Some of you guys need to check yourselves, you're seriously detached from reality. Do you actually believe telling a good story is going to get you laid, and beyond that keep a woman interested in you for more than 25 minutes?

Just think about it... do you think a woman wants a guy who makes up stories to impress her and others? Would you look for that in a woman?
While I don't entirely agree with Squat on his whole philosophy (I think he's driving his head through a wall most of the time) at least he recognises becoming attractive takes some work. You all know what it takes. Cut the junk food, get your ass out on the track or to the gym, get a new wardrobe, actually do stuff aside from the video games and internet poor. Then you might actually have something to talk about and won't have to sit here and argue about the merits of (non existant) shortcuts to getting in a girls pants. If it's that urgent that you don't want to invest some time in yourself, just buy bottles, or better yet, tables, and if that doesn't work just pay an escort. Those will all be way more effective than telling stories about saving grannies from being run over by their own motorised wheelchair.
I kinda feel I should elaborate further on this because of all the ignorance posted above, but I can't be arsed. Already the mindset that you need to impress women to get her to hang with you is totally off and counterproductive.

I pretty much agree entirely, but that's why I don't understand why anyone could argue that DHV stories are bad when in fact they should be arguing that reaction seeking is bad. And yes it would be nice if everyone who is learning game didn't have to worry about micro managing value, that is the end goal of pickup in my opinion, but you have to have a perception of what your value is when you do certain things. That is why you approach set after set after set, to make all of these high value indicators (good body language, good tone, good delivery, timings of jokes, humour etc.) completely natural.
The thing with saying don't micromanage value is that anyone who needs to know that piece of advice should still be trying to consciously project value, and anyone who doesn't need to project value consciously any more (they are a natural, they don't need routines, tips on body language etc.) already knows what they are doing and the advice is worthless.
What I think would be better advice is "try and get to the point where you don't need to micromanage value anymore." Saying "don't micromanage value" is as bad as saying "be confident" or "just make her laugh", you need a high level of skill and lots of practice to do these things and by that point the advice is worthless.

Most people in this thread are looking for permanent, long term changes to themselves in order to increase their attractiveness. There is so much good pickup material out there about improving yourself in many many ways (many advocate picking up hobbies, not spending all your time trying to pickup girls, going to the gym, learning about men's fashion and self expression through fashion, having diverse interests and BEING HAPPY) in order to become successful with women, which includes improving the way you interact with women.
There are people looking for shortcuts to sleeping with women, but it is you who is ignorant if you assume that most of the people here believe telling a good story will get you laid.
Edit: Also please do elaborate further on the ignorance you've seen, I feel once you know more about pickup you will see that it is a very positive thing in most cases and that there are lots of people in this thread that can educate you about it.

DHV means demonstration of higher value.
If a story doesn't display higher value it is no demonstration-of-higher-value-story. Any element or story that demonstrates higher value is a DHV element or story.
Nothing there to discuss squattin, you're trying to fuck over very basic definitions so that you can keep up that little world view of yours. If you would admit that the above definition is absolutely and 100% correct, you would have to admit that you use those elements and stories yourself. All the time. Everyone does. It is natural to do so.
If you would have to admit that you use those elements all the time, you would think of yourself as a sorry ass loser who doesn't respect himself since that is what DJ Fuji said what people who use DHV stories are.

PPS: Since I just finally understood what squattin means with "Micromanaging value is bad" and claiming that "Naturals don't do that", I have to add for the general reader that this statement is also bullshit. First of all google gives a good impression of how popular that concept is. Second of all he means that you manage your value specifically to a certain situation or person. Once more, everyone does that. It's natural to do so. It's called calibration.
If you talk differently to your colleagues compared to how you talk to your friends or a homeless person on the street, you most likely show each of those persons a different amount of DHV/DLV elements. This is normal behaviour since it establishes our role in society and allows us to adjust our perceived value to an appropriate level.

Actually the applications of concepts that are suggested for most beginners are pretty damn close to build orders. Fuck it, they ARE build orders.
Goal should obviously be to turn that into thinking in terms of general strategy or tactics later on and finally into mostly unconscious behavior. So, yeah. If you look at the underlying principle of trying to become better at it it's the same like any other task, whether it's starcraft or learning martial arts.

I just wrote someone in a PM that I'm thinking about dragging all of my input into blogs since it's almost impossible to actually help people in this thread when I'm busy arguing that 1+1=2 and not 5 while squattin is busy arguing that I should make a video of me standing in front of a class where I PROVE that 1+1=2 because otherwise it can't be true. Dno, I usually hop in here every 30 pages, hope something has changed, get stuck arguing basic math, realize nothing changed and move along again.
In an ideal world this thread would be full of nerds who present specific spots where they're stuck with becoming better with women and other nerds who managed to find solutions for those spots. That would be productive and much more helpful for anyone.

Consider not engaging at all. Hopefully a mod will hear my plea and intervene, but if not, then we may just have to ignore the 1+1=5 posts entirely and freely use our report buttons ("post is off-topic and belong in blogs", etc) until the thread cleans up. TL;DR: don't feed the trolls.

Want to know why? When guys get good, they leave the forums unless they have a reason to stay, such as they are in the pickup industry. Most of the posts are the same questions over and over again and the moderators (most of them suck themselves) are tired of responding. You would think PUA moderators on PUA sites are good, some of these guys have a lay count of 2 - 3 total in their lives. Some of these guys are just the webmasters and keyboard jockeys themselves! Just because you own the website, doesn't make you good with pickup. I am telling you from first hand experience how many people are full of shit. Been to PUA summit 2010, PUA summit 2011, Casanovafest 2011, Casanovafest 2012, a whole buncha other GURU lair meetings, Seattle Christmas Lair meeting 2011. I'm telling you dude, you see these guys post like they know their shit, and you meet them in real life with full disappointment.
I went sarging in Seattle and so I started posting on the Seattle forums. A handful of the moderators there are creepy as fuck (not going to list names). One dude goes on Craigslist and tries to pay hookers. Trust me, moderator status doesnt mean anything. Post don't mean anything. The only way you can really tell if someone is legit is by hanging out with them in real life in the club. No other way around it.

Not all the mods here on TL are pro or semi-pro players. That doesn't change the fact TL is the premier Starcraft site or that you can learn a lot here.
