I've always had trouble doing 1a2a3a4a5a because I have to slowdown doing it because I otherwise risk some of my control groups being skipped. Playing other games for a few years I can do this extremely fast but I'm forced to do it rhythmically in Starcraft, and was wondering if there's any possible keyboard settings or something to fix this problem or if I'm stuck doing it this way.

I tested this on another computer first to make sure it wasn't just my computer (it had the same OS though).

The problem is if you press 1a then press 2 while a is still being let go it doesn't register the group.

Help?

All I do is practice it... sometimes I'll make a single player game with cheats on, just so I can practice 1a2a3a4a5a and see how accurate my key presses are.

Well, you could do a move command first and then do your a-move slowly, so that they would all arrive at once anyway.

Though I can't say I've ever heard of a problem like this before...

theres some kind of cannon UMS, where you basically just practicing targeting and pressing 1a2a3a. Pretty fun, makes your hands tired tho!

Sometimes I do this, then it allows you to 1a2a3a slowly while all your units still start moving at the same time.

Other times, I'll just 1a2a3a twice or even three times in huge battles late game just to be sure all my units went. Better off wasting like 3 seconds doing than than finding out only 3/4 of your army went and ended up getting raped.

You should practice...

You need to practice ingame, notepad isnt good enough because yours is mainly a coordination problem betwen your hands. You need to click right after the a and before the number or you will miss groups orders.

I have seen progamers hotkeying CC and hiting 1r2r3r4r several times, its similar, and you can use that dead time to practice the 1a2a3a shit.

Yep really sucks if you forgot those 2 extra groups of lings or that group of zealots when your charging into the Terran ball of DOOOM.

I'm new to SC, but I find 4a5a6a7a etc much easier than 1a2a3a4a. I just keep my pinky on a and use my index finger. Feels better for me

Which do you use for end game building macro then?

Actually that's how I set my unit hotkeys too.

1 - Main CC
2 - Natural
3 - Production building(double tap to macro)
4-8 - Units
9 - Scanner
0 - Scanner

Doesn't work too bad actually. I'm pretty fast at 4a5a6a7a8a in-game, and since I'm constantly managing and macroing my base because 1-3 are all together. Works for me anyway.

There are still F2, F3, F4, 1-3, and 8-0 for those areas or buildings. All it is is a shift of the hotkeys, but they're all still there. Sure I'm noob, but it just feels much easier as I don't have to move my hand, although I'm sure there are players who use 1a2a3a and are faster.

No, the problem is, while your mouse button is pressed from a+click you can't hotkey-select the next group. So you have to release the mouse button as fast as possible.

And don't practice in notepad, you don't have to use the mouse there.

ohhhhhhh that explains why my rally points get all messed up when i change them, usually i jsut spam 4-0 a bunch of times with right click.
with units i usually get though, but a bit slower.

someone mentioned that 1a2a3a game, it heped me out quite a bit, i cant come close to beating it but i made it to level four

Play protoss, you get plenty of practice...
No really I have the same problem, I hope SC2 doesn´t have this "feat". It gets on your nerves when rallypoints are always around the map But my keyboard isn´t the best for SC either I guess.

I had and still have the same problem, if I press another button too fast it doesnt work, so I used to skip few groups and lose the big battles. However, I found another, maybe even better way. Lets say I got lurker/ling army with 12 lurks and 48 lings. I group them from 1 to 5, then get set them in formation (lurkers in front, lings from sides) and just do 1-click-2-click-3-click-4-click-5-click towards the MnM army. then with no harm 2a3a in one side and 4a5a in other side, lurkers reaches marines, 1u. Well basically what I'm telling, you can just order them to move, and when all groups are moving, re-order them to attack. :}

sounds like my macro problem- with zerg i 5sh6sh7sh8sh9sh0sh too fast and it doesnt work sometimes. Only cure i have found is forcing myself to really pound each key in a nice rhythm. Tips? :D
