Card Cup #2 is using a Race Wars format. All games played will be non mirror matchups. 9 players (3 of each race) on separate Protoss, Terran and Zerg teams. Its a 7 week format. Each week you will play a Best of 5 vs someone. There will be 1 week where you sit out. Over the course of the tournament you will play once vs each player on the other 2 teams. During the week, you arrange a time to play with your opponent whenever it is convenient for you both. After you play, 1 of you (agree between yourselves who) uploads the replays and posts them in this thread. You can upload the replays here: http://bwreplays.com/ By the way you can upload replays to broodwarmaps.net if that is a convenient method for you (or anywhere else). And you can post the replays in this thread with the template below. (make sure the links to replays are in spoiler tags, dont give away the results) Please be sure to save the replays and upload them. Copy/Paste Replay and Results Template: + Show Spoiler +

Depending on the outcome from this phase, it might be fun to do a mini semifinal and final between the top 4 players afterwards. Otherwise it might just be a Win for 1 Team or a Draw of some sort.
I think the format is interesting because theres no early knockouts and you play every other player. Test your skill in a series of head to heads vs 6 opponents. Each match is like a snapshot to see who is the best player between the two of you in that matchup at that moment. And you get to represent your race as a fun bonus. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I designed the format last year, hopefully its correct. The idea is that no player has 3 of the same matchup in a row, and that the week where 3 players have to sit out comes in the middle of the tournament.
If nothing else, atleast this thread details a tournament format that someone might like.

If you would like to cast any games let me know. Edit: All the player slots are full, so the tournament will start on Monday the 21st of May. If you and your opponent are able and willing could you please play on 1.16.1 for backwards compatibility of replays. (Using SC116 rather than SC ActiBlizz would be beneficial for me).
Be sure to grab Clay Fields version 1.1 in the Summer Update thread above. Edit: Crown And Sceptre version 1.0 was the latest version and was used in this tournament but... Crown And Sceptre version 1.1 was released at the end of this tournament: www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/535677-map-4crown-and-sceptre-summer-update
May I play as terran? I really would like to play some tvz, since I have no luck in finding any other race than protoss on ladder, so this my last opportunity. I am not good player though.
One day Star Tale will have its own pack of cards. Ofcourse the designs would be in the public domain so if you wanted you could download and print them yourself or whatever. The design is similar to the Star Tale Magic System: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/517382-star-tale#20 Ive actually made 3 mock up decks previously for this and they have been used instead of regular playing cards.
I'd love to participate, assuming there's need for a protoss! I'm a crappy 1.6k MMR player, though, so I'd much rather give the spot to someone of higher level. So please only add me last second, and only if there's no one else who can/wants to play (even if they're lower level than me)
@Incomplete..ReV Ok cool, we shall see if others sign up first. @iRk-arCNeON Excellent, Ive put you in a Protoss Slot. You are Player A. Looks like you will be getting 2 PvTs in the first 2 weeks, then a PvZ in week 3.
I appreciate the invite to be the 3rd Protoss player but I haven't played since October of last year. I don't feel I would provide very decent games. Ask TT1 I think he'd be a good fit. =)
Good luck with your tournament and good luck to all participants!
@iopq I dont want to pressure people to have to play more than 1 Best of 5 each week, sorry about that, but thanks for considering.
Cheers Psyonic_Reaver
@Qikz lol dont worry, everyone has to play everyone else eventually (of the other races). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Faust is taking the 3rd Zerg Slot. You are Player I. Congratulations, you get the week off! (1 player sits out each week).
Oya187 posted first so the final Protoss Slot goes to Oya (you can understand why I didnt trust a 1 post newly made account). Sorry Favorit you just missed out, there are no more Protoss Slots. Sorry about that.
Oya you are Player C. So your first round match will be a PvT.
@Arcneon Week 1 will start on Monday if we get the final Terran player so thats fine.
Cryoc is taking the 3rd Terran Slot. You are Player F. So your first round match will be a TvP (against Oya).
Excellent, that is all the player slots filled, thanks guys.
@RedW4rr10r I dont use Discord. Feel free to make a chat room. Personally I will just be monitoring this thread and PMs but for you players it might be handy. I think it will be ok without but up to you.
So, we can start Week 1 on Monday the 21st of May. (if you want to get ahead and play your first round match this weekend thats fine by me).
Week 1 Lineup
iRk-arCNeON vs Qikz radley vs CadenZie RedW4rr10r vs EndingLife Oya187 vs Cryoc
SCC-Faust has this week off. (ah you get extra practice time lol)
Please go ahead and arrange a time to play vs your opponent whenever its convenient for you. The teamliquid account names are the same as above except for: CadenZie tl account name = CadenZa Arcneon tl account name = iG.Arcneon
Save and upload the replays. (there is a copy/paste template in the OP that you can use if you want). I wont say the loser should always upload or the winner should always upload as we want to avoid spoilers, flip a coin or something.
Finally, if you and your opponent are able and willing could you please play on 1.16.1 for backwards compatibility of replays. That would really help me. But no worries if not.
Im really happy you guys are up for this, super pumped with this player pool. Should be fun, Good Luck!
I guess its now time to start looking for Casters. Like I say Herbmon and Ninazerg melted faces last time. If either of you two would like to cast some games that would be great. There are lots of fantastic casters out there, you know who you are. I know most of you are already busy with other tournaments and other projects etc, some are less active at the moment, so I wont be asking anyone to cast every single game or anything like that.
The idea is that it is nice and informal. As replays start coming in, if you are a caster and feel like grabbing a handful and making a youtube vod, that would be amazing. Or if there is a particular matchup that catches your fancy etc you can just do a 1 off if you feel like it. Ill leave it at that
Jukado I'm just curious why do you worry about backwards compatibility of replays? Most people are playing on remastered or at least freeware version having same patch/engine. And those who don't can install it anyway.
On May 19 2018 09:13 -Debaser- wrote: Qikz fighting! I think he has a great chance to go undefeated in this tournament. I can only see arcneon giving him any trouble.
@RAPiDCasting Wow, thankyou for the offer! I wonder if timezones will make it unlikely for you to cross paths with the players much, but I guess casting from replays is always a backup option (no lag then too).
@radley Some people cant play that version because you need a powerful modern computer to run it which some people cant afford or dont own for other reasons. They might not want to install the blizzard launcher either which is fair enough in my opinion. I saw that some people were having problems getting it to work on different operating systems, not sure if that was solved for everyone.
Also 116 works with lots of cool 3rd party support programs. Theres a bunch of other reasons some people might have too. So I think it would be good to include them if we can. But like I say its not a problem, feel free to use your preferred version. But if you are able to and its not too much hassle to use 116 instead, Id appreciate it.

Maybe I haven't put in quite enough effort into it, but I never quite got the mouse speed in RM to feel like it did in 1.16. Since basically no one plays 1.16, I had to get used to settings that were "close enough."
When I tried 1.16 a few days ago for a bot test, I was somewhat taken aback at how different the mouse felt now that I had gotten used to RM. I think that if I were to play in a tournament now, I wouldn't feel comfortable on 1.16, but again this may be just me. However, I agree that I don't see much sense in catering to ... who exactly? The few users remaining on ICCup with outdated PCs at the potential expense of the players?
Maybe I'm off base because I didn't set my mouse up properly, and you did say that people can play on whatever platform is comfortable, I just think that on a theoretical level it's time to say good bye to 1.16 in the competitive scene, perhaps unfortunately.
@Jealous, thats a really good point about the mouse settings potentially feeling different enough to cause discomfort for the players if they switch between the versions. (Some might argue its actually another reason why 116 should infact still be the 'go to' competitive platform but you make a good point). So yeah, if you dont want to play on 116 that is absolutely fine.

Replays might work but it's more about finding time and co-ordinating things. I hope things work out and I'll try to keep up with checking in.
And thanks to whoever gifted me TL+ and for the gorgeous lyrics with it.

@radley and Cadenzie: Did you guys manage to meet up and play yet? @Cryoc: Has Oya replied yet?

We are supposed to play with CadenZie after Have At You. I am not sure if she meant watching whole cast or just playing in it though. Secondary scheduled date is tomorrow 17 CEST. I hope it's not a problem for you and yet again, my apologise for a delay.
@radley: Not a problem at all. Cadenzie has week 2 off anyway so it wont be too busy for her to catch back up atleast. Actually Ive changed my mind. We now have medium-serious beef. You'll probably have to bake me a cake or send me flowers to mend this mortal wound. Ill PM you the address.
@jukado Mod edit: Spoiler contains Week 1 results. + Show Spoiler +
When you post the results, don't say Game 4 and Game 5 are "not needed". That gives away who wins after early games are played. You need to have links to dummy replays or something there (use a variety, otherwise people will already have the URL).
Ah brilliant thanks Cryoc, you went all out and put in the pictures and big coloured text and bold title too, nice! Ive edited that into my earlier post above (just because it is already there so it will be nice and neat). But yeah if you guys want to post your own results like that for week 2 and going forwards that would be ideal.
radley and Cadenzie have also played their week 1 games. The results have been edited into my earlier post above. So that is all the games for week 1 completed now.
Hi Radivel, can you (or a mod reading this) edit your comment please because it potentially could be a spoiler. Could change it to: "Contains week 1 results spoiler" (and then put your comment in a spoiler tag). Cheers.
My reply to Radivel (contains week 1 results spoiler): + Show Spoiler +
Thanks for replying. Doing it the way you suggested is quite a big faff that Im not overly keen on, and its kind of messy, Im really just not a fan of that method. I think the way Ive done it with spoiler tags is adequate really and nice and clean. But if lots of people agree with you then Ill reconsider.
Can I ask do you personally like to download all the games ahead of time as you know you wont have an internet connection later on for a period? eg you watch the games on a laptop during a commute or something.
How are you guys getting on with your Week 2 games? Have you managed to get hold of each other ok?
By the way, I have updated the OP with Current Statistics for each Player. (scroll down to the bottom of the OP) These are ongoing and Ill keep them updated as the tournament progresses so each player can track their wins/losses etc.

I contacted Oya on monday but haven't gotten a reply yet :/
Thankyou very much for the video, I didnt expect you to do all of week 1, what a treat. If you fancy doing any casts in the future, please dont feel like you have to do them all. Just picking 1 series every now and then is already good. But Im more than happy for you to do as many as you want!
I will go ahead and post Week 3 anyway. If we get too far behind, we can always have a week to catch up again if needed. However, three players have Week 4 off in the schedule by design, so that could be a good time to catch up if we still need to. But hopefully you guys can get the games done soon. Week 3 starts tomorrow (Monday the 4th of June).
Week 3 Lineup
iRk-arCNeON vs SCC-Faust radley vs Oya187 RedW4rr10r vs Cryoc EndingLife vs CadenZie
Faust has had to drop out unfortunately, so Im looking for a Zerg substitute player. Whoever wants to step into this slot will not have missed too much, only 1 series.
So just to recap the basics of what you are signing up for. Each week you play a best of 5 (always a non mirror matchup). You organise when to play with your opponent whenever it is convenient for you both. The tournament will go on for about another month.
Let me know if you would like to step in and represent the zerg race.
Ty2 is replacing Faust. Thanks very much Ty2 for stepping in.
@Ty2: Week 3 ends on sunday. If you want to get stuck in straight away, you can try and organise to play with Arcneon (tl account name = iG.Arcneon) somewhen this weekend. If you arent able to or dont want to thats fine.
Week 4 starts on Monday and your opponent will be Oya187.
The time zones vs Europen players isn't working out too well for me, and most of the players are European. I can't play at all this weekend as plans changed. I might have to consider dropping out as most of my weekends are busy and most of the European players can't play weekdays at the time I'm able to play.
Ok EndingLife. FavoritBW is the replacement Protoss player. Favorit may try to catch up with the missed games, so that would be against Qikz and CadenZie. So if either of you two have time and want to play 2 series in one week you can try to arrange that with Favorit. No worries if you arent able to though.
Week 4 starts tomorrow (Monday the 11th of June). This is the midpoint of the tour, the week that 3 players have off.
Week 4 Lineup
iRk-arCNeON vs radley Qikz vs CadenZie Ty2 vs Oya187
FavoritBW, Cryoc and RedW4rr10r have this week off.
A reminder that Vincent is going to be casting games from Week 2 tomorrow.
So now is a good time to catch up with the vod from Week 1 if you havent already. As the tour host I know Im not a trustworthy source but its a seriously good cast. There are many tropes that have built up over the years of how and what a caster should say.
Ninazerg systematically dismantles these casting tropes behind a guise of incredibly talented wordplay. Much like the trump administration is with all the laws that protect equality and the environment.
Many jokes that started in the first half of the video come back around again in the later parts. For example, is the glass half empty or half full; nearer the end of the video this is a discussion that comes back around again in a humorous way. HerbMon (nice singing btw) and ninazerg carry the vod and then in the last section are joined by Doc Holliday who reinvigorates it with infectious laughter. I really enjoyed it, cheers guys.
The vod for Week 1 is in the OP. Catch up now, in time for the Week 2 cast tomorrow!
Thankyou very much Vincent that was excellent. There were some really interesting fights in there I thought. I think the stream peaked at 47 viewers and noticed half of them joined after Cryoc vs Arcneon finished. I recommend you guys go back and watch the vod of those games because that was a ridiculously tense series.
mSj_Artanis is replacing Arcneon.
Thanks for the replays Oya. Ill assume those links may or may not be to false games so we dont know who won, but feel free to edit a few more spoiler tags into your post to make sure.
That cast by ninazerg and herbmon is hilarious. I am only one or two matches in. I don't even know what matches, the matches are just a decor for ninazergs verbal gymnastics. Very impressive. Is she the one that also made those ridiculous comics?
Cheers Favorit/Qikz. Added to OP and updated the stats.
On June 15 2018 20:07 Navane wrote: That cast by ninazerg and herbmon is hilarious. I am only one or two matches in. I don't even know what matches, the matches are just a decor for ninazergs verbal gymnastics. Very impressive. Is she the one that also made those ridiculous comics?
Thanks Artanis/Radley, especially as that was short notice after the player change.
We have just three weeks left to go. 3 players have been substituted at this point. However, we have got all 3 replaced and you guys have managed to keep it going so thank you very much for that.
If anyone else finds that they are too busy to play at any point, that is ok, I dont want this tour to feel like a burden. If a player drops from here onwards, I possibly wont look for a replacement. Instead we can just carry on and skip that series. If you as a player arent able to play 1 week, rather than drop out completely, Ill just continue to post the lineup for each week, and if you are able to rejoin back in again later on, that will work just fine.
So lets crack on!
Week 5 starts tomorrow (Monday the 18th of June).
Week 5 Lineup
FavoritBW vs Cryoc radley vs RedW4rr10r CadenZie vs Oya187 Qikz vs Ty2
As for week 3 match me vs Oya I think we are set for today 20 cest. I may be late though for around 30 minutes due to my working schedule for today, so maybe lets meet on 21 cest if its okay for you Oya.
Ah brilliant, looking forward to watching that series, thanks Favorit/CadenZie.
CadenZie is flying to South Korea right about now. Obviously that is a pretty big change in circumstances so I expect she will be very busy now. Huge congratulations and I wish you good luck!
Like I said in my last post, Ill just continue to post the lineup for each week anyway, and if any of you guys are able and want to play your match up then great.
Week 6 starts tomorrow (Monday the 25th of June).
Week 6 Lineup
FavoritBW vs Ty2 Qikz vs Oya187 CadenZie vs Cryoc mSj_Artanis vs RedW4rr10r
Good news; CadenZie's snake Cello is going to be filling in for her while she is in Korea. So Cryoc if you would like to message the snake and organise those games. Apparently he has very good multitasking. + Show Spoiler +
actually Im just joking. Pet snakes cant play video games with keyboards. (But they can play with mice...)
Thankyou Radley for posting those results, thats all been added to the OP.
By the way, as we are nearing the end of the tournament, I just wanted to ask you guys how are you getting on with the maps? Are you getting more familiar with them, has it been easy to get used to them? Any problems? Are they fun?
Yeah, the maps are ok and kind of define Card Cup. However, I wonder why it is using exactly this format as opposed to rotate those two maps each match. But I’m totally fine with how you are running Card Cup
Thankyou for the replays Artanis/RedW4rr10r, added to OP (stats updated).
@RedW4rr10r: Well this tour was mainly to showcase Clay Fields rather than Crown And Sceptre and my thinking was that if you play 2 games in a row on the same map, its easier to "get your eye in" as it were. For example if you make a small mistake in the first game and you know straight away exactly what you would do differently next time, its kind of easier to stay in the zone with that thought if the next game is on the same map.
We are entering the final week of the tournament. Week 7 starts tomorrow (Monday the 2nd of July).
Week 7 Lineup
mSj_Artanis vs CadenZie radley vs FavoritBW RedW4rr10r vs Qikz Cryoc vs Ty2
If you are planning on watching these games, I recommend sticking around for CadenZie vs Favorit at the end of the cast. If you have time to watch just 1 game, Id probably pick Game 2 from that series time stamped here: https://www.twitch.tv
By the way, the VOD is longer than the actual cast because L_Master played some ladder games afterwards, so dont be put off by the video length.
That was your 7000th post L_Master.
He mentioned he might do some more casting tonight. Im not pinning him down to that or anything. Im only mentioning it incase it does come true, it gives you guys some advanced warning. If its at a similar time to last night, then it will start in about 5 hours time. So be sure to check the twitch stream: https://www.twitch.tv/l_master
Oh yes and if you like the infamous Nada's body thread, well the handsome and athletic L_Master went topless for y'all last time so dont miss it LOL. Im sure all the 80+ year old grannies who we all know lurk teamliquid forums will make sure to tune in now. You're welcome L_Master.
#HYPUUUU
(seriously this is more exciting than ASL5 was. How often do you get to watch a korean superstar (CadenZie) fight against us mere mortals?)
(he is thinking of doing Week 5 either tomorrow or the next day, same time). Again no pressure if you find that something comes up or whatever, Im just letting people know that it is a possibility.
Phew you saved the day there Ty2/Favorit, thankyou. Potentially just in time for L_Master's cast (he mentioned he might do Week 6 later today). Cant wait to see those games.
Oh cool, I wasnt expecting to see any more games from CadenZie now that she's in Korea. Thanks Cryoc, CadenZie and Ty2, thats all been added to the OP, stats updated. Those are some big lineups, looking forward to watching them.
On July 11 2018 01:03 mSj_Artanis wrote: CadenZie dont answer me on battlenet ;;
No worries sir, CadenZie is obviously very busy now, so Im not expecting these games to get played. ---------------------------------------------------
Well, due to a few players dropping out and not all games being played, its hard to definitively say. You can look at each players individual stats in the OP.
Of the games played, 3 top players emerge: radley and Cryoc both have 4 series wins and 1 series loss. Ty2 has 4 series wins and 0 series loss.
Ty2 and Cryoc went head to head and the winner was + Show Spoiler +
Ty2
The head to head between radley and Ty2 didnt occur because Ty2 was a replacement player for Faust, and that series had already been played. And ofcourse radley and Cryoc didnt go head to head because they are the same race.
The format is entirely non mirror matchups. While it is an individual tournament, players are also representing their race to some degree. Therefore we should have a look at the stats by race:
By total number of series: Protoss 8W, 5L Terran 8W, 5L Zerg 4W, 10L
By total number of games: Protoss 27W, 19L Terran 26W, 17L Zerg 16W, 33L
The Protoss players won a single extra game over the Terran players. However, they also lost 2 more games compared to the Terrans.
Thankyou so much guys. I actually started feeling guilty once the tour started because I was receiving so much starcraft from you all, it was really humbling, I didnt feel I deserved it or something. To see people playing on these maps and watching the live streams and vods has been very moving for me.
So, I've played all my games. I feared I missed something... after my one week off, I lost keeping track of things. Anyways, it was a fun Cup you hosted, Jukado. Thank you so much for letting me participate
@RedW4rr10r yep if you look in the OP at your individual stats (search for 'Stats' or 'Player G') you can see that you have played all 3 of your ZvPs and all 3 of your ZvTs. It looks like the format worked correctly in that you didnt play 3 of the same matchup in a row.
Incase anyone else has lost track, here is the current list of series that havent been cast: Week 2 Favorit vs Qikz Week 5 CadenZie vs Oya187 All of Week 7 (currently 2 of 4 series have been played)
Series that havent been played: Week 4 Qikz vs CadenZie Week 5 FavoritBW vs Cryoc Week 6 Qikz vs Oya187 Week 7 Artanis vs CadenZie Week 7 radley vs FavoritBW (technically a PvZ from Week 3 is missing as well but this is because of players being replaced).
(Im just listing those games for clarity, nobody is obliged to have to play anymore games at this point haha)
The format worked quite well I think. It could also work for a 1 day event as well. If you got all 9 players together at the same time, and then just played Best of 1s, that would be just 6 games for each person. And they are all non mirror matchups. So a Protoss player for example would play 3 PvTs and 3 PvZs. After that phase you could look at the results and choose to setup a mini semifinal/final if needed to determine a winner. Or just do it by race with players understanding they are representing their team by race. Speaking of which...
There's going to be a cast soon. I don't know when, but maybe you'll see it live, or maybe, you'll wake up and it's gon be there. Where? Youtube... it's gon be there. Vimeo... it's gon be there. Twitch vods... it's gon be there. Amazon... it's gon be there. iTunes... it's gon be there. xhamster... it's gon be there, uncensored.
Does this mean Ive been watching censored ninazerg up until now? Wow. Imagine ninazerg unregulated without a filter. Maybe wait 20 years before releasing that. I say releasing... but probably a more accurate word with connotations would be unleashing.
