How is it? How old do you have to be to get into most clubs? I'm 17, but in Korean age I think I'm 19 ('87). Do they check ID?
Is it like in the Western culture where you can meet someone, hook up, etc, or is the whole clubbing mentality a bit different?
How about drinks? How much do they cost? I know it would obviously vary between the clubs, but give me a general range. I'm not loaded so I probably won't want to go to a place that serves only $9 cocktails.
I feel very strange asking this question here... but I don't know where else to post to get responses from Koreans (or those that have or do live in Korea, like rekrul, Legionnaire, etc) to something in English.

You have to be 20 korean age to get into the club. That means you have to be born in 85' (MAYBE 86).
Theres two styles of clubs. Hip-hop club and booking club.
I think it is much like western culture. Some girls are there to just dance and have fun and drink, some girls are there searching for a man they can date long term and want to get/give out phone numbers, and some are just sluts. Some are also all 3 combined.
At hip-hop clubs its basically very much the same as western clubs, bars, loud music, dance floor, seating around the dance floor for drunks, and two levels. Drinks in these clubs (cocktails/beers) are around 5-6,000 won (5 bucks). The music is mostly western hip-hop and some korean hip-hop.
Booking clubs you go with a group of guys, pay an exuberant amount for whiskey, beers, and a dish of fruit for your table. The waiters then bring girls to your table and sit them next to you all night long. The girls can get up whenever they want and they will drink your whiskey and beer. There are tons of tables in these clubs around the dancefloor and also private rooms if you want. The music is hip-hop and korean music, but mostly korean music. These clubs it's very very very very hard to meet girls if you can't speak any korean, but it's possible as long as you pay them attention and aren't shy. You will pay like 100$ per person atleast if you go. Girls often times get in free or for much much less. Each waiter at the job has a responsibility of filling up 3 tables worth of girls every night pretty early on, so they often have a long list of phone numbers of girls that they just call up and beg to come to the club that night for free and get free drinks.
So hip-hop clubs are more like just about physical attraction if you want to meet a girl, theres barely any talking and it's just too hard because it's so fucking loud. It's just drink dance drink dance drink dance. Korean girls will never ever make the first move (unless it's late and they are extremely drunk), you have to be slightly aggressive and show confidence. Booking clubs are much more about conversational skills. It's a pain in the ass finding a girl who can speak decent english. Often times you will go through 2-3 girls who just sit down and you try to make conversation and they just get up and leave before you find a girl who can speak eng that will stay for a while atleast. Unless of course its very late, then the girls just stay even if you can barely talk to them haha.
Some shitty hip-hop clubs you will be able to get into, but big ones like NB you won't get in because they always check ID, especially of white people. Most booking clubs you will be able to get into, except the best one BOSS because they check ID.

If you know a girl then take her to a club and drink it's EXTREMELY easy.

Rekrul, are you still in Korea?
Anyway, where are some of the good clubs that don't really check ID?
Where can I get a fake ID, and how much is it usually?
Next time I come to Korea I'm gonna party like crazy ~_~.
One last question, when does the club usually open/close? When is it the most crowded?
In terms of dressing, would you be out of place if you don't dress "hip-hop"? I'm kind of into the dress shirt/jeans/blazer combo lately ~_~.

Korean hip hop? Is it any good?? Is it like american hip hop??? Is there a Korean equivalent to 50 cent!????

One question....
The clubs in korea basically know one genre of music, which is hip-hop (either western (english) or korean)... They don't play any dance at all???
|
Please tell me there are korean gansta rappers! That would be so cool!

Yes I'm still here and I'll be here a long time.
No idea about fake ID's. The underground hiphop clubs that don't check ID's are everywhere, you just gotta know people who know where they are I guess.
Clubs usually open around 8 or 9 I think..hip hop clubs close around 5 or 6 am depending on how many people are left around 5. Booking clubs close around 6 or 7. Nah you wouldn't be outa place if you don't dress hip hop. I certainly don't dress like that. ALl the wanna be gangster koreans try to dress hiphop its hilarious.

Do you know the hiphop clubs that don't check ID?
|
hehe korean gansta rap does anyone know some names?
|
hahahaha those tiny little koreans in baggy clothes hahahaha
I hate hip hop
|
mm I hate hip hop to, omg I cant belive its still "hipp" in korea -- its so 2000 here in sweden :D NO dance music.....?
|
Don't even think about getting in with a fake id. The clubs won't risk it because if they get caught having underaged people (and the police do check often) they are fined heavily and can't open for business for three months so unless the fake id is a Korean SSN id (assuming you Korean) and it looks real, don't even think about it. If your white, they might accept American ids but if your Korean, they won't accept anything else except Korea SSN and driver's license.
|
And there are more than hip hop clubs and booking clubs. It's just that they aren't around as much.
There are euro dance clubs, techno/trance clubs, gay clubs, lez clubs, and much more.

I hate it when im going out clubbing, and the fucking dj starts playing rap. I give him about 15min to change song or im out of there. Rap is not party music, rap is either chillout music or its for the good lyrics (there are acctually a few). Party is party, that means loud and deep baselines, going at lightning speed

Hip Hop is popular music at clubs because it's fun to dance to. Trance and Techno have catchy beats but they're very repetitive and there don't seem to be many ways you can viably dance to them. It all starts sounding the same after a while as the songs are very similar to each other. You can also sorta sing along with Hip Hop music as there are actually lyrics, which makes it fun if the people you're dancing with also know the songs.
Yes, Hip Hop is more suited to dancing up close, which makes it quite attractive to young people who want to get freaky. Personally I don't mind a little contact as it's quite boring to just stand across from a girl all night. Doesn't feel like you're dancing with the girl so much as just dancing near her. If you want to talk strictly freaky though, go do some dancing at a Latin club
Hip Hop isn't really suited to people who don't know how to dance as it's really obvious when you don't know what you're doing. It's easier to hide that fact in Techno/Trance clubs as most of the people aren't really dancing anyway. Not sure about Dance music as the only time I hear it is in a Hip Hop club where the DJ decides to mix things up a bit.
Just my opinions anyway.

just make a fake ID in the US, and take it to korea. say you live in america.. you could even talk to them in english.. they won't cause too much problems
and uh... unless you're white or a good looking korean.. don't go grabbing girls' asses in hip hop clubs -_- they'll treat you like a perv

rofl.. they have booking clubs in korea town (L.A.) as well, and it costs a thousand or so for a damn table. I guess they're for guys with no self-confidence at all.

in germany there are many hiphop clubs too. i like it much, but since some months i prefer to dance to house. but with hiphop its easier to check womans. i love reaggee partys too, but only on weed and alc

When you see Korea from the outside you wouldn't think that their nightlife could be like this. IMO ppl world wide like hip hop to dance to, cause it has a good beat to it.

On January 25 2005 06:13 Chibi[OWNS] wrote:hrm i disagree. i seriously detest the half-assed don't-really-know-what-i'm-doing-here bullshit people conform to in clubs. if you look at 90% of people in UK clubs they are just standing around, maybe swaying slightly, the music is utter ASS, and there is absolutely no emotion or sense of enjoyment in the crowd. R&B is good music to socialise around but shit for actual dancing. most people don't even understand the true art of dancing at a club, they just stand around waving their limbs desperately trying to get some attention and re-assuring themselves that this is fun. go to a dance/trance club and watch them dancing ernestly[1] and furiously, free of the superficial values and this pathetic sense of vanity that plague today's so-called clubbers. this is real dancing, they totally immerse themselves in the music[2] and have the time of their lives. sure i'll go to r&b clubs, not like i have much option, but don't expect me to be happy about paying $10 to participate in one of the dullest and saddest musical procedures of modern society. unless i can get really fucking drunk there too [1] woo how often do you see this word these days :D [2] if you don't 'understand' a genre of music, trance or hiphop etc, it's very hard for you to comment on it. for example, i used to fucking loathe rap, but once i realised the importance of lyrics and simplicity and the way these are presented, i found i liked it a lot. same with trance; it can be very repetative, but that doesn't matter to me. or, it does matter and that's what makes it enjoyable. either way, it's fucking awesome to dance to, extremely immersive, emotional and powerful. and that's why it's good club music. albeit it might not be as social as r&b, but this is why i prefer to socialise around r&b than dance to it
First of all, you spelled "earnestly" wrong, so it takes some of the luster away from your usage of it But moving on...
I'm not sure how it is in the UK (haven't been there), but from what I've seen in the US, Hip Hop clubs generally have more people who know how to dance than Dance/Trance clubs. When I see people in Dance/Trance clubs, I don't see dancing so much as people doing whatever they want. While you can call this "dancing" in that they're moving to music, there's about as much dancing involved there as being in a moshpit. It's not difficult to follow Dance/Trance music as the beats are VERY similar and repetitive, how hard is it to jump or wave your arms along to a beat that never changes?
Sure it's great to see people get really into music and immerse themselves in the experience, but that doesn't really change the fact that when it comes to actual dancing with any semblance of skill, it's not as prevalent at Trance/Dance clubs. I'm not talking about the enjoyability of a Trance/Dance club, but the danceability (not sure if this is an actual term) of the music played at different clubs. I go to clubs because I enjoy dancing (all the better if it's with girls ), and I find Trance/Dance clubs and their music to be less enjoyable in that aspect as there's little variety in the beats and ways to dance to it. I think that you might as well go to a concert if you want to go to a Trance club as it's mostly just people watching the DJ and cheering him on while sorta moving with music. As to immersing yourself and being really into the music, this is very possible and prevalent in Hip Hop clubs as well, it's just a matter of what kind of music moves you best.
I'm not saying that Trance/Dance clubs are inferior to Hip Hop clubs, only that I find it more fun to dance at the latter moreso than the former for the aforementioned reasons. Conformity and half-assedness (another questionable term..) have little to do with the music being played and moreso the type of club and crowd it draws. From your post I get the sense that you just don't enjoy Hip Hop music and are assuming that everyone feels the same way when they try to dance to it. You can make the same argument against me, but I actually enjoy both clubs. I just prefer Hip Hop clubs, while I find Trance/Dance clubs more suited to people who want a more simple dance experience and are there more for the music as in concerts and such.
This post may be repetitive and not very well put together as I'm typing it up amidst taking notes in class, so bear with me

I have a question. How would a korean american do in korea. I'm suppose to visit in the summer of 2006 around may. I'll be turning 18 in july. Techinically in korean age i'm 20. Does that mean I can go to clubs? Also how would the whole id' thing work for me. I don't look like an american. I am 100% korean but I have lived in the U.S for my whole life.

cyric u have no idea what techno music is. the truth is u have to take good ecstasy to really feel it and dance ,then just close your eyes and enjoy being on pill. A dj set takes you for a trip and u have to listen to it carefully to feel it , don`t just listen to single track but from the beginning till the end. it`s not for everyone and u just need to like that kind of music.

If this is how techno music is supposed to be enjoyed and "danced" to, then I think my point stands as is. Getting high and tripping is not dancing.
