With everyone gunning for him, even the mapmakers, Savior always seems to find a way to win, whether it be 4-pools, "maphacking," ordefiler rushes. Deliberately, inexorably, Savior marches on. He is now three wins away from capturing his fourth MSL and becoming a Royal Roader in the OSL.
His dominance and mastery of the game is considered at one of the highest levels of all time, and by winning this OSL, the last place where he still needs to prove himself, Savior can take a step towards staking the claim that he is the best player in the history of Brood War. Can the Maestro work his magic one more time?
Iris Iris has been consistently good, but a bit shaky in television games. His Zerg teammate gets all the attention, but he has definitely stepped out of Xellos' shadow as the premiere Terran player on CJ Entus. He now has an opportunity to accomplish something no Terran has done for years: beat Savior in a Bo5.
Iris has nothing to lose, and nobody expects him to win. But standing in front of him are slightly favorable maps and a teammate's knowledge of Savior's play that no other Terran has. If he wins, he plays his best matchup in the finals. Will Iris finally break through?

No doubt Iris is monster TvTer.
So far this OSL he beated ForGG in group stage and GoodFriend 2-0.
But Nada show his superior TvT this OSL too: loss Oov, win Dongrae 2-0, win FireBatHero, win Light, win Up 2-1, win Casy 3-2.
Tough choice but I'll go with Nada if happens to be the final.

3. Yes, some at higher percentages than others.
4. Iris has proven he can take down anyone in TvT. Yes, Nada can as well.
Long story short. No matter who advances, the finals are going to be badass.

Um you mean because Iris has pretty much usually dominated his opponents TvT? Whereas Nada hasn't shown THAT kind of TvT dominance in ages. Nada is definitely top level TvT, but Iris is on another level. But like Testie said whoever makes it, the finals is going to be sick. This is one of the best sets of Top 4 players in the OSL for sure.
I'm still convinced whoever wins this is a favorite vs Nada.

casy or nada would be favoured in best of five against him without a doubt, iris is good at timing attacks and both casy and nada are too good at reading the opponent to really be put too far behind, nada moreso than casy. Casy's overall TvT management is just better.
This is where i recommend watching the players and their games instead of pulling up numbers and only looking at that. Nada only has ONE more loss than Iris anyway, and Nada's average opponent is stronger than Iris'

@FS: I think the fact that Iris keeps beating people TvT soundly shows that he IS at a very high level. His TvT is definitely just not timing attacks, I think he just has a really good understanding of positioning in this matchup a long with game sense.

Keep in mind I agree Iris' TvT is really good
and yeah he beats people well but again they're lower-grade competition in most cases. you'll find that iris' 6 losses are all against casy/nada/oov, and his wins contain very little with those players involved. Whereas Casy and Nada's TvT contain lots of games against the top players, except for Iris

Iris is 1-1 vs Nada, has a winning record vs Midas and a losing one vs Casy.
Testie pretty much summed it up at this level any player can fuck any other player on any day.
If they meet in a Bo5 it can go either way these 2 players are top TvT material.

We all have bias no matter how much we deny it, I can look at Nada and Iris indifferently but I can't say I'm qualified to judge Casy completely accurately

Then comes Xellos, Midas, Oov, Sea, Canata and GoodFriend (he used to be good  )
Even taking a player from the second group and making him face one of the top3 he'll still have more then 30% chances of winning

savior might actually lose... look at yesterdays games and more specifically the post match interview; savior is tired... does he have the mental and physical strength to win ANOTHER bo5? against a terran which will know his play better than anyone else? who has only had one mu to practice for ages

Well some people play better and some people play worse in the finals. Most of the time they play better, but what matters is how much better are they than their opponent. Anytime, when he reaches finals, plays as good as any protoss out there ever. but in the group stages he look lackluster. i dont know why that happens, but it does.

Well.. this was an all-in counter of savior. He did not scout with a ling or 2 first to see whats the defence of iris. If there were 3 bunkers he would've been crushed..
Imo that was a big mistake. But there was only 1 bunker so he won.
And btw, I do not say savior suxx, but he is not playing as good as we are used to see him play.

Iris had just great starting BO in this game, it was almost perfect against sAviOr.
It could've easily been killed by lurkers first, but sAviOr went for mutas, and as more of mutas were added to first 5(which were repelled by rines), irradiate was alerady up.
Savior was saved by his great lurker placement, but there were two really close moments in the game:
1)First tanks+vessels attack, savior got time for defiliers by catching 2 vessels with scourges.
2)Firebats owning lurkers under swarm(savior strangely burrewod them by one at a time).
This time savior got plague in time, otherwise his 2 gas expo could've benn pwned.
And the time for plague was bought by awesome lurker placement before, otherwise Iris would've made this attack much earlier.

Vs 1 rax cc if zerg times it well he can build 0 sunkens with fast gas 3 hatch mutas and use backstabbing lings to prevent terran from going to your natural, that's one example of a lot of things zerg can do with no defense early game. It's like protoss FE pretty much except with no +1 and if protoss seals himself in with gates

I was just generally speaking I'd like to see some sort of different builds or just more 2 rax academy builds vs him.

That's the best build order to abuse this map ever. Goes fast tech so opponent will go 2 hat muta, and gets insanely fast irradiate as counter. Sends vultures to harass so opponent will have to waste a lot of larva and will have a weak economy.
Follows up with unstoppable push in the middle where flanking is impossible.

Iris generally has some poor execution sometimes etc etc, but in his interview he said "I don't get nervous vs my teammates and play poorly" (something along those lines)
I feel like (for once) a progamer's words about his own play are completely accurate. It seems like iris is calm playing someone he's so familiar with. In this semi-final, i feel that iris has been playing beautifully
props to iris seriously. Its like everyone gets to see this hidden gem of iris's skill now that he's comfortable

Gotta admit, Iris pushed savior much harder than I thought he would.

3 full running bases vs 3 half dead with low eco - into - bazillion sk balls vs like 3 hyds 2 lurks and PLAQUE into the proof that savior is an alien.

Savior almost lost because of one single moment, first time M&M get into his base, because lurkers were in wrong place.
But after that...amazing!
He showed great skill, patience, self-control and will to win.
From now, the moment savior gets defiliers+plague on Arkanoid and survives first biiig attack(he barely did it, and it was similliar to his game with Nada), he is immortal.

yes.. but it could go either way..he could crash down and begin to suck or get really strong and arise..
and savior is yet still the man to prove that nothing is impossible and that the highest perfection of playing is almost reached.

that was the most fucking amazing comeback ever. i was so disappointed at several points bcuz i was SURE iris had won. but no, the story of the game was just that. whenever it was impossible, savior defended.

I dont think i ever saw marines just sit there and not attack the drones. After the first attack on savior's base, 2 mariens were left behind the minerlas of the bottom expo. Savior put drones back on minerals but those 2 marines just sat there. They later show it again and all the drones are dead.

There is no way Iris has S class TvZ. Do you not realize savior is his teammate and he knows him very well? That and some good openers is what made this series. His micro and late game management still stink. He still has a shitty record TvZ. The end

I mentioned before that Savior is a god, he controls the game. When he loses, he loses because he wants to. Of course that is bullshit, it was a joke. What I really meant to say is that we haven't seen the true limits of Savior's power.
Someone mentioned, Iris had nothing to lose, all to gain, Savior had everything to lose. Well.. I don't think that worked out in Iris' favor.
Due to the early game advantage Iris got, and this being the final game, pressure started mounting on Savior. While on the other hand, Iris started slacking because 1. he had nothing to lose, 2. he always sags a little after early game 3. he had the advantange.
To beat Savior, you have to match his determination throughout the entire game. Iris couldn't. This is what allowed Savior to come back.
BTW They both played absolutely amazing, I can't believe you guys are hating on either of them.

he played great relative to his strengths and weaknesses, obviously. he made generally good decisions and BOs for the entire series, and yes his late game micro and management is suspect but he played to his strengths very well and was overall quite impressive. he pushed savior harder than any terran has so far, so close to winning decisive game 5. to dismiss all that with a "he sucks" is just ignorant.

Ya, it's much worse than "sheep" or "bandwagon followers" because non-conformists are not only illogical (like the former) but also by definition hypocrites.
Actually, I think a lot of people do genuinely like savior because of his play style, and a lot of people genuinely dislike him because of his demeanor (or also his play style).

well one of the reasons savior went 5 games these last two days was is unconventional build orders. in game 5 vs iris he went 1 hat muta and yet still won - that's amazing. he's also been 9 pooling and 2 hatching a lot more. perhaps these are due to the maps, or just the fact that they are semi-finals. in any case, his specialization is 3 hat, and when he doesnt 3 hat the games are closer. but still savior manages to pull a win, which goes to show how good he is.

My favorite Terran since Boxer quit vs my alltime favorite player.

Savior has the greatest stamina of any player ever in the history of BW. His battleing through these 5 games a day + all games in Superfight... crazy.
Savior's mental strength and attitude are sick. The man just won't break. Let's hope he can keep up with this physically.
Iris <3. I've been rooting for you for the last 2 seasons and I <3 you but it was vs the Maestro man!
Fuck I love Iris, but damn I love Savior even more. Awsome shit last 2 weeks and what a MSL/OSL season, seriously, crazy shit and the best games ever. One for the books. (both:p)

Wtf? Iris didn't choke. He played well to the end. I have never seen a player who can let his mnm live and macro at the same time. Savior also whipped out some very accurate plagues. Iris had good macro early-mid, not so great micro, but I think that's the best TvZ I've ever seen from him.

how long your vessels last depends heavily on the game at hand. iris played extremely aggressively, his vessels were always in saviors face. he was attacking the entire game. your vessels aren't going to last very long if you play that way. it was a style difference, not a skill difference there.

wasabi, my point was that any time a terran player gets a critical number of vessels (as iris was able to due to him being so far ahead early/midgame in game 5) it will be hard for the zerg to deal with it
so saying "yeah, savior is susceptible to mass vessels" as if its some undiscovered weakness is pointless, because theres no zerg that is NOT "susceptible to mass vessels"
it's just that savior rarely lets the terran get that huge a cloud of them
and does anyone remember the nada v savior superfight arkanoid game where nada had 10+ vessels at several points during that game? and who won?

haha well i think its safe to say that when a zerg does a successful or very successful muta harass in their games (good examples would be yellow[arnc] vs iloveoov on hitchhiker, savior vs midas on hitchhiker, many many julyzerg trademark muta harass games) it sets back the terran and also gives enough time for zerg to expand around the map or depending on the zerg player's style safely build up lots of units and set off to finish up the rest of the game.
when the muta harass doesnt deal enough damage or doesnt keep terran in base it just... imho, set back the zerg a bit
and gives terran higher chance to win.

not only was game 5 EPIC, there were also some unforgettable moments...
1. Iris dropping at 7' expo with 2 dropships... FULL OF FUCKING SCVS... You can hear the fans screaming before the drop, and when they saw what was in it, everyone goes WTF? and start laughing and groaning... One of BEST spontaneous moments in SC I've ever seen...
2. Savior's 4 hydras and 2 scourge intercept and obliterate THREE full dropships in one of the biggest turning points in the game

But at least now we know his TvZ potential, his timing vs savior was incredible. But then again, practicing against him time after time again, there is bound to be a pattern to recollect from. He played like a souped-up sync, and that's hard to come by.

That was THE best vod I have ever seen. Savior could have typed gg quite a few times.. Iris played great. At some point savior desperately consumed mass DRONES for swarm with 2 lings inside there where so many brilliant things in this game. it was mad and it somehow worked... This man is a genius and I admire him. He also looked like a good person when he went to comfort Iris in the end. I just hope he doesn't hurt his eyes too much.
Seeing him fighting and not giving up no matter what's the situation, "creating" the victory even when it seems unachievable was really inspiring for me not just for SC..
This is the first time I was really moved by a SC match

Locke, a lot of eggheads on tl.net take one negative comment that one popular poster says and runs with it. Honestly, I think anyone that has ever seen more than 50 games realized Iris's TvZ isnt complete shit, his micro is just bleh. Other than that he usually has a good time.

For Iris to be a top contender in Starleague all the time his micro has to be atleast godly. If it's not godly, you don't get to Starleague And his control of the big balls of terran units as well. He just doesn't do awe inspiring moves like Casy I suppose but to say his micro is bleh is a crime against any terran in Starleague.
Every terran has moments where you've seen them lose units you thought they shouldn't have.
No starleaguer is bleh. Not even mumyung.

Iloveoov, in his domination, put macro-economics and strategics to the highest level, everyone believed he was invincible.
Savior, by the looks of it, is the most dominant zerg that has ever surfaced.(Julyzerg, yeah, he was strong, but not "dominant" like savior.) Like a puppetmaster I would call his play.
Every era has it's leader, and I think this is Saviors. (I don't like savior much, but I'm expecting savior to win, 3-2 , 3-1, doesn't matter.)
OFC Nada does have a chance, maybe he'll play aggressive, and pull the same thing he did to win vs him on Blitz, non-stop aggression, just like Iris did today. I think Iris had the best chance out of any of the terrans mentioned, his timing was perfect for nearly all games, he knows how this man plays, but if he had Nada's multi-task and iloveoov's intuition, Iris would of beat him. The other players do not have the privilege of playing with him, probably every other day.

I've been hard on Nada lately, but I would put him as the favourite for the final. He will have one of Longinus, RLT or Hitchhiker twice and the other two once, giving him a huge map advantage. RLT and Longinus are horrible, and when the Terran comes specially prepared with a one-base build on Hitchhiker, it's very, very hard for Zerg to win.

I'd like to post one more thing. I don't think NaDa will win. but I think it will go 3-2 in favor of Savior in excellent games of ultimate proportions. But I might be wrong. to add to Suns VERY GOOD list of why NaDa has an extremely good shot of winning.
Savior is having to result to playing weird strats that isn't his normal game, because every game he plays is more information leaked. To which NaDa, "who is more strategic than people think - watch the games vs Casy and you will see what I mean" can use to his advantage. NaDa is good at doing what he does. Which is the Soul Key Terran Strategy.
His micro and macro, and overall game sense is in with the top terrans. Which are obviously. Casy, Iris, and Midas currently? But I think he is the best at SKTerran, which is obviously a very, very powerful strategy, if not the most rounded strategy in TvZ existance, since vessel can target all zerg units, and tanks cannot.
I'm not a fanboy of NaDa. I'm not a fanboy of Savior. I do admire them both for there current skill, but I don't worship them as I do Yo-Hwan's or Casy, or since iris's games... Iris!
What I think the NaDa vs Savior games will be like.
Game 1: NaDa doing an 8 rax bunker rush/bringing all scv's. He's pretty good at it, specially if its on a map like Longinus.
Game 2: Game will be close all the game. NaDa will play kind of similar to iris. Constant attacking pressure with the Soul Key Strategy. But Savior will some how pull micro miracles and pull a win. Savior will not lose 2 games in a row... MY OPINION.
Game 3: I'm just being weird and will say this game will be on Arkanoid. NaDa will win this game with the same strategy he used vs Casy. OR it will fail and his drops will do enough damage resulting in Savior losing.
Game 4: Savior will win, im guessing again it will be on hitchhiker, and savior will do crazy backdoor/ simultanious front door lurker/ling flooding and nada wont beable to handle it.
I Can't even image how game 5 will go, because I'm not a magical warlock, and my head would hurt to much. But I think Savior will win. But I could be full of shit, but this is what an opinion is all about. Enjoy, just people think about what you are saying when you say nada has no shot. You sound rediculous lol.

As I've said before, I think NaDa has a good chance of winning this. He obviously really wants this and in big matches there's no one with more experience. Also, Savior's had to play an absolute ton on ZvT lately (Midas, Hwasin, Iris), so he's revealed all his builds.
Anyway, I have a feeling this is going to be one of the all-time great finals. Even giving July vs Goodfriend a run for its money.

The game five was awesome. One of the best games I have ever seen. Once again, congrats to Savior, the best decision maker this game ever have. I must admit Iris was great too. His dancing marines are incredible, maybe even better than Nada's.
I noticed that for 3rd game between Casy and Nada VOD was commentated as must see. For me the last game from this match is much better.

The game 5 on Arkanoid had a lot of similarities to the great game vs. NaDa from superfight. Savior took the next logical expansion away from the Terran players, so the only minerals left to them were all the way across the map, diagonally. Then he defended the expansion well until the Terran players were running out of minerals. Smart play.

with all the mistakes made in that final game, it was still one of the craziest games, if not the craziest i have ever see. the only thing that would make it better would be if it was the 5th game of the actual finals. talk about fucking nuts though my god.
at the end the look on saviors face was just like "holy shit ... i can't believe this is happening ... now i have to train EVEN HARDER for 2 simultaneous starleague finals"

haha if savior loses the OSL final, everyone can pretty much expect bisu to be absolutely EMBARRASSED in the MSL final, because savior's going to be pissed as hell.

A couple people have said OSL final is 24th and MSL is March 3rd. I don't know whether that's true or not but that's what I'm assuming.

i think people give iris a bit too much credit. in both the iris and hwasin series i thought of all the ZvT savior was having to do in public while nada was analyzing his play like a hawk.
i would think savior wants to have some secret strategies and builds saved for the OSL grand final against a formidable opponent on even more formidable maps. i would think he would try to dismiss hwasin and iris as generically as possible so as not to resort to his hoarded strategies.
during the first few games vs Iris i especially noticed savior played sloppily, and his facial expression was one of boredom. i think from the familiarity he had with Iris it was hard for him to summon motivation against an opponent he knows well and should dominate in stageplay. these errors and the imbalanced maps gave Iris plenty of opportunity. When savior lost game 4 he was *fully* motivated and into the match, no more saving strategies for nada, no more complacent raping of a team mate, the score is now 2:2 and the tiebreaker is on a horrible zvt map.
if you compare saviors play from game 1 of the series against iris to game 5, you will see the difference in this man between when he is motivated and when not. completely behind and in a losing position, on a imbalanced map, he did the impossible multiple times in that game.
i just hope there are enough balanced maps in the finals to give this man a chance, he summoned a matrix like performance to steal a win from iris on a horrible map, but that was no normal performance, he went into a zone that there is no reason to beleive he could ever re-enter.
i think if he beats nada somehow, if he over comes unbalanced maps and pulls off the win then i wouldn't be surprised if he has a slump like oov. to play a game like game 5 and possible games we will see in the finals are something that can only happen when an sc god is chasing down his first ever OSL title. he is so motivated right now we saw it manifest into some kind of miracle.
i'm almost scared to see what will happen in the finals, the combination of savior's skill and burning motivation with nada's own determination and the imba maps are an explosive mix. give this man an osl then keep him away from sc for a while, this is all just too crazy.
P.S. i'm just happy this isn't nada's 'gold mouse' osl

its not absurd, savior did exactly that, hiding the guardian build the first time he played midas until the bracket stage
is it possible that iris saw savior's main zvt builds on these maps because hes on the same team and thus savior has to use different ones vs iris? its possible right? it's neither absurd nor fanboyish to simply suggest this.

Saviour has nothing to hide. There would be minimal readjustments only as these maps aren't zvt friendly and at times you have to go for the risky build.
