However, I have lost most of my "favored" matches, and I was wondering if you have to win those "favored" matches to become silver or gold. Also, I heard from somewhere that you have to lose certain matches to rank up too. Thanks in advance. Any help would be appreciated about this ![]() In you'r case loosing would do nothing. Thats for people that are going like 20 - 0, you just need to keep beating people better than you while still beating people lower and the same rank. Looks like you're loosing to people you're favored against so you negate the fact that you beat a higher rank.

I'm in the same boat and it feels pretty frustrating because I was terrible when I started and I improved very quickly to the point where bronze players just aren't a challenge at all anymore. I've gone something crazy like 45-8 and out of those 8 losses, like 4 were disconnects. Based on the ladder analysis, I think the algorithm has an easier time handling slow and steady skill improvements than very sharp ones. Anyway, read those threads and it should explain it.

You will lose when you start playing opponents who are better than you, which the system will start doing when you win enough games. Throwing games to players who you would normally beat will not help you rank up.

You have the opportunity to jump from bronze to gold or even platinum. The system basically moves you against harder and harder opponents until it finds a range in which you are equal skill level.. losing a bunch of games on purpose may cause it to decide that you belong in silver instead of gold or higher (which it could have been leaning towards.) Yes losing some games may help you move up faster, but it wont help you move to where you belong. You WILL eventually be put into matches against higher players while in bronze, that will cause your win rate to stabilize at 50-ish%. If these matches are against mostly platinum or high level gold, it may decide that you belong in low level platinum or high level gold. By losing the games in which youre TRYING to win, it helps the system more accurately determine that that is where you belong at that point in time. Thats my take after reading a lot of peoples very educated and researched guesses into how the system works. Theres a lot of math work that has been done in the process of their research that seems to reasonably define what is going on. Being promoted after losing doesnt mean the system is broken, it means that that particular match has allowed the system to determine your current state of skill.
