But I will become a Huk hater. I just pray that it doesn't come to that. That's really sad. A sellout is a sellout. Plain and simple. A professional gamer moving to a new team once his contract is up is not "selling out". The term "sellout" is used for artists who sacrifice their artistic integrity in order to appeal to larger audiences. / Using it in this context is absolutely juvenile. And by "juvenile", I mean that you appear to be about 12 years old, and treat Team Liquid as some sort of league of superheroes, instead of the professional gaming team that it is. Very true statement. If, for example, Peyton Manning were traded/resigned to say the Dolphins for way more money (for god knows what reason), people wouldn't be like OMG what a sellout fuck him!!! They'd just see it as "Wow, sucks for the colts but good for him he's making way more money." To be fair colts fans may well call him a sellout The real question is: Is it fair to judge a professional for changing teams for a greater opportunity? Come on, its a fact of life in sports, players just want the best for themselves and the fans will think what they want about it. The manner in which they leave the team could very well be looked down upon however: think Lebron James and that whole Heat party as soon as he left the Cavs. But if a player leaves respectfully and honorably I cant help but feel good about it. When a player is comfortable and where he wants to be, he performs his best IMO. Like Ben Wallace leaving the Pistons for the Bulls? For future ingame success, does anyone think being on EG is better than being on OGSTL? Do you think being on OGSTL will guarantee that Huk becomes a bonjwa who makes 200-300k a year? Because signing to another team for 80k a year (random number pulled out of ass) would guarantee that he makes 80k a year. If you honestly think that striving for skill for skill's sake while being provided food and shelter is preferable to making good money, then there's an honest difference of opinion that cannot be argued over. If making good money was your goal in life you'd never have become an SC2 progamer though. There are many, many jobs that make more. Like flipping burgers.
I'm pretty sure most salaried EG players make a fuckton more than burger flippers.
But you're presenting a false dichotomy. What if you could make good (enough) money playing competitive SC2? Why does it have to be an either/or?
It's not like I'm saying people get into progaming for the money. They get into it because they love playing. But when making decisions about what team you're going to be playing with, money should definitely be an important factor, since you are spending the best years of your life on this activity.

The more prizemoney to be made is a myth. go look at the top earners for SC2 they are al korean.
yes but to win any money in Korea from prizes you have to WIN GSL, in EU and US you tend to get prizes for coming in positions other than 1st aswell
I'm pretty sure just RO32 of Code A nets you about $1500, it goes up depending where you place, and I'm assuming code S is a shitton more.
Actually WINNING Code A nets you about $1500, pretty much the same as going out of Code S first round.
Winning Code S gives you ~46k, placing second gets you ~$18k.

There may not be prize money but there is salary and contracts, that is where the money is in NA. Idra make more then most code Sers snas big name earners like nestea, MC ect. He said himself that prize money just like an added bounes to him.

Look at MKP's earnings. marineking has been in 3 gsl finals >.> thats still at least about 10k per finals most of the koreans at the top of the earnings list are gsl finalists Please know what you are talking about. http://www.sc2earnings.com/MKP as 5th highest earning player. Any foreigner is still pretty far from coming close to his earnings.
uhh, i do know what i'm talking about, thats why i mentioned that marineking has been in 3 gsl finals, hence being a very high earner in the korean scene
i don't see what your point is

And that happened once this year.
The GSL is pretty much paying out 1 million in prize money over the course of a year.
