Some research found out that average age of players (not just progamers) is over 30 years because nowadays people dont quit playing they just keep playing even they get older :> Even with sports that are actually dependent on physical attributes, we're seeing longer and longer careers. 30 used to be about the end in football, nowadays there are numerous guys over that age playing 50 games a season.

yes but to win any money in Korea from prizes you have to WIN GSL, in EU and US you tend to get prizes for coming in positions other than 1st aswell
I'm pretty sure just RO32 of Code A nets you about $1500, it goes up depending where you place, and I'm assuming code S is a shitton more.
Actually WINNING Code A nets you about $1500, pretty much the same as going out of Code S first round.
Winning Code S gives you ~46k, placing second gets you ~$18k.
"Prizepool : 1st: 50,000,000KRW (~32,000EUR, 46,000USD) 2nd: 20,000,000KRW (~13,000EUR, 18,500USD) Ro4: 5,000,000KRW (~3,200EUR, 4,500USD) Ro8: 3,000,000KRW (~1,900EUR, 2,800USD) Ro16: 2,000,000KRW (~1,300EUR, 1,850USD) Ro32: 1,500,000KRW (~1,000EUR, 1,400USD)"
That's Code S.
oh I see, there is a problem with Korea tho in that forener scene is getting big now and Korea is half way across the world from every other esports scene and theres only really 1 bit Korean tournament where as there is loads in EU and US

Their players are very popular and thus good advertising. (and they have good players)

If you listened to the Weapon of Choice with Alex Garfield after they signed Puma, he said that Puma was just the first part of EG moving into Korea, stating that they would not simply sign Puma then leave him unsupported, so this will most likely be announcing the house and players who will be there.
Only way that Huk would leave TL-oGs is if he can maintain the same enviroment that he has just now. I still don't see him leaving to join EG yet I don't see many other foreigners warranting this level of hype around them.

In comparison, Code S is about $50k for 1st place this season! MLG's main event (Providence) is $50k for first place. And that happened once this year. The GSL is pretty much paying out 1 million in prize money over the course of a year. So? I'm just pointing out it's not $5k an event like he was implying.

But you're presenting a false dichotomy. What if you could make good (enough) money playing competitive SC2? Why does it have to be an either/or?
It's not like I'm saying people get into progaming for the money. They get into it because they love playing. But when making decisions about what team you're going to be playing with, money should definitely be an important factor, since you are spending the best years of your life on this activity.
I think you are overvaluing how much the lower tier players would be making, unless it was sarcasm.

There's a huge difference between average age of gamers and average age of pro gamers.
70 year olds drive cars. Most Formula 1 drivers' careers end around 30.

IMO it's pretty embarrassing that this thread has blown up like this. Are people completely incapable of just waiting? The only reason this has become 'hyped' and at risk of being some crazy anticlimactic event, is because people in this thread and threads like it(reddit) are building it to be something.
That said, I'm so sick of announcing announcements because it's blatantly taking advantage of this mob hype mentality that is apparently so pervasive.

You get 1500$ by winning code A. ro32 in code A is something like 300$ at most. It's like this for code S: 1st: 50,000,000KRW (~32,000EUR, 46,000USD) 2nd: 20,000,000KRW (~13,000EUR, 18,500USD) Ro4: 5,000,000KRW (~3,200EUR, 4,500USD) Ro8: 3,000,000KRW (~1,900EUR, 2,800USD) Ro16: 2,000,000KRW (~1,300EUR, 1,850USD) Ro32: 1,500,000KRW (~1,000EUR, 1,400USD)
