The decision was made, Colbi explained why and it seems pretty straight forward; Liquid declined the invitation because they didn't like the server situation. EG decided that TL request would cause more struggle than worth with organisation and scheduling.

We all love Liquid - that goes without saying, but everything seems understandable

Every competition has some tension between accommodating players and minimizing the difficulty of running the tournament. Running good competitions is time consuming and difficult and frustrating so it is absolutely necessary to set limits on accommodating players.

One big issue is the server that games are being played on. TL.net, via the TSL, has publicized the best known solution for handling server issues with fairness to the players: For NA vs NA, play on NA, for EU vs EU, play on EU, for KR vs KR, play on KR. For NA vs EU, and NA vs KR, switch between servers for games. For KR vs EU, play all games on NA. Despite leading by example, TL has failed to popularize this solution, as it's apparently too difficult for any other online competition to implement.

Well at some point, players have to draw the line. But it's hard to do. The options for the players are playing in a $10k league with unfair conditions or not playing at all. There is not another $10k league that provides fairer conditions and is incompatible with EG's league. So you can conclude very little from European teams' willingness to participate. But I think you might get a little bit of insight into how EG operates: is it good enough for us to pull it off? Yep, ok, all done! It's like the guy in school who is aiming to pass rather than get top marks. It's not failing, but it is what it is.

If any guys in charge are reading this now: I'm pretty damn sure you didn't intend to run a $10k team league that Liquid would choose to not participate in. But post your threads and gather your views on teamliquid.net anyway, all while falling pitifully below the standard that teamliquid.net itself sets for running online competitions. I hope the viewers can recognize the difference. I hope more players can find themselves in a position to demand the highest standards rather than saying yes to everything that meets their lowest standards.

TSL had a huge population of korean invites (so it makes sense to accommodate koreans/KR server)

EG MC has 1 team with people on the kOR server and even then it isn't their whole team. Excluding Sen EVERY OTHER PLAYER is from NA/EU which has 10x better connection than korea.

Why would the majority (VAST MAJORITY) take a hit to the benefit of TL and it's few players in korea?

A NA team hosts a tourney on the NA server where it's casters/teams are mostly located and TL asks for an unreasonable exception and then slanders EG... not your finest moment Tyler.

2v2's are gonna be funny to see, like in CSL, even some of the great teams (RIT ^_^) can fall to it. I can't wait to see what silly 2v2 strategies there'll be .

I don't know if having the tag "liquid" gives you the right to tell people how a tourney is ran.
I feel for you in particular, because you're an American, in America and you can't participate in an American league for cold hard cash. That MUST hurt, and it certainly does suck for you. I still can't agree with giving Liquid the "right of passage" simply because of the liquid title. The way I read this is that Liquid have been caught out, so they've taken their bat and ball, and gone home.

Not everything can be done on your terms. To me, I think the decision by EG polarizes the community, and is making people decide on whether they're supporting the NA scene, or if they're in it for the cashola.

In the end this is a competition. The point is to win.

Team Liquid are big names, they would bring alot of viewers into this.
Why is it unreasonable to ask for fair conditions of play?

EG said no, so Liquid said no - Tyler is obviously venting his frustrations and he has every right to. Nothing he is saying is false. Is alternating servers more fair? Yes - you don't deny this at all, what more can be said?

I think everyone can take it down a notch, let's not stir the pot over something that really doesn't have to be a huge issue. In the end, whether I agree or not, I can at least understand why both Liquid and EG's tournament made the decisions they did.

It's disappointing Liquid won't participate but I'll obviously still be watching, good luck with the league.

How come when SAG tourney announced their line up, there was not a big discussion thread on why EG was not invited. Basically we were told it did not fit their format at this time and maybe EG will get invited later. Now that liquid wasn't invited we have this big transparency thread. Sometimes it hard when your website also hosts a team to be a little unbiased or is it?

Forgot to mention - Would have loved to be able to see the inclusion of FXO here, as they're pushing incredibly hard right now. Obvious scheduling errors could be the reason.
It'd be great to see Australia be "Given the nod"

Disclaimer: Yessss, I realise that not all of FXO is Australian, however you can't fault the fact that SEA is where the money is coming from

This. Let's not make this a huge controversy. I understand both sides of the argument. I love Liquid but I think iNcontrol has a point (even if he did use the word minority instead of majority). It's frustrating that it didn't work out, but EG and TL both want to promote esports and there's no reason why they have to be enemies.

I think it's a dangerous assumption, Tyler, to say that the method TSL had is the "best known solution." In a BO3, if you play one game on NA and one game on KR, what happens when the series goes to a 3rd game? Which server do you play on? I believe the TSL's solution to this was "the players with a higher seed," which might work for the TSL's tournament format, but not so much in a clan-war type scenario.

How do you determine 'seeding' in this case? The team with the better record? That seems way too situational to be effective, it's like favoring the team that's already favored, in essence. In all honesty, there is no best solution for this problem until Blizzard implements LAN latency/cross-server play. I will add however, that Sen plays from Taiwan and has never once complained about lag. He played almost all the GCPL matches, NASL, FXOpen tournaments, etc. He doesn't complain about the lag, he plays his game and performs well most of the time. He also plays regularly on the NA ladder.

Maybe, players in Korea should practice on the NA server to get used to the conditions of playing there if they know they will be playing in tournaments on the NA server.

Ultimately, there is no best solution, as I said. There has to be some give. If Liquid is really the only team that would be adversely affected by this rule, then it would be a bit unfair to inconvenience 7 teams to appease 1 team. If Liquid couldn't bend to the requirements, it isn't really fair to turn around and blame the organizers.
