way from slavery to the civil rights movement to the struggle of gays and homosexuals now. the use of some slurs can conjure up feelings from a dark past in this country.
while i may not get personally offended by what destiny does or says, i can understand when people do.
Now the rubbish, "Not to mention half the people in this community are actually so diluted that they actually think "using a racial slur = racism" wow"
Really? This reminds me of that old Dave Chappelle stand up, "Just because I'm dressed this way does not make me a whore." Similarly, "Just because I talk this way, does not make me a racist."
Well that shit is confusing man.
