Focus Fire Overkill?

This is something that I've been wondering for quite some time. I know that A-move has no overkill and siege tanks also do not overkill but what if say there are 6 stalkers vs 3 marines (for the sake of demonstration). If you move in with the 6 stalkers so that they're all in range, then focus down the marines individually do you end up wasting shots? Because the stalkers do 10 damage each and each marine has 45 health so will that 1 extra shot end up getting wasted or will it hit a marine you didn't target?

The main reason I ask is because if there IS overkill, you have to think carefully about the size of your control groups so that when the battle starts and you start focusing down your opponent's army you don't end up wasting alot of shots. If there is NO overkill then having a huge control group isnt a problem as your shots won't be wasted.

Projectiles (stalker shots, marauder shots, etc) will have overkill, attacks like the siege tank, which has no projectile, will not (something I disagree with, but w/e).

The way I understand it, instant projectiles like marines or tanks will not have overkill. I think that stalkers still will have overkill.

It's because units don't communicate well with eachother. Obviously, instant attacks don't overkill because units won't fire at dead units; they're not THAT stupid ^_^

Why can't they communicate well enough to successfully focus-fire without wasting shots? Because a strange type of radiation blocks small-scale communication. That's the Lore explanation, anyways.

yeah i guess i get how it works, but its weird to think that a terran using marines can focus fire stalkers at will while a toss user would have to think twice due to overkills.

I've been thinking about how I could use the instant-shot not overkilling thing to my advantage.

But is there any unit besides the marine, siege tank, and thor, that doesn't use a projectile?

Immortal is the only other one I can think of.
