So far everyone has been eliminated but four players
Winners Braket Finals:
RogerDodger (formerly known as rS.RogerDodger or TehBlackBandit) vs rS.Tasteless[9]
Losers Braket Finals:
Nony)Nut vs IBM.JelloRose (formerly known as rS.Rose[9])
Summary
Some great games have been played so far. MannerKiss eliminated nony)nut in the winners braket 2-1 knocking him into the losers braket. MannerKiss was then 2-0ed by Tasteless. Distant[9] was eliminated by Tasteless 2-0 round one, both games were very close. RogerDodger played a great hour long game vs Rose ZvP on estrella (won with pleague and dark swarm. Nony and Distant[9] played round one in losers bracket. Nony barely won 2-1, all games were extremely close. Rose also played a great hour long zvt against Nonys friend and won 2-1 overall. Nony was given the oppertunity to prove himself vs MannerKiss again in the losers braket and managed to do so 2-0.
The rest of the games will be played out tomorrow. GLHF
at maryland. there were 22 people. i got a bye the first round, and got kicked out by amber[light] and only 8 people were still playing when i left. maybe its because it was single elimination?

alot of crazy long games apparently
and alot of 3 game series
plus the lady apparently didn't know how to do it (bo1/bo3, double/single elim etc etc) so she eventually CALLED SINGAPORE to find out hahaha

no there are more than 6, i think there were about 12 total... maybe more? but i could be wrong i wasn't really paying attention when i showed up and some ppl left right after they lost.

the finals were 3 bo5's with the person coming from the winners bracket having a 1 bo5 advantage, whoever got 2 bo5's first won. i think
That's the craziest system I have ever heard of (sounds familiar from last year though.. or from somewhere else ;p).
That's the most serious way to implement a winner bracket advantage though. The very reason the guy coming from the winner bracket has an advantage is that everyone in the tournament is allowed to lose one full series (not one game, one series), sending them down to the losers brackets. The usual system used in BW tournaments where the guy from the winner bracket gets a 1-game advantage seems a bit unfair to me from that viewpoint.
However, it must be pretty disheartening to win 3-0 then lose the second bo5 2-3 In that respect, I think we should use a system like in tennis where you should have at least 2 games advantage, winning a bo5 series 3-2 doesn't really show superiority IMHO, but I guess it would make most series way too long
That's a pretty stupid system. I know I'm a NonY fanboy, but for Tasteless to win after losing 3-5 in games, getting a bo5 advantage (which is 3 free games!) is pretty retarded.
Coming from WB shouldn't get such a rediculous advantage. And then to get so many map picks due to redundancy in the multiple series system they are using just makes it worse.
I know I'm biased, and I know it's BM, but I'm going to say it anyway...
NonY deserved this spot and nothing but system flaws got it for Tasteless. Oh well, gl anyways I guess. WCGs USA has been pretty wacky this year after the very typical online qual gayness, so I guess we should expect no less.
the whole point, which i think was already explained, is that throughout the entire tournament your allowed to lose one series. giving the person from the winners bracket that one series advantage accounts for that.

However this 2 BO5 thing is about the only weird format where he wins because he won 3 games out of the last 5. Also it was setup so loser picks map (even carried on between the 2 BO5 series, so he got to pick the first map of the 2nd series) and you can pick same map over and over. He had practiced especially for Estrella and so we played that 4 times, Azalea 2 times, Gaia and PA only once. Anyway I didn't focus on training for PvP as much considering the lack of Protoss players in the US, I figured my PvP was good enough. However going 5-3 against someone still lets them slip through the cracks of the WCG organization.
Anyway I apologize for my frankness (I know everyone at the qualifier is reading this) but I'm just saying what is on everyone's mind. A competition is still a competition and Tasteless took advantage of what was presented to him, so still I say congratulations to him. You can be sure that if anyone in the USA wants practice against a Protoss player I'll give them as many games as they want... except for Day of course, but somehow I don't imagine he'll have a problem beating Tasteless when the time comes. GL <3
that makes zero sense at all nony : P the winners braket gets the advantage, this was true at the other wcgs besides ours. further more i ended up playing the exact same people that you did at WCG and overall came out on top. I went 2-0 with the same person who ended up knocking you into the losers bracket 2-1 (manner kiss). I also went 2-0 with distant who went 1-2 with you. you were the only person i played who i actually lost to.
While i do think 2 bo5s is excessive if it were 2 bo3s the results would have been the same with me winning. And no i didn't especially practice estrella, i kept picking the map because i noticed my build was more economical than yours when we played and you wern't changing it.
The winners braket finalist always gets the advantage.

it makes it perfectly fair in my eyes. i dont think we'd have this big discussion on how unfair the system is if the 'favorite' won ;o

Haha, fine fine, I'm not trying to make a big thing about it. I already said, I'm a big NonY fanboy and I'd be pissed regardless of the conditions of his loss. This just makes it extra hard for me.

I don't think it's a good system since it makes the finals too long.
Nony did go 5-3 against Tasteless but Tasteless also 2-0'd Mannerkiss who beat Nony 2-1
Obviously Tasteless had practiced all matchups/maps if he went undefeated until finals. Nony played great, but obviously lacked in PvZ which Tasteless had mastered
The system isn't flawed. I'm not taking away from your 5-3 nony - you're indeed a great player and it was some incredible games I watched.
mm actually i went 3-2 with mannerkiss :O if i can go 1-2 then later 2-0, there's no saying that taste wouldnt go 2-0 then 1-2 later. without bragging i'll just say i beat several well-known gosu zergs 2 games in a row during practice. however being able to outplay top players (which i think is the quality that tasteless lacks) does not make up for a completely solid build and the ability to recognize every detail of your opponents play.. which is something you begin to ignore when you play the same people repeatedly, even if they are really good. mannerkiss did things that i wasnt used to and i knew how to counter, but during the game it just caught me by surprise. anyway i just dont think tasteless out-performed me at the regional, but rather "slipped through the brackets" so it's pretty unwarranted to hear "tasteless best protoss player usa" --;; takes a lot more than 1 shitty competition to deserve respect and im saying that neither taste nor i deserve any respect ;o
netcafe, really nice place in the middle of nowhere
forgot his alias, cool dude
its me in the college shirt, tasteless in the blue shirt, and distant[9] with teh brown shirt. nony is the guy playing with the white shirt and his cool bud vince in the red

Bullshit! You both got my respect!
All I can say is that I hope you continue gaming seriously throughout the year so that I can witness a WCGs with NonY in it.
