I was just wondering what some protoss players thought of the necessity and/or usefulness of the following select upgrades I was thinking of.
1. Protoss shuttle speed ... I rarely get this unless its an island game, practically never on LT... sometimes in PvP
2. Protoss plasma shields ... I only get this when I know I have completely overwhelmed my opponent and am searching for things to do.
3. Templar extra 50 energy ... Note: with this upgrade a fully energized temp can deal 3 storms. Is this useful in PvZ? I usually never last past the 15 minute mark and have rarely used this upgrade.
4. Carrier + 5 or something interceptors... I almost always get it during PvT, I personally think it's a good investment.. however I don't notice top protoss users researching this.

1. in my opinion the shuttle is slow as fuck, and when it has shuttle speed the shuttle can run away from scourge/wraith easily. I get this upgrade a fair bit and when i have heaps of minerals/gas
2. i only get this when i have an advantage over opponent of excess minerals which arent used for nethin at that time
3. Templar energy is good letting 3 storms out is much better than letting out 2

1. (On land maps) I like shuttle speed when reavers are going to be an integral part of my game plan. Otherwise, I leave it be; a slow shuttle is fine for dropping probes on an island/cliff.
2. I typically don't get shields unless it looks like I'll be hitting 200/200 soon, in which case any upgrade you can get is crucial.
3. Always always always in PvZ.
4. Yes. Get the +1 air weapons upgrade, too.

top protoss users don't research Carrier + 5.......t.t

with the extra energy upgrade, when your high temp have just spawned it starts with 80nrg instead of its usual 60nrg or something like that.. that means it can cast a storm right when its just spawned.

it's +4 btw... w/o up it's 4 interceptors, w/ up it's 8......
[edit]units with mana start with 50% of their maximum mana, so a temp w/o up starts with 50 mana and w/ up ist 62 (rounded down) mana

1. shuttle speed is very important, unless you're just not using any shuttles. in pvz, you need to run from scourge/muta, or hydra when flying over land. when you fly behind your opponent's minerals to storm drop, and you press u then click on the shuttle, a shuttle with speed will drop the units more spread out, and it'll make it a lot easier to storm from multiple templars. also, if you're mass dropping in any matchup, shuttles with speed are easier to spread out and drop evenly when the AI messes up and units don't unload from certain shuttles. furthermore, in pvt, your zealots will be dropped in a longer line when dropping over tanks, when shuttles have speed. if you're going to use shuttles at all except for the sole purpose of protecting some cliffs and/or expanding to islands, this upgrade is more than worth it.
2. shields are good to upgrade eventually. in pvz, it's nice to have archons with an armor upgrade...and why not? everything else gets the upgrade too (including cannons). it's also good for carriers, since they already have strong physical armor. it may not be worth the cost in the early game, but once you have a few bases and some spare gas, it's good to have.
3. you get three storms per templar--you said it yourself. it's extremely worth it. energy upgrades are almost all worth it, imo, at least with protoss.
4. uhh...if you think you don't see top players getting this, i honestly mean no offense, but you might be crazy and/or extremely unattentive toward fleet beacons. having double the amount of interceptors means you deal double the amount of damage...anybody who uses carriers and decides it's "fine" to _not_ double their attack damage should see a doctor.

1. great upgrade,pvt i always get it when i can,great for cliff harass response time [dropships] and is even better for harassing with,with shuttle speed you can easily fly over a turret to a mineral line without losing your shuttle and gives him less response time to move his scv's.generally if he makes a starport,i get shuttle speed
pvz-outrun scourge late game for land maps,invaluable for air maps pvp-i always have 1 speed shuttle with 2 reavers no matter what point in the game,the ability to harass effectively is what wins games in pvp
2.rarely neccessary,1+ shield can be good if you're playing on a heavy gas map,since archons with shield ups are really good,2+/3+ can be way to expensive most of the time though,so i don't usually get it unless i have a clear advantage
3.usually going into the late game i get it,in pvz early/mid game if you're sitting around long enough for your templars to go above 200 energy you're probably gonna lose anyway,so late mid game or late game i usually get it
4. who the hell doesn't get +4?o_O

1. i dont get this unless im using a shuttle for more than just an initial reaver drop... 2. i rarely upg shields 3. i used to never upgrade this, but if it's true that after the upg, temps start w/ 62 energy, WHY THE HELL HAVEN'T ANYONE TOLD ME???? best upg! 4. duh!

OMFG I AM A PROTOSS USER LOL LOL ROFL... Enough caps, but i have never known of existence of shuttle speed- is this a joke!? i think it is. Checkin my bw but i dont believe u guys; there is no such thing as shuttle speed. been playing protoss for like 2 years.

it's called gravitic thrusters (right?) and it's at the robotics support bay...the upgrade on the far right, hotkey G
p.s. the acceleration of speed-upgraded shuttles is amazingly better than shuttles without the upgrade, so if you react quickly to running into enemy fire, you can retreat more quickly as well.

i think almost always +1 attack, if not always. +1 attack ownz lings and +2 attack ownz mines and for pvp i dont really think which one u do makes a difference.

1) Speed shuttles are very common in PvT aganist a pushing Terran (look at Pusan) where you need to break a push fast. Also Reaver builds PvP almost always speed shuttle.
2)Don't really use it myslef but an upgrade is always helpful.
3)Lots of high lvl P users up this. This ofcourse is only useful if your temps survive long enough for this up

wait..the templar +50 energy upgrade i'm not sure about this, but as i recall, after upgraded, a newly produced templar comes out with 75 energy instead of 50, that's one storm shot automatically. [edit]n/m..someone already said it
