The Format
Finishers 9-24 from the previous MSL are seeded into the Survivor Tournament. The highest KeSPA-ranked players from each team that are not already qualified after the previous MSL are also given a spot. These 28 players are joined by the 20 players who advanced from the offline preliminaries, and then all players are split into 12 groups of four. Each group is played in double-elimination dual tournament format. Two players from each group advance to play in the next MSL.

Bisu's in the team distribution, but not on any of the other lists (nor is he in any of the brackets).

Did he get knocked out already? And if so, by who? Bisu made it to the quarterfinals of the last MSL, so he's automatically got a seed in the Round of 32.

Where are you getting this information from? MST spots are given out to #9-24 from the previous MSL, the top 12 KeSPA ranked players from their respective teams, and the 20 qualifiers from the offline prelims. There are no spots delegated to players who were 3rd in their MST group - all players who don't qualify from the MST go straight back into next season's preliminaries.

Oh I am sorry, this format I was using was last seasons MSL not Survivor :D. Going to remove those.
Glad that someone noticed :D Did save a lot of unnecessary work

I think WCG had 6 Protoss out of 24 players and there was a PvP final.
|
Terran lineup looks pretty weak apart from flash, only one other SL winner: ForGG.
Edit: Though I suppose ForGG was the last terran to take a title (LOL), with Flash being the one before. In fact, come to think of it, there haven't been many Terran title winners over the years just iloveoov, mind, forgg, nada, casy and flash since 2003. (Though I suppose Protoss have only had Nal_rA, bisu, anytime and stork in the last six years. Eight Zergs though.)
Edit: interesting fact: Calm vs Kwanro is the first MSL since the early days when both finalists have never appeared in a SL final before. This has happened once in the last six years for OSLs as well: Iris vs GGplay.

Was it me, or did the Calender say that the Selection was tonight?
Did it already happen, or was I seeing things?

Yeah this confused me too. It said that it was going to be at 18:30 KST but now it just disappeared from the calendar.

Fomos removed it from their schedule a couple of days ago. Apparently there are rumors that MBC is having difficulty with their sponsor/having trouble finding one.

Progaming never falls. Its just certain organizations governing games will.

uh oh
EVE online, sponsor the MSL please!
|
So, just to be clear, they drive the GOM tournament out of business, the first tournament with any potential to expand the market and attract Blizzard itself as a sponsor, and then one of the established tournaments falls flat on its face anyway!? Is KESPA suicidal or grotesquely stupid?
|
wtf is wrong with kespa seriously, they are screwing up the entire foreign gaming scene. someone who knows how marketing works should reform everything, so that sponsoring works out and progaming expands.
|
Don't rush to blame Kespa for this. So far it's just a rumor and nobody really knows what went down. Maybe they had a sponsor that pulled out at the last second.
|
I'm not blaming KESPA in the sense that they caused the MSL to fail, I am pointing out that not only did they make the bizarre business choice of not trying to expand the market in which they sold their own products, they closed down a major tournament, GOM, when one of the established tournaments they were favoring was apparently not very healthy.

Everyone should STFU until we have some conclusive information.
This is all speculation, nobody really knows what happened.
|
NERDRAGE FTW! But seriously, stop thinking too much. We don't know what really happened yet.

amen

Indeed. We don't know why the group selection was delayed, only that it was. It would not be prudent to blame Kespa for everything.
No, for all we know this could well be the work of a certain other agent who has publically enunciated his intention to abrogate the professional StarCraft scene by extirpating its practitioners within the end of the year...
...What? Don't tell me I was the only one who thought of that?

ok, back to the MSL/MST
i would kill for this matchup in the finals:
Calm (defending champ) vs Jaedong (guy who got rolled by defending champ last time)

The last thing we need is another ZvZ finals....enough is enough already.
Very interested to see what sponsor they have this season.

What are the "Prematch tournaments" going to be about? Just a showcase of whats to come, or will players be eliminated in it?

It seems like they're just taking all the people who haven't been in the MSL before (BeSt?) and pitting them against each other for fun. I think it's just a showmatch - no eliminations but I could be wrong.
edit: I checked and yes, BeSt has never been in an MSL before - wow!
