It's a lot of fun, as you can probably imagine. You can get to finally write that thing on a board that we all need to know and have it shown on stream. And if you're really lucky, you'll get a polite hello from Tastosis as they filter from the room to get picked up by their respective shuttle/dropship and flown to a secret afterparty somewhere in the Seoul high society.
So if you can find a reasonable way to bring yourself to Korea, I'd certainly recommend it! Seoul is a wonderful place in many other ways too, definitely worth a visit in its own right.
Here's what you need to do:
1) Get tickets. You'll need to go here:
http://www.ticketlink.co.kr/global/en/esports
When I visited for ASL7, tickets sales opened about two weeks before each event. Tickets are 5,000 KRW (about $4,2). You will be asked to book a specific seat or seats for the event so buy early if you want a good spot.
Ticketlink collaborates with a payment service called Payco. I had to try a few times but in the end I was able to pay through Payco with my Visa card.
2) Get to the event
Until further notice, ASL events all take place at freeCup Studios, which is located at 626 Teheran-ro in the Gangnam area of Seoul. To get there:
- Go to Seoul
- In the airport, I recommend that you get a T Money card. If you're in Seoul for 3 or 4 days, I would recommend putting about 30,000 won on the card. That should cover all your transportation including to and from the airport. You can buy one in any convenience store in the airport.
Also consider renting a wifi hotspot so you have internet access at all times.
- Take subway line 2 (the green one that goes in a circle) to Samseong station.
- Take exit 1 and keep walking in the direction you came out (east, towards the bridge over the creek). Many street names in Seoul incorporate lots of crisscrossing alleys and lanes, which can be confusing, but freeCup Studios is actually located on the main Teheran-ro. It's the on your right, a 5-minute walk from the subway station, just before the second last crossroad before the creek. There's a couple of places on the alley parallel to the main Teheran-ro where you can get a bite to eat before the event.
Also get some water before you enter, if you can. Nothing is sold at the studio.

The freeCup studio is on the second floor. Elevators are on the right.
3) At the event.
I don't believe I needed to show my ticket at the event, just my passport.
The staff at the entrance will give you a board to write stuff on if you like, and lend you a marker. They will also give you a radio with which you can catch the English cast during the event. When I was there, the English cast was on channel 29. They will require you to deposit something to get the radio. I deposited my passport.
Consider bringing your own headphones, as the ones provided were not good.
For unknown reasons, the English translation of the pre-game interview was not broadcast, so if you want to understand it, you'd have to go online and watch the stream. Very postmodern.
That should be all. If I've forgotten something, please remind me and I'll edit.
