CSL+: Duke versus Georgia Tech November 8, 2009: 8:00pm EST
Team Interviews
Duke's Coordinator Empyrean: "Silversky is Canadian."
- There are rumors among all the coordinators that the East Conference was cursed by two incredibly stacked teams in the south. Please confirm or disavow these rumors for us. ▲ I wouldn't describe having stacked teams as being a curse. It's more fun for the fans and makes the league more drama slash action packed. That being said, the word "stacked" is a pretty vague term. It's hard to say if any teams are, in fact, stacked.
- Could you give us a little background on your players and their histories? ▲ Probably, but I don't think my players would want me sharing their deepest, darkest secrets. Sneak preview slash spoiler alert: Silversky is Canadian. Ewwwww.
- Is there any history between Duke and Georgia Tech? Do you recognize any of your opponents? ▲ I'm not aware of any history, no. And yes, I do recognize some of my opponents. I've been ICCup stalking them for the longest time. You can't make line-ups without knowing your opponent :<
- How have you prepared for this upcoming match? ▲ We haven't really prepared, to be honest. One of our players recently started ICCuping again. And before people ask, no, it's not Nony.
- What is your biggest unknown about Georgia Tech? Your biggest fear? ▲ There isn't much I don't know about the Georgia Tech team. I'm a statistics major - t's my job to have data on things :D. As for fear, there isn't much else to fear besides the unknown so I think we have it covered in that category :D
- What do you think the results of this match will be? ▲ 3-0.
- What about the rest of the competition in the East Conference? Do any schools pose a threat to Duke in the playoffs? ▲ There are lots of schools in the East Conference who could be considered good teams. We'll let the rest of the season play itself out :O
- Who do you think will make the finals from the West Conference, and how do you think Duke will fare against them? ▲ UC Irvine and UCSD have pretty strong teams. I think we'll manage.
- Any words for your opponents? ▲ Not really, no
- Any words for your ▲ Oh I wasn't aware we had any fans. This is quite flattering :D
GEORGIA TECH
- There are rumors among all the coordinators that the East Conference was cursed by two incredibly stacked teams in the south. Please confirm or disavow these rumors for us. ▲ It’s true, Emory and ourselves are pretty strong teams this season.
- I hear Georgia Tech has a few new additions to their team this year (and more recently, in this round). Could you introduce them for us? ▲ Well most frequently we have played Tony David Choi aka eleven. He’s a C- Terran and a really fun guy. Although Ed Tan played for the CSL a little bit last year, this year we were fortunate enough to get him to play every week. He’s a very very smart Protoss and I love to watch him play. Most notably I would think is the addition of Ruodu Wang aka Master Asia (and I believe back in China he went by the aka PDR). Not only is Ruodu one of the top Zergs living in the country right now, but he is a really awesome person and tons of fun to play with. Oh yeah there’s also this guy named Brian Fransioli that I met at a LAN party last week. He’s a pretty cool guy and we’re trying him out vs Duke this week.
- Is there any history between Georgia Tech and Duke? Do you recognize any of your opponents? ▲ No I don’t recognize anyone from Duke. Don’t they have some Zerg player who lived in Korea for a few months or something?
- How have you prepared for this upcoming match? ▲ I had everyone whose playing this week practice spelling words out with buildings. It’s pretty hard to form letters with hatcheries.
- What is your biggest unknown about Duke? Your biggest fear? ▲ I hope they don’t lag. That’d be awful.
- What is your greatest advantage over Duke? ▲ We’ve got the balls to play all three races. What’s this PPTT non-sense?
- What do you think the results of this match will be? ▲ Georgia Tech winning 3-2 3-1 or 3-0 with either Ruodu, Ed, Brian, or David dropping a game.
- Who do you think will make the finals from the West Conference, and how do you think Georgia Tech would fare against them? ▲ I haven’t really paid much attention to other divisions but I would say UT. They were great last year and it looks like they’re just as good this year, plus AttackZerg is a great guy.
- Any words for your opponents? ▲ Don’t forget to research storm this time ^^
+ Show Spoiler +Yeah it's pretty douchy but I think it's 10x more enjoyable to read than if I answered questions honestly lol.

I am bored, if you want I can stream and cast it. Most are TvP, if I actually cast it my knowledge in that MU sucks hard.

There's always a possibility of cheating. There are things we can't stop, and I think this was definitely a matchup worth live streaming for the CSL fans. Our hope is that people are above cheating and respect themselves, their opponents, and the league enough to not resort to something like that.. It'd be the same as a hacker imo.

Yes I know, but something like delaying the stream by 15 or 30 minutes reduces the possibility of cheating by a lot, while still allowing for a stream.
Some cheating may be unintentional, i.e. the team watching in the same room as the player playing, and the sound is on. Even if the player doesn't want to cheat, he'll still hear stuff, and it's hard to ignore "OMG OMG PROXY RAX" when you hear it.

I didn't say Duke or GT cheated. I'm just saying that it might be a better idea to have a delayed stream, or to even cast the reps.

I pushed for people to remove the sticks from their anuses, and it worked.
In the future though, we'll coordinate these big matches so that we can get a delay. Although at the time, it'd be really annoying to 100 people on my stream to watch me sit in the channel for 20 mins waiting for a game to be played, etc.

If player A takes a hidden expo, player B may never find that expo in a game. But if the commentator says "A is taking an expo at 7!!!" three minutes later B hears it and recalls to 7.
Best case scenario is if games are cast after they are completed.

They don't have to watch you for 20 min waiting in channel. Just say stream starts 30 minutes after the matches start. Until then just play a vod or something.

The point is, that wasn't practical at that moment because there were already 100 people in the channel. Sure in the future it can be worked out so this is no problem, but for that time it wasn't very efficient.
Plus, people likely wouldn't cheat.

What with cameron kicking our ob out of the match and then starting it immediately after and all.... there was no reason to create more potential problems when you could have watched the stream, just like we were
that's your opinion but it doesn't give you the right to kick our ob out without discussion

+ the first game was completely lag free and there was no reason to believe that the 2nd game would of been any different.

The main reason why that happened was because our first CSL. We wanted to obs Nony play but one of the CSL admins stated that there were no obs allowed in any of our games.

I pushed for this but Xeris kept on PMSing I pushed for people to remove the sticks from their anuses, and it worked. In the future though, we'll coordinate these big matches so that we can get a delay. Although at the time, it'd be really annoying to 100 people on my stream to watch me sit in the channel for 20 mins waiting for a game to be played, etc. They don't have to watch you for 20 min waiting in channel. Just say stream starts 30 minutes after the matches start. and no that's not just my opinion.
1) increases the likelihood of cheating 2) might lag up the game
watching a *live* stream instead of obbing is something you guys are gonna have to learn to deal with. or at least not whine about it.

Gameplay rules -Only players, commentators, and one observer per team are allowed in game. Observers and commentators can be asked to leave if there are latency issues.
if any team wanted to cheat they would have viewed it live and told the player what was going on.. no need for an obs to cheat if they really wanted to cheat their way into victory. but it's all good I'd rather play without obs if that'll create any doubt on our opponents' minds that we might cheat.

Well the games were legit, and they all turned out great. I dun think there's any point arguing over this now.

It's the player's priority whether they want obs or not. The player doesn't have to accept obs , and in that case neither side gets one. The rule might be a little unclear, but it basically means that the option is available if both sides are amenable.
I don't really know why your admin said no obs were allowed O_O unless the other team refused?

true that. i mean our team prepared some cheese builds against the better lineup of yours(altho they failed T- T) I was actually happy we didn't have any obs to lag my marine micro(which also failed btw). (sorry ozzie =P)

i don't understand why you guys *insisted* (as in ignoring the player multiple times and re-joining when kicked) on having an obs in there when the player strongly didn't want one. he would have certainly allowed it if it weren't being livestreamed. after all, the players are the ones playing the game and it should be up to them whether they want obs or not. everyone should give them the respect of following their preference. one of your members joining the game over and over while ignoring the player was not cool.

whoa, i didn't mean to start a bitchfest.
as long as streams in the future take into the consideration of game integrity, i'm happy. otherwise, one side may have an unfair advantage, even if unintentional. it's like that time when the air force had its first sc match because boxer joined, and boxer told the commentator to shut up because he could hear him. boxer's opponent proxy raxed in the middle, which the commentator mentioned, and then boxer spotted it. would hate for something like that to spoil a major match.
gogo delayed stream!
