Great event! We always talk about starleagues, star players and perhaps blizzard getting a new update rolling, but in reality i feel events like this contribute in no small margin to keep our game alive and grow interest.
I take my hat off, Jealous, Tim and Sugo! Awesome work!
Big thanks to esports.fund and all others who donated!
And last but not least to all players.
Im hoping for NYC Lan 2020.

Official Announcement #11: "Thank You"s + Feedback Requests!

Hello everyone!

I have so many people to thank, that to address every person individually would take up multiple screens of text. So, I would like to say thank you to everyone!

Thank you to my co-administrators and those that helped us along the way - without you, this event would not have been possible!

Thank you to the donors and sponsors! You helped make this event incredibly hype, you chose to provide us with what turned out to be much-needed and much-appreciated expense coverage, and you helped us draw people from hundreds of miles away to Flushing - all for a LAN we didn't expect to break $160 or 16 participants. Your support made this event bigger and better than we could have imagined.

Thank you to the owners, managers, and staff of the venue! Without them constantly taking the time to help us set up, answer questions, and deal with me coming there multiple times and testing multiple computers on their admin accounts, there would be no tournament, period. They gave us a great discount and refund policy (the latter of which they did of their own volition), allowed us to reserve 80% of the venue, and were willing to work with us when unexpected problems arose. The snacks and beverages were key.

Thank you to all of the photographers and videographers at the event! I expected that I would have more time to walk around and take photos, but I ended up taking only ONE at the very end of the tournament. Your presence was greatly appreciated, as was your commitment to bringing expensive gear to the venue.

Thank you to the tournament entrants, their supporters/cheerleaders/friends, and all attendees! If we ran this tournament and only Tim, SuGo, and myself showed up - we'd still have fun, but it would obviously not be even close to the fun and hype we experienced on game day. It was a pleasure to meet all of you and without each and every one of you taking the time to attend this event, it wouldn't even be worth talking about. We hope to see you again soon!

Thank you to all of the stream viewers! You demonstrated that the interest in foreign LAN BW is not limited to one's local scene. You came and supported your favorite players, asked for pictures of their butt, talked smack, added valuable commentary during the games, donated to the next tour, and overall your presence and excitement is deeply appreciated. We hope you will tune in for the next one!

Thank you to the Lucia Pizza and Picnic Garden! People brought their appetites and the food you provided was delicious. Special shout-out to Picnic Garden for running late for us and staying in contact with us as our reservation time was pushed later, and later, and later.

Thank you to TeamLiquid and its staff for helping me with behind-the-scenes stuff and allowing me to submit this event to the calendar! The visibility of this event's stream made the stream itself lively and fun.

Thank you to everyone in this thread who provided us with encouragement and feedback and kept the topic alive - the exposure as a result of this thread's activity undoubtedly helped keep the excitement levels high and allowed more people to find out about the event and attend.

Thank you everyone!

---

Now, let's talk about the future.

First and foremost, we would like to get feedback from our attendees and our stream viewers. We are committed to making the next event better for everyone involved, and we have learned a lot as a result of running this first tournament. However, your feedback will help us target specific problems we may have missed and will tell us where we should be directing our future attention and efforts. Thus, we hope that you will help us do a better job next time by filling out the appropriate questionnaires:

>>> NYC LAN #1 Attendee Feedback <<<

>>> NYC LAN #1 Viewer Feedback <<<

We are looking forward to hearing your feedback and suggestions! Thank you.

VODs from the event will be exported to YouTube over the next couple days in segments. In the meantime, you can take a look at the Twitch VOD:

Full Tournament Twitch VOD

Now, as for the next tournament... Considering the feedback we've already received and the interest that has been expressed in having a future event, it'd be stupid not to run another one. We do not have any specific information at this time because we want to make sure we gather feedback and incorporate it into our planning. We're hoping that this will satisfy you for now: we are running another NYC BW LAN tournament, in October of 2019

Now I wish I didn't fly out of NYC early in the morning and missed out on the Korean BBQ.

It was great to see some of the members of the LMaster's discord and play in an offline tournament. Don't know if I can make it to the next one, but I'll definitely show up again in later editions. Hopefully this will get the community to run more LANs all over the world.

Edit: in the survey, for when would the earliest you would arrive, I'm assuming 12am is supposed to be 12pm.

Oops >_> Thanks! EDIT: Ok if I fix it, it just adds 12 PM as a new option, so 12 AM stays but I think everyone gets what it means haha.

I'd hav a shot if it wasn't my first time ever seeing remastered, and I hadn't showed up so late that I had zero time to warm up or adjust settings lol. Not used to getting around it big cities, everything takes forever....

Things like this are the very nature of a LAN though. Everyone’s settings are not the same as they’re used to, arm to chair ratios are off, room temperature drastically different, etc. Lots of variables in play for everyone and that is why some people can just be better in this type of play... anyways, think of the people who were admins and played; lack of time to set up and helping people in between, no warm up, etc. So I can assure you that it wasn’t just you

It’s the beauty of a LAN though. I rather take losses not playing optimally and meet some new people and have a good time.

Hi, Jealous.

I'd like to kindly suggest that you host the next NYC LAN at least a few months after the LA LAN (assuming it gets organized). I feel like if these events happen too often, they won't get nearly the same level of hype and support you got this time around. Also, having two back-to-back LANs means that donations to the prize pools will be split between the two. In other words, the LANs would be competing with one another for support. On top of that, I wouldn't want you to burn out from all the work you're doing. You can do whatever you like, of course. I just wanted to share my thoughts.

That SKT1 jersey you were wearing was ridiculously cool, by the way. Pretty appropriate, considering that Bisu's about to come back and make up for lost time.

No, we are not going to plan around a hypothetical LAN that has no set date, venue, etc. I don't think it is a coincidence that within a few weeks of us announcing the first LAN, discussions of other LANs around the USA started popping up. It is not our responsibility to keep track of other events and cede entire months just because some LAN is happening thousands of miles away and thus has a significant barrier of entry for people in the greater NYC area. We don't have concrete expectations for prize pool sustainability - it's natural that the first big event in NYC in nearly 10 years will draw a lot of attention, perhaps more than consequent ones. That is not a concern for us. We're going to keep doing what we're doing while seeking to improve the administrative elements with each iteration. The rest is out of our hands more or less. At the end of the day, more LANs is always good, and making them more spread out than the frequency at which people are willing to run them doesn't make sense to me.

The amount of work that we have to do is spread out over the course of multiple months, so it's not that taxing - thanks in large part to the expense coverage we have received (I haven't done the final calculations but I believe expenses were almost entirely covered).

I'll be wearing a different T1 shirt at the next one Bisu hype.

Gotta dig out my vintage TL shirt and WeMadeFox shirt. Oh, and Hwaseung Oz jacket.

As a person who is interested in travel, Brood War, and meeting friends, I vote for sensibly taking note of other LAN events. It's not out of the question that I would fly to LA if Xeris, shindigs, GhostClaw, etc. show up.

Think of it like weddings. You're gonna plan your wedding for whenever you want it. But check in with your mutual friends to make sure you don't overlap on dates. I don't know if this analogy helps but it seems like all of us are 28-33 and that's also prime wedding season.

We're absolutely not going to overlap with any dates that are announced and set in stone, that much is obvious. What Shalashaska was asking us to do is delay it by months to accommodate for a LAN that hasn't even been organized, scheduled, or announced yet. That is overkill and out of the question. If we announce our date first, wouldn't they be the ones who should be accommodating us and be told to delay their LAN? The rate at which things are going now, this seems to be the likely scenario.

I have kept tabs on the LA LAN thread of course, and none of the dates that are in afreeca's poll are ones we are considering, so we're all clear on that front.

EDIT: You can see my post in the LA thread for reference:
