They deprived their kid of a basic need for 5 days before he suffered a horrible end and who knows how long the actual punishment was. A week? A month? Incredible.

Gross negligence, it's just inexplicable. Parental discipline should not be equivalent to torture.

And it's terrible for the twin as well, because at such a young age he's witnessed the slow tortuous death of his brother... Despite being a child that no one would place blame on, who knows what might haunt him in the future.

He probably snuck some liquid here and there. If he was given a PB&J he was probably given some other meager things from which helped sustain him for 5 days.

I think the most disturbing part was that the reason for punishment was that the father and step-mother accused the dead twin of stealing guitar parts from the step-brother. What I interpret from this is that the step-mother felt no affection towards the twins and convinced the father (who clearly felt more affection towards his wife than his children) to punish the dead twin. I guess I'm partly biased because I experienced a similar situation with my parents (divorce) but I just find it extremely sick to force a child to accept a step-mother and step-brother. I find it even more sickening how the father failed to intervene in this, and let his child die.

Also, I can't possibly be the only one who fails to understand how the dead twin could let himself die of dehydration. If my parent deprived me of water, even for a day, I and I think many others would have notified SOMEONE and asked for help. I think we're not getting the whole story.

The sun must've fried the parents' brains because this seems like inhumanly, absurdly stupid punishment. To deprive some child of water in that temperature (or in any temperature), I could only imagine that these people had no speck of love for that boy.

5 days without water in Texas? People die in this state from lack of water in as little at 12 hours due to the extreme heat and humidity (I live in Texas and almost every day of this month has had a temperature high of 100+ degrees). What the hell were those parents thinking?

Paying to put them away for life is a great way to spend our tax dollars. Just sickening what they have done. The death penalty probably doesn't apply here but I think it would be a just punishment. Children should be protected not tortured.

The "three days" thing is hardly set in stone and varies a lot person-to-person. And yeah, without food you can last for months as long as you're getting water, especially if you're not doing any kind of labor.
