I was reading the Barcelona vs Real Madrid thread (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=171890) and noticed alot of hate against Real Madrid. I mean the two teams are rivals but i never seen such strong hate before, and its not like you see man united fans hating on arsenal afaik. I'm not really involved in Primera Division anymore than watching the highlights of the matches, but i do know quite a bit about RM:
1. They are the richest club in the world (ironically) as far as the public is concerned 2. They play very defensive football, which alot of people may argue that it is not the true way of football (it is quite boring). 3. Considered to be overrated. 4. Have the most Champions League wins Could one of these points be why people hate RM so much?

But could it be that people hate RM because there is something wrong with the whole club or just because of Ronaldo? I mainly watch Premier League and Ronaldo used to play for Man United.
A bit about Ronaldo during the time he was in Man United:
a) Scored more goals in a season than his fellow strikers (he was right wing in Man United, I think he changed to striker in RM)
b) Often falls over, suspicions arouse as to whether he was pushed over or just dived
c) RM offered a ridiculously high amount of money (highest in the world up to now, 80 million pounds i think, 2nd highest is 31 million pounds) to buy him (some might argue that that money is better spent elsewhere)
d) Considered to be the "one-man" in the one-man team (which is not the true way of soccer, and that only happens when you play fifa)
e) Incident occured in world cup 2006 where Ronaldo seemingly indirectly provoked Rooney into a red card, and then winking to his teammates,(something suspicious going on)
Could one of these points be why people hate Ronaldo so much?

I don't like Real Madrid because they literally 'buy' a team. They buy great players and never use them again (Van der Vaart, Robben, Sneijder), all topplayers on their clubs right now, but they were not good enough for RM it seemed. I also don't like Ronaldo, crappy crybaby.

Yes, this, so much this
I despise Real Madrid, they have literally NO team-spirit at all, they just go around and buy the (supposedly) "best" players around and 50% of them end up becoming crap because there is no team. I can't even enumerate how many extraordinary players never got to play because RM didn't even bother giving them some time to work theirselves into the team after 1-2 bad games. They just go and buy new guys.
Barcelona on the other hand is the exact opposite, they "create" good players and don't just "buy" them. The "real" Ronaldo got big with Barcelona, Ronaldinho got big with Barcelona, Figo got big with Barcelona, now Messi got big with Barcelona. The only player I could think of who grew inside of RM was Raul, the rest of the players WERE good when RM bought them but got worse afterwards (Zidane, Figo, Beckham...just the most famous ones).
EDIT: the reason ppl hate "fake" Ronaldo has nothing to do with that, I believe, he is just an incredibly arrogant, pretentious smug.
I actually like the counter attack type of football they play, but the "defense" they play consists of intimidation and dirty football. Pepe just mugs people and hopes that the ref does not see it and Ronaldo is just a terrible arrogant person, as illustrated by his cheap shot on FC Barcelona's coach (I have never seen such a thing before). I'm not saying that Real Madrid has always been an unclassy bunch of cheap players, but the current squad is a joke of a football club. They will only win against clubs they can intimidate or clubs that have a poor quality midfield that can't get back on the counter.
#Stoned Why are you posting handegg video with terrible teenage music in a football thread about Real Madrid and C. Ronaldo?
I think most people hate Read Madrid is because they cheer for Barcelona instead. Most people think Barcelona plays some of the best football and Real Madrid is just their biggest rivals. Therefore it's natural to dislike them. In my view many young people tend to like Real Madrid and older like Barcelona.
C. Ronaldo is a lady boy who dives too much. He was stupid in the beginning of his career were he dove 24/7. But he is a good player. -.-
I don't like neither Barcelona or Real Madrid to be honest. But I dislike Real Madrid while I have nothing towards Barca. Reason why I don't like Real is because of the way they are corrupting the sport. The salaries that they're paying, could've been invested in their youth academy and by now, it would've payed off far greater. Instead, they try to integrate big star names in their team by buying them from elsewhere. They won't develop a player, but they'll rather use it and then throw it away. Royston Drenthe I believe is a prime example of that. Hunterlaar as well. Barca on the other had, invests a lot of their money into their youngsters. People like Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol and Busquets would've never developed into the players they are now, if Barca just did what Real does. As for Ronaldo, I just don't like his lack of "cojones" and that's all. He always tries to outsmart the rules, by faking stuff or by acting like an idiot. IMO, in that last "El Classico", Ronaldo and Carvalho should've been sent off way before the classical idiot Sergio Ramos got sent off.
Personally I have a huge problem with Ronaldo with his arrogant attitude, crying, faking stuff constantly. No matter how good he is I just can't enjoy his play as long has he continues with this behavior. However he was awesome to watch in Man United together with Rooney, but now I really couldn't care less about him. Fed up with his crap.
It's also hard not to like Barca's style of play when they are playing at full capacity. I think that's why many tend to cheer for Barca in El Clasico.
Don't turn this into soccer vs football, and dont feed the trolls when they do appear. Jesus, you guys are like internet kindergarteners. I feel like I need to hold your hands when we go over a bridge.
After Carlos left there hasn't been a good player in Real Madrid. All egoistic & overrated crap.
Ronaldo is the most overrated thing ever, had one good lucky season. Acts/looks like a baby. Dives more than anyone and doesn't know shit about teamwork or giving 110% on the field. Didn't like him in ManU, didn't really care when he went to Real Madrid. People say he has great technique, Quaresma taught him everything & is 1000x more baller anyways.
Its true maybe that Real Madrid is buying more players right now, but come on, corrupting the sport? because of the salaries or high prices of the players?
Do you know how much did Ibrahimovich cost? maybe more than Cristiano Ronaldo.
Was Villa Free?
How Much does Messi win?
That Barca doesnt trash players? what about Rivaldo? Ronaldinho? and many more, barca has always been the specialist in getting rid of their top players the second they dont like them..
And we dont have many players from here, but you are all saying you cant even think of one good player that we have right now from our football school, really? Maybe the best GK in the world and our captain?
And btw, that someone mentioned it, drenthe didnt do shit last year. And Ronaldo did go big with barcelona, then got injured, didnt do much in Inter, and got big again in Real Madrid.
Obviously I am a Madrid supporter, and I totally accept that we got totally owned yesterday, just wanted to point out a few things.
And as for C. Ronaldo, he is a little cry baby, no point denying that, and me and all my friends are quite tired of it
How can a team be considered overrated and then say they have the most Champions League wins? Can you not spot the obvious fail in the statement? I do agree that the RM we once knew and loved is pretty much gone : /
It's been said already that RM is a 'buy' team (but what team isn't?) and it's enough a reason for me to hate them (actually I hate all teams). I feel no connection to a bunch of random players from all over the world being brought together by some (big) cash. Only the national teams are worth following.
Historically , i am pretty sure Real Madrid is hated because the amount of help King of Spain ( or was it Dictator Franco) has given them. Both because political reasons ( Spain vs Catalan) as well as because they are the king's fav team.
Nowadays i think it's because they keep reshuffling their team with increasingly more expensive players each time. It is probably also the arrogant way in which they do their transfers although Barcelona is not excused on this matter as well.
One thing I don't like about Real Madrid is them kicking succesful managers. I don't understand them kicking managers who just won the Champions League or even claimed the title against all odds like Capello. It also bewilders me how they can gain crazy loans based on potential future revenue in which case they fail to pay, they will probably get bailed out again as they have so many times in the past :S
rofl Real corrupting the sport? They do the same thing every other rich club in the entire world does. Anyone who'd say that about Real truly pays no attention to the sport.
Same thing with Ronaldo. He's a cunt, but DID YOU EVEN WATCH THE GAME? Both teams do the same shit. Barca were even diving & appealing for cards when they're already 4-0 up.
No one can come up with a logical reason to hate Real, at least not more than Barca, unless you're actually from Barcelona and support the club.
The hate for real madrid comes from the way they approach football. Football should be blood, sweat and tears, at least from the romantic point of view. It is about fighting for each other and running your lungs out. It is about hard work and getting the loan for it. A metaphor of life, that at least in my eyes made it so popular (yes, pathetic). It's why teams like Nürnberg, Newcastle, Gijon, Chievo have Fans. No glamour or titles at the end of the road. Just another avoided or hit relegation.
Nothing of what Real Madrid stands for, at least for me. Real Madrid stands for buying the best players instead of educating them. It stands for spending money of the city of Madrid and the state of Spain instead of their own (financial background has been very suspicious for at least 20 years now). Thats why I don't like Real Madrid. Call it envy, for me this club just is not what football should be.
Why I don't like Ronaldo is because he is like a 12 year old girl stealing mama's makeup to make herself pretty. I think that guy needs to grow up and didn't get the chance to. Don't get me wrong, he is an awesome football player, although (maybe because) his useless stepover actions on the outer wing. Speed, shooting technique, ball control, striking, crossing, display of the court, everything fantastic. But as a person, he just seems like a cock (the bird of course) dancing around trying to hide his doubts (whatever they are) behind a fassade of glamour. Which is childish. He behaves like some white guys wanting to be the cool gangster rapper bad guy in a german high school. But aswell as them it just doesnt suit him other than makes him laughable. Which is a shame for such a great football player and person of media interest. I don't blame him for getting thrown so much money at his doorstep in the ends of his youth so that he didn't get a chance to develope dignity, still it stands disturbing.

Also Ronaldo is an arrogant dick.
Man United? I believe they started the trend of raising young players. Yeah they do buy players every now and again, but RM takes it to the extreme (like Chelsea during Mourinho's reign).
And C. Ronaldo, most expensive diver ever since he left Man U.

Honestly, you have no clue what you are talking about if you say Real Madrid is spending the money of Madrid or Spain, you can say all the bad things about their players or how they play you want, but saying Real Madrid is not one of the best clubs in the world making money, if not the best one, is beeing preety clueless

Never said they don't have a fantastic marketing departement. Buying players like Ronaldo or Beckham and refund only on jerseys is great, definetily. I guess at the moment they are the most expensive football brand in the world (always struggling for first with Manchester United). But it's not their money they spend. City of Madrid gave them money officially or behind the back (selling and reselling training grounds e.g.), as well as the state. The money they spend in the galacticos era was not the money of the club, but of estate lion Perez. And they hardly made any profit during that era, he dumped 300 million euros in the club. Which may be legit in Spain, England or Italy, but in countries with real licensing based on a clubs economical performance like France or Germany, the club would have been degraded and delicensed a long time ago.
You should try to dig in the numbers of economic performance of the top clubs in Europe. The only one not sinking deep in the reds and being economical swift at the moment is Bayern Munich (and, this be said, I hate them more than any other club in the world).
I have nothing against Real Madrid the club. Their successful marketing is overall a positive for the sport. What I dislike is most Real Madrid fans. I can respect the ones with a clue but they're severely outnumbered by confrontational numbnuts obsessed with "best". Fanboys comes with the territory of having the highest popularity, if not Real Madrid it'll be another club that's the most popular.
they got a recalifications (spelling? dont even know if that is the word in English to be honest) on the terrains that they had for training in one of the best zones in Madrid and then sold it, nothing false about that, bot not anything illegal, dodgy, nor does that money come from public fonds in any way, that is private.
Recently they had a loan from a bank, Caja Madrid, but that is nothing public or of the state, is just a Bank loaning money, and they more than prooved exactly how they would pay it.
i dont personally have anything against real madrid. i really loved the old madrid with figo, zidane, carlos, (the real) ronaldo etc they were so good at football - better than the current barca even. but man its easy to hate c. ronaldo. spastic idiot who has too much talent than he knows what to do with. the way he throws arrogant tantrums/strops is another of his features which make him a complete joke. there are other things too. he does nothing in big games yet still has the audacity to announce that hes gonna score hat-tricks before barca games
tldr: madrid are fine ronaldo is a massive idiot who has nothing going for him besides talent

They have two loans running for each 75 million euros, that's normal. But it's only for players from the mid 00s, the players of the era before were bought by Perez privately, I don't know if that would be even legal in Germany. Mendoza and Sanz almost ruined the club, if Perez wouldn't have pumped private money in, it would have run bankrupt. The salvage of the training ground went to EU monopoly commission and was dropped due to lack of clearance without ambiguity, not repelled as far as I can remember. It was sports ground and sold as business ground with Spanish state subventions. Funny enough, you can't find anything about that on english wikipedia, it's lined out on the german one. I'm at work at the moment, if I find time I can translate it later. I don't want to rant on Real or anything, just line out facts. Bottom line is, what I said, slightly suspicious financial background. It's hard to compare to other circumstances of course, but if Real was not in Madrid, who knows how that story would have ended. It ended very badly for other ancient clubs in other countries, let's say it that way.
It's quite what they are argueing about at the moment in UEFA when it comes to financial fair play policies.

Well the past doesn't predict the future. So i CAN consider a team to be overrated AND say they have the most Champions League wins. Because a club with a good history record can be shitty in its current form (e.g Liverpool)
A few years ago, a wise old man told me this:
"Chelsea may have no history but Liverpool's got no future"
And lo and behold, Liverpool crawling away from relegation zone while Chelsea is fighting for 1st place.
think liverpool is back on top in a couple of years, they aint gonna "take a leeds".
I also loved R.Madrid when Zidane was there, havent followed primera division after he and Ronaldhinio left, but I like R.Madrid better then Barcelona. Barcelona plays so booring football imo, passing the ball 70% of the time, so booring to watch endless passes. The goals yesterday was nice, but I rather watch R.Madrid over Barcelona, and im awere of that Barca propably is the best team in the world atm.
Don't watch any r.madrid ether, Premier Leauge ftw! I also like Ronaldo over Messi, propably because im a United fan.
and to the OP, I think Rangers - Celtic is the most rivaly teams in the world, they got religion on top of football

I agree with your post, but why does someone have to be from Barcelona to be passionate about supporting the club and hating rivals?
Both Messi and Ronaldo embarrassed themselves with 2 episodes
The difference is that Messi still played a immense game, he was all over the pitch and that will cloud over his little play acting, his 2 killer passes to Villa are world class.
Ronaldo however does not have a moment like that, he is notorious even from his time in United for simply dissapearing in big games. When people talk Ronaldo, the most noteworthy thing is that he gave a slight push to Guardiola.
Then you see Pepe beat up a guy last season, Ramos being a total douche and Ronaldo and his pissing and moaning, its very difficult to like a club like Madrid, because they go out of their way to be dirty. Same as Inter Milan, compared to the more historically flashy Ac Milan side.
Barcelona crushed RM but i believe RM will win the championship because Mourinho is that good!
And btw now that mourinho is there they have team spirit and won't buy 10 players per year because he doesn't need them! they will just buy 1, 2 or 3 players per year just to tune some stuff!
i like both teams tho!
And C.Ronaldo might be a prick, smug etc.. but doesn't he play really good? hehe

i also agree with this post. i remember the days when RM had zidane, ronaldo (from brazil), beckham, carlos....etc. they did terrific no doubt as they had such a "name-built" team so to say, but they really did not exceed any expectations. they did not win as much as anyone really expected them too. i'm not saying they never won, im just saying the "dream-team" never met the bar it had set.
many of the players who play/played for real madrid were also developed in other clubs and then transfered to real madrid. kaka should never have left milan in my opinion, and this may be my manchester united bias but now christiano ronaldo has been transfered to RM at a "record fee". sure hes a jerk, but hes such a good player. its almost like his ego matches his skill. many hate him because he is a douche, but people are always thinking of ways to hate others. give the guy a break. when you play at such a competitive level, sometimes its hard not to be arrogant and whiny.
but yeah overall, i dont really think anyone "hates" RM. i think its more of that they create hype they do not meet quite a bit, and just loves buying players instead of creating them a lot of the time.
Eh, I came here just cuz I saw Ronaldo in the header...
Don't care much about RM, it's kind of hard to hate teams when you don't watch a majority of the games. I hate Ronaldo because he embodies everything shitty stereotype that plagues soccer: terrible fucking diver, cry baby, primadonna, effeminate.
Such a shame because the dude is one really talented individual. But because of that shit, I've gone from liking him to just hoping that he loses whenever he steps on the field.
