While I understand that there's a need to discuss this matter, this thread has way too many trash posts in it. Please think carefully about what you want to say. Ad hominem attacks on Swedish people in general, calling you fellow Starcraft fans idiots etc etc will be dealt with with harsher punishment from here on out. Keep it civil people.

Page 230: Here's some more stuff that'll get you banned!
- Conspiracy theory mongering about MLG and GOM
- Comparing people to Hitler
- Posting useless one liners of arguments that have already been repeated ad nauseum.

Way to insult both Korean and Swedish culture in the same post, even if you only meant to insult Korean culture.

Someone please ban that idiot. He is incredibly insulting.

Fucking retarded shit, obviously not thought through, just a snap-judgement-decision.

Joke joke joke joke fucking terrible joke

And everyone saying he deserved it and swedish ppl are definding him because he's swedish - That's fucking retarded, people defending him are the only ones thinking with a clear fucking mind.
I'm not saying what he did was good, and he deserves to be notified. Maybe a warning, to let him know that hey, that's not something we support for our invites, if you do something like that again you're out.

But not taking away something he worked hard for an entire year, now that's fucking retarded.

You clearly are thinking with a clear mind. Thats why you repeat words over and over and rage swear multiple times. THIS IS THE WARNING. It could have been much worse. And if you don't think they thought it through you are just so so naive.

Much worse? I'm surprised people are defending this, I'd love to hear the arguments of people who would defend a lifetime ban.

You obviously have no insite into the Asian culture or into professionalism in general so no point explaining anything. I never said a lifetime ban anyways.

Yeah asian culture in esports shows us inscruatable morals(savior scandle, xb, fruitdealer, coca, choya etc etc etc.)

They pretty much all got punished though

One by his own team because gom wouldn't and one by the government because he broke the law.

If SlayerS didn't punish CoCa, GOM for sure would have. SlayerS took action first to take responsibility for one of their players embarrassing them.

Not to mention that whole road to korea debacle with rakaka did yoou see how offended that one guy was in the youtube video about naniwas actions. They vowed to never let him in another one of their tournaments ever again. I dont understand swedish so i dont know what he was saying but he was fuming.

I dont understand how people can still say hes misunderstood after this.

Esports is taken alot more seriously in korea as well (like it would be in the westif it had been ingrained in our culture for the past 10 years) so things like this have bigger repurcusions then maybe they would in the states.

Although I still think all tournaments should frown upon stuff like this, it just pisses off the fans and probably the sponsors of the player as well.

GOM lost a lot of support from the non-korean SC2 community today. I certainly won't be paying for next season because of this event. I'm not even a Naniwa fan.

Half joking, half serious.

I don't see why Naniwa got revoked. According to TL that was the best match of the night. Why ban the guy that gave you the best match of the night?

Gom rules mean any strategy deemed "abusive" could lead to a ban. The rule is supposed to mean verbal or physical abuse but gom haven't applied it that way so I guess we shall see what other unjustified bans may come in the future.

Right if they are applying that rule in this case its a bit scary because they could technically just use it anytime. I mean how are you gonna prove Mr. Chae wasnt offended.

You're not a true competitor if you throw games to try to get an easier opponent or whatever. Any self respecting human being with the will to be the best will play ANY game to win and defeat MvP / Nestea in the ro32 instead of the finals if that's what has to be done. The motivation for playing GSL should be to beat the best players int he world, not to get as much money with as little effort as possible. Everything Mr Chae said about naniwas inetntions is true.

That being said its still not an appropriate punishment. A fine is customary in most sports for behaviour that hurts the professional image of the sport/game and I dont see why that shouldn't be the case here.

I absolutely abhor Naniwa for some of the insider rumors about what he's done to other people at tournaments etc and if you people knew about those none of you would even be supporting him as a player. But that's beside the point when it comes to punishing a player for something done in a tournament.

I think GSL has shown a great level of consistency. So much so, that it should have been obvious where Naniwa's actions would lead him. Choya, Byun and Coca are demonstrations of this in their own ways. I think Day9 and Incontrol were spot on in their assessment this past evening that what he did was inappropriate.

I can't think of a better way to punish someone who so obviously has issues mentally with restraining himself from either badmouthing tournaments (see MLG) or conducting themselves unprofessionally (probe rush). I don't think this would have happened if Naniwa was a superb, excellent stand-up guy that everyone looked towards as well mannered. Instead, this is an organization steeped in a culture of professionalism and competitiveness within the mecca of eSports that probably knows who Naniwa is, is aware of his behavior through the grapevine of the Koreans and team houses who take issue with him and who decided that they weren't going to deal with someone like that.

Naniwa needs to realize what a lot of hard-headed and stubborn people who think they can justify their actions with "Well, I didn't break any rules!!" need to realize: the world is all about perspectives. From his perspective, what he did was fine. If it wasn't, he wouldn't have done it. And his apology rings hollow like so many others he's given now because that's not who he is. He needs to learn how to mask how much of a scummy individual he is much better. That digresses from my main point: that their perspective is not the only one and usually, it isn't the one that matters. From the perspective of almost the entire community he was a guest in, he was offensive.

That's all that really matters.

I personally thought his behavior was poor just because it's one more bad decision in a long line of bad decisions. Even someone moderately following the scene is aware of this, so again, I figure GSL nipped this far past it's expiration date.

TL;DR: Don't act like a shithead your entire career and expect each incident to be treated differently. At some point, people grow tired of you and will use every incident, even the most insignificant one, to burn you to death. I would handle it no differently and I don't. I'm not about redemption.

GOMTV is so consistent about broadcasting meaningless games.. oh wait they haven't done it until the Blizzard cup.

It doesn't matter if the game was meaningless or not its still a game watched by thousands people, players and the tournament are sponsored by dozen of big companies, they play for thousands of dollars. Its not a place to behave like that. Punishment doesn't work on Naniwa, he already was banned in EU, he was dropped from like 7 big foreign teams in a year or something. If he doesn't change (and I think he wont) there will be no team in the world that will sign with him, and there will be no big event that will allow him to play. Time to grow up naniwa and think twice before you act.

He could have just spent 5, at most 10 minutes of his fucking life hashing out the last game, but instead he throws it, doing something that is obviously disrespectful to Gom?

Did you really think Gom would just sit idly by while someone gets on their stage and disrespects them?
How would that make them look?

It amazes me that such a large portion of the community supports this (obvious disrespect).

GSL has its rules. When you play in the GSL you have to know and accept those rules.

"During a match, a player shall not offend the opponent or audience with abusive behaviours"
Naniwa broke this ruley obviously. It was "absusive behaviour" and major parts of the audience as well as his oppenent were offended by this.

I would personally agreed more to a fine (like 50% of his GSL January prizemoney and at least 1.000.000 won, something like this) but a one season ban seems a little harsch. However I expected it since there were so heavy reactions in Korea, and they take their pride a lot more important, than we do in the western world. So in my oppinion it's the hardest punishment that's acceptable.
The main question will be, if Naniwa tries to qualify for GSL again, or if he ends this chapter completely.

All I see here is a clash of culture...

If GOM is trying to cater to koreans, who are demandiing more of Naniwa (and GOMTV is trying to keep the korean viewerbase) then it's the right course of action.
