Why this map pool? Fighting Spirit: This map has been a staple of the multiplayer realm since 2009. Used in the Kespa professional map pool from 2009 to 2010 it has seen action in 19 different leagues. It's no question when it comes to balance it is the best, as the worst match up is ZvP which has a 53.4% win rate in favor of zerg. Over taking python and other notable maps, Fighting Spirit has become the standard for any multiplayer game on ICCUP.
Neo Electric Circuit and Neo Jade find themselves being played in the qualifiers as they are two of the most current maps played in the Late Kespa premier leagues. These maps show the perfect circle of life in BW. T>Z>P>T However below I'll show you what favors whom in detail.
Neo Electric Circuit: Below you can see Terran players generally have had the most success on this map and have a great advantage vZ. Protoss should also do there best to avoid this map vZ. TvZ: 22-9 (71%) ZvP: 15-7 (68.2%) PvT: 7-5 (58.3%)
Neo Jade : Below you can see Protoss has the advantage here in the matchups while Terran is less favored. This is also a map zerg would prefer to see if they are playing a Terran. TvZ: 2-2 (50%) ZvP: 5-6 (45.5%) PvT: 10-7 (58.8%)
Where can I learn more about strategy of the game? Whether new or a veteran Chill's Recommended Threads in the Brood War Strategy section can give you tons of information.
Where can I watch VODS of Brood War? The Small Vod Thread is a great resource on how to find the latest pro games on these maps. It also is a great place to add new VODs from Brood Wars finest foriegn tournaments if you find yourself with time to add any there.
Also, Sayle's youtube channel is full of VODS from our most recent foreign tournaments
Where can I find people that actively play Brood War? This whole tournament is being played through an active server called ICCUP. While there are other servers, such as FISH, this is the one the has had the best relationship with TL.
The Internation Cyber Cup also referred to as iCCup, was first launched in the year 2007. Beginning and majoring with StarCraft, iCCup continued to grow throughout the years. Eventually iCCup became so big that expansion into other areas of eSports was necessary. Thus the addition of Counter-Strike, DOTA, and WarCraft.
With the ever growing popularity of iCCup eventually it began to attract the Korean population, more so the Korean Progamers. In return, even more foreign players began to play on iCCup with the hopes of being matched up against a Progamer.
With around 3 to 4 seasons per year, a ton of money prize tournaments, Clan Leagues, and much more, iCCup became a huge success and what you see today is the result of the hard work put in by every single person that is involved in someway with iCCup.
Regards, iCCup Crew
Getting involved with Brood War on iCCup is great because it will prevent map hackers and give you the most friendly environment on earth. Learn how to start playing Starcraft on iCCup right now! Following this link will give you the proper programs and a map pack to all the maps that are being played today.
When do the brackets come out? I seriously hope this becomes a regular league (like OSL/MSL ect.), I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Torenhire Starleague/Gem league but we need regular tournaments like this...thank you Team Liquid And it got me thinking, any chance of an offline grand final? Maybe for that (i think) big 4th tournament? :3
While showing the guts and will to face someone is honorable, dropping intentionally for that reason is probably too much. Don't worry, if you both continue well, you may meet later in the main event.
Another sick series. If the calibre of this torney holds up, I can only imagine what games will be in store for us. And the casting is great too. I can honestly say that it's been a really long time since I last enjoyed watching SC this much.

Don't worry we have another game of Draw after and after that we *hopefully* can see ANOTHER PvZ. Now I'm a little sad that we still haven't seen any PvPs of TvTs, but that's just life (Or foreign BW in this case)

haha, yeah thats the way foreign BW has become (; I really do hope kidCanada makes it in the finals.
How Sayle don't know 999 build that Kiante used so many times on his stream I can't tell (Dunno tho if it was 10/9/9 or 9/9/9 as I tabed for a sec). It's a fairly popular build

It was 10/9/9 which threw them off I guess.
well, for a protoss player, it looks all the same (;
I have to say, I'm amazed by how much of an amazing match up PvZ is in BW. I'm still a big SC2 fan but goddamn, it's like a dream. Action all over the map, none of this "unbeatable army" nonsense, every game is epic, micro, drops everywhere, active, fast armies(!!!!), sweet jesus this is so much fun!

I happened to catch...Jangbi vs Zero I think, the semifinal for the 'last' OSL if I'm not mistaken. That game 5 was so incredible, by far one of the best games I've ever seen.
Then I tune into this tournament and nearly every other game ends up being all bases taken, micro all over the map game - none of this "take your half of the map and then staredown at each other for 50 minutes" nonsense.
looking at Dota 2, I kinda wish Blizzard had just done the same as Valve :/ or at least, stuck to the same game designs that gave birth to BW.

I dunno, that build would have been auto-loss had he opened straight Sair/DT which is why you never see that stuff anymore.
P has all the map control in world (ovie speed is really late) and gets a free third if you have dts on hold pos at ramp.

I want to thank the production, casters and players for getting a SC2 fan like me excited for BW. I watched all the qualifiers up to now by sheer coincidence and have been enjoying them massively. Go dRaW!

Rofl thanks everyone, I went to dinner so I couldn't watch the cast. if not for my epic trolling at ec I would have gone undefeated. I am glad you guys enjoyed it and I will be sure to train yo show more entertaining games in the future.
either naugrim left the game after I did, or the replay bugged the last 3 minutes! cuz I was doing stuff until the end!:D
Believe me when I say this; I have probably done more research into the bugged-replay phenomenon than anyone else.
Now, you'll have to excuse me, I don't have the research-brain of a Tec27, but I do have a number of skills available to me that have been gleaned over hours of watching (and commentating on) bugged replays.
Replays bug more often during PvZ than any other matchup.
I learned this during the ThSL, when the command that failed to execute resulted in a hatchery dying on my screen, but not an anyone else's. This gave me the perfect opportunity to study the case.
During a bugged replay, what appears to happen is that the machine playing the replay will flub a single order. From that point, the game begins to diverge gradually from what "really" happened. Commands still go through, but only where the units actually exist in the bugged rep.
In the case of an earlier bugged replay, I saw Kiante dispatching four-probe-hit-squads around the map. To everyone else, he had built zealots, but the commands (by then relatively few) that had any parity on my bugged replay were just that he had selected five units and sent them to attack the Zerg. Probes being the only unit available, they were sent.
All of this explains how Drone was able to maintain an APM of 170 without there being any noticeable activity on the stream. Moreover, since bugged replays usually stop almost every build command, it's likely that there was a long while where Drone was still building units (you'll notice the spiraling amount of money is one of the early indicators in any bugged replay).
As I watched the probe attacking that ultralisk, I couldn't help but think... I've seen this before.
Again, I can't claim to understand what the code is responsible for, but these are the depths I've plumbed in hours of glitched-replay viewing.
If it wasn't bugged, then the behaviour was very consistent with bugged replay behaviour.

I actually had an awesome game vs legionnaire many years ago. it was a tvp on neo forbidden zone.
lots of dropping, fights all over the map, eventually it became ghost goliath vs carrier battle. In the real game, I had to tap out after 40~ minutes after his crazy carrier micro had bled me dry.
but not according to the replay. According to the replay, he suicided his carriers against my force after 38 minutes, leading to me winning the game. like, if that had been a tournament, and I had decided to be an ass and contest leg's victory, referees would have to give it to me. Cause it really looked like I won. :D
