I'm putting together a VOD of a player for each race, who is in the top 48 of TSL, giving some strategic insight. They will go over a few of their TSL replays, explaining the strategy behind their builds, tactics, timing and reactions.
On top of that, our guest will load up a few TL.net people's replays and give you direct suggestions for improving your play.
I need your replays!
If you would like to take part, please take a second and provide the following.
1. A link to your replay
2. The matchup
3. The approximate skill level displayed in the replay (We're aiming for ~D+/C-/C/C+ level, but post anything you've got)
4. A quick summary of what went wrong and what you need help understanding. This is very important as it will help the guest tailor his advice towards you.
5. (Optional) A list of questions. They can be general, or game specific. This will be useful during downtime.
Thanks!

I'm P, opponent T
In this replay, we are both C- but I've since then dropped back to D+ (I was C last season so I think if I try hard enough I can get back higher)
I obliterated his little marine/tank/vulture rush at the beginning and tried to counter (I probably waited to long to do it, but I knew he had mines set up and my micro isn't that good, so I waited for observer, which I tried getting earlier than I usually do). He had tanks in siege mode so I immediately backed off. This is where I wish I had zealots. I expanded then just macroed as I saw required. I was kind of surprised by the push attack he did even though I had units around the middle of the map. I tried engaging the push but died. I probably shouldn't have sent my zealots straight into the vultures, and I wish I had gotten shuttles to drop some zealots on the tanks.
My macro was off (not enough gateways, opponent had like twice the number of factories running off 2 bases). I think I should work on getting the right unit mix, like more zealots or get psi storm faster. I dunno if that's right or not, though haha
so my main questions are, do I need to work on getting better unit mix? (pretty sure the answer is yes) Obviously, working on macro is a given, but there's gotta be more than that. I probably engaged the attack incorrectly, too.
Anyways if you could look at my replay that'd be great, thanks...

3) Both D+ (?) Not sure. I know I can get to D+ on iccup. But my sair reaver is much weaker than my standard PvZ. Maybe he is D.
4) I did a practice game vs a random Korean because I want to try Sair Reaver. Basically I gave up halfway because I practiced what I practiced. What went wrong? I think I executed the harass ok at the beginning. But I don't know the strategic nuances of Sair Reaver. I don't know when to switch to a ground army, for example. I don't know when to mix in DT/HT harass. I don't know when to get double stargates or when to get double robotics. I don't know if sair reaver is stronger vs a 1 expo or 2 expo zerg. I don't know when to take the island before you harass. I don't know when I should harass with my first reaver and when to wait for a second.
Basically, I did some ok harass. But then my macro slipped majorly. I was actually surprised by this. I can't macro and sair reaver at the same time, apparently. And he was getting his defenses together, splitting up his hydras. Seems to me I should have gone ground army with zealots and a lot of temps.
I also tried to get up an expo, which was probably stupid because I had more than enough resources.
I think I could have beaten this guy if I had played more standard. Also, his build with very quick hive was strange. I never saw it before and I didn't know what the correct response would have been.
5)Is it actually a good idea for a player of my skill level to try sair reaver? I know it's hard to execute. Same with Sair DT. Maybe it's better to play straightforward with zealots/HTs/goons/obs.
What is actually the strategic goal of sair reaver. Harass isn't going to kill. When have I achieved what I set out to achieve. When do I switch tactics? To me the questions stated are more important than the replay itself. I know why I lost; poor macro. That amount of minerals I had stacked up is just unacceptable.

Probably pick another Sair Reaver replay for the broadcasted show.

We don't really know our skill level because we've never really played seriously recently, but I'm guessing it to be D-/D range. If you could actually view the replay and tell us what you think, even if you don't use it, he said he'd appreciate that too (and I would as well...maybe comment on my play too, please? It's really poor).
I had more resources than he did the whole game, kept up pretty well in macro, and whatnot. He made a lot of questionable moves (check out those useless Hallucinations...I think he just wanted to waste gas, which upon viewing the replay, he had a ton of), and had 80 APM.
He didn't give me any questions to ask, but I'd personally like to know what I could have done better. I know that's really vague ...come to think of it, he'd probably like to know the same as well and also gripe about the apm difference between us.

4. Two main things went wrong here. Firstly, I scouted his 2fact, and THOUGHT I knew what to do about it. Apparently I was dead wrong. When I scouted it I avoided expanding and instead teched to obs and put up an early third gate. I then hardcore pumped goons. It still wasn't enough! When he pushed out of his main he had too many forces + mines (my obs weren't done yet). I was forced to retreat to my cliff to avoid losses. This set me back greatly and allowed him to expand before me (EEP in PvT...). So if what I did is not how you counter 2fact, how the hell do you?
Secondly, I knew he was only on two bases, so I did NOT expect him to have that many tanks. Most Terrans I play wait to go on full assault until they are at 3 bases :\ How many facts should I look for to know he is going for a big push already? What do I do to stop this?
5. Questions:
1: When you are containing the terran to slow his push out and to stop vultures to get out, what do you do when you get spread too thin? All terrans I play slowly unsiege a couple of tanks at a time and move out ever so slowly, causing me to move my forces back into an increasingly large circle of contain. This causes my forces to be spread way too thin. Should I instead move them into a main army and a small flanking force? Or two main forces? What formation should I put them it? I don't want to run them all away, because then I lose all map control, so how do I keep the terran feeling uncomfortable and keep myself in the safe zone?
2: It was stated above in the replay explanation, but how do you beat 2fact?
3: How do you scout an enemy that loves to spam turrets? I've played some terrans way more spam-crazy than in that replay, in which they like to turtle hardcore and put turrets everywhere, especially as they are moving out to prevent any zealot drops/etc. This makes it so I effectively can't put observers anywhere, and I have no idea what the terran is doing or when they are going to push. How do you deal with this? Dweb? haha. No but seriously

Im around D+ now, and Game is like B+ or somewhere around there.
I open up 2fac vults and do very little damage, if any at all. It looked very even to me at that point, so i decided to try and open up the gap a bit. This is where it backfires....like a lot.
I constantly moved out with about 4 tanks and 8 vults like,,,,4 times. Each time, i took something with me but i lost that army. He had an extra expo that i didnt scout fast enough, and i lost the game.
Is crawling with tanks to expos and harassing with vultures the only safe TvP build midgame?
I consider the first 10 or so minutes of the game to be one of my stronger points, cause I pretty much memorized the timing for everything. In the midgame, I just totally screw up because i didnt expo, or it got killed or something.
So basically, i keep moving out at the wrong times and my harass is pointless. I really shouldve turtled up and grabbed more xpos and played it safe with maybe some dropship harass instead.
My main question is how would you expo without making a seige line over it? Is playing that aggressive considered reliable? Does it work vs higher level gamers? What are some alternatives to expanding passively if any?
So if you can spot any huge glaring holes in my gameplay, other than my macro, and the above mentioned, dont be afraid to flame. I'm fireproof =). Also, if you have any suggestions on how to play aggressive TvZ, TvP, TvT, please tell me.

I'm having trouble against ultralisks, it seems like when they get up to 6 ultras or so with Zlings i can't deal with them anymore. On maps like python where the zerg can easily take an starting location up the ramp and put lurkers on top, and tech to hive for swarm and nydus. It seems like their expo is almost impenetratable. Soon, they will take that bottom expo of another starting location and then add another nydus and swarm, which makes it also hard to deal with.
In the above replay i believe that my macro can be worked on, and i'm sure thats a big factor why i lost, but what other things do you see i did wrong? did i do some bad attacks?
I know i screwed up in the beginning when his mutas came in, and my first initial army got annihilated, but it also compensated for that bad attack he had. From watching this replay he never got 4 gases for too long of a time, and still managed to have flooding ultralisks...
Basically how do i play late game TvZ? Should i compensate for his 4 gases by mass expanding? Or maybe i should really focus on taking th eir expos out by out multitasking like when my main army goes to the middle of map, and set 2 dropships to take his expos out?
ALso i've seen a lot of koreans move out when their first initial vessel is out along with 3-5 tanks. Should i use that force to attack their main or expo? Other times i've seen them move out after the muta harrass becomes weak, other times not, how do they decide upon that?
I really believe i win TvZ's because i'm lucky, I've won vs some high level zergs on RARE occasions and lose to C-'s too

TvP
2 Gate Proxy in Main on Blue Storm or other maps: What do you think is the safest/best way to respond to a 2 Gate Proxy in your main? Lets assume you actually scout it at the time you begin building your barracks or a little bit later.
Will you try to go for the pylon? - But those can be rebuild or be on the high ground on blue storm.
Or the Gates if they are not finished yet? - Can work but you are in trouble if a zealot gets out and you will lose a lot of mining time.
Or Put down a bunker and do standard tech?
I Can think of more options, but i don't know which is the most efficient way to deal with that.
13 Nexus: What do you think is the best way to respond to 13 nexus? If you find him early/if you find him late.
I like to do a somewhat fd push with 12 scvs and try to kill his nexus. Meanwhile get my own cc up and plant mines at his natural. Retreat after that. If the nexus goes down but he doesn't lose his probes it usually developes into a quite normal game.
Another option would be building cc after you scoutet his nexus and play normal, but i feel that i am already behind in that situation and if he plays safe and does another nexus its hard to keep up.
So Questions without a replay are ok, too? You could ask them at the begin of a new replay or so.

Fast Ultra: The build choosen likes or liked to do.
In my opinion the best way to respond to that build is containing him with marines/medics while going for drop and transitioning the army into his main where his hive hopefully is or ultralisk cavern just building.
2 factorys and a well timed push can also work but if the zerg delays your push with sunkens until the ultralisks and the carapace upgrade are ready it gets really hard.
I haven't encountert this build very often yet, and i didn't lose too much, but as pro gamers don't seem to use it and other foreign zergs like mondragon also prefer other strategies there has to be a significant disatvantage. So which one do you think is the biggest problem for the zerg?
Drops, timing push or even better economy and delaying him with mines?
I hope something gets picked
So Questions without a replay are ok, too? You could ask them at the begin of a new replay or so.
Ok I have got 2 TvP and one TvZ Question. TvP of course for arthosis, TvZ could be either artosis or ret.
TvZ
Fast Ultra: The build choosen likes or liked to do.

I dont know wtf happened here, did i scout too late, did i scout bad?, i mean i find really hard to deal against 3 nexus that fast.
So, what should i do? just set up a agressive push (which i did but was a really bad push) while expanding ? i just can't fight against such a mobil army :S

Here are some reps from last season and my problem still is the same, these reps just represent my problem good....
TvZ 1
TvZ 2
TvZ 3
Okay, as you probably see my big problem is TvZ since TvT doesn't occur that often so thats not a good problem, and my TvP is waaaay better than my TvZ (even though it suck compared to most of the TL people).
My TvZ problem is that im just too passive, I don't know when to make a move. I know the basics when to move out (like when i get my first medics, and when I get my vessel) but I can't seem to do any real damage. Even though I know if he got an expansion, i can't kill it, im just too slow. Another problem is I lose all my macro the second I move out, I'm not able to control my army and macro at the same time....
Although I need some tips on my BO's, I know what to build (like when i fast exping) but I dont know in what order (should my 3rd supply come after or before my cc?)
My biggest problem in TvZ is my inability to deal with lurks and defilers. If the Zerg goes lurks before mutas, I don't know what to do. Should I add extra rax, tech to vessels, 2 fatc? I have no idea.... The thing that I can't deal with defiler is probably my lack of multitasking, which means that I'll lose any game thats over 20 minutes but still..
TvZ win
I'll ad one rep of me actually winning a TvZ so you can see both side of me. This Zerg is pretty much the same lvl as me (d+), but the only reason i win this one is because his lousy defiler/lurk control. I win by his mistakes, not my own moves... But since this is my latest TvZ, I'd like som tips on this one to, because i know I'd lose to a better Z ez, I'm very passive inte this match to, but I ´just don't dare to move out because I'm scared of lurkers...
Looking forward to the VODs and I appreciate all your work.... (I also apologize for my spelling any my reapiting of words, I'm drunk and it's 3:15 am so.. i got my reasons^^)
Anyway... thanks

3. I am D- and the protoss was rated D. I suspect he was possibly much higher rated on a different account, but will rely on Artosis judgement on this comment.
4. I definately needed more factories, the macro needs a lot of work. This is my 13th loss as I am currently 2 - 13. It's been 8 years since I played online prior to TSL and these 15 games. A lot has changed. I'll accept any and all criticism.
5. I have the oposite question than -orb-'s post above. How does 2 fact opening defeat this aggressive goon army?
I tried to stay aggressive the whole game, but never quite got the upper hand, was the protoss player every in any troble at all?
Thank you so much for this opportunity in a rep analysis.

It was a ZvT matchup on GAIA
I am a C- level player (low C- i can maintain it but can't go any higher)
I got out played i felt the whole game i couldn't manage to keep up every time i expand it got run over. I felt one step behind the whole game. I made i bad desision attaching early in game with second wave of lings i knew it was bad but i did it any way don't know why
here are my main problems with this match up why i lose
1. before hive tech comes i face his MnM ball with lurks and lings and i burrow my lurks in the wrong spot or not in time its GG
2. I have alot of trouble getting my 3rd gas i figured on Gaia if he sends most of his force or all of it to attack my exp then i should counter cause if i get enought lurks up in his natural its usually GG
3. In this last game once i didn't get my 3rd gas up i needed to get more expansions but i couldn't i feel like terran just has to move its groups of marines to exp rip it apart. I try to get lings, lurks, darkswarm and scourge together but it takes tooo long to get them all grouped up and then i get to his units Dswarm he moves away runs to my exp and in seconds owns it while at the same time he is getting exp and securing it with a group of MnM. basically i just feel overwhelmed vs better players trying to micro a force of lings, lurks, Dswarmers and scourge while all this is going on i gotta try to pick off vessels and he is picking off my shit trying to move into posision.

here is a good example of me getting run over really bad by a good P probably B level but was C- when i played him
Question:
Once I get my 3rd exp on maps like python, long, luna, tau, etc many times its gets run over by the mid game blob of zealots, goons, archon or 2. If i don't have enought lurks its GG for me also if they don't attack me and play defensive i am not capable of mobilizing my pack of lurks along with lings and hydra to try and slow the protoss from exping, unless i am containing i can't make lurks go on the offensive and help stop expansions. I can sneak lings out and pwn their exp but better players gaurd there exp with a few units before cannons arrive

my ZvT is so weak, especially comapired to my ZvP. Which usually can hold its own vs C+/B- players. I have a few in my current clan who i play against and do fairly well. But my ZvT is so inconsistent and dumb. I don't know when to make stuff or when to drone push or how to read a situation correctly. When to swarm tech, how to defend expo, correct muta timing.
just generally the basics that make a person good at ZvT i am lacking. I have micro skills, I definitly can macro, that's why my ZvP is so strong. But for some reason i cant pull my micro and macro and timing skills together to form a decent ZvT skillset. Also lack of training partners doesn't help

the guy in this rep got to B- on ICCup last season, and i can do alrigth against his protoss and i beat his terran before. (he's protoss main) But i struggled so much with management. That games kind of old though, maybe klike 2 months, i will try to dig up a newer one.

Well mostly i have trouble in zvt becuase i don't play it alot. The problem I had was mouting an effective attack the only attack I was able to get off was ruined becuase i saw sv irridating and i miss shift clicked and my units didnt go broad side but isnted in a line to their death before i noticed. Mostly i need help with understanding how to deal when the constant pressure applied in zvt its a much faster game then the zvp that i end up plaing so much. Also had issues on binding i was tring to swtich from my usual 1-8 hatches 9-0 units to a 1-3 units 4-8 hatches 9-0 casting units
I've only beaten my friends in zvt once and that was due to a nice lurker hold whipeing out his first major attack with a swift retaliation before he was able to build up troops. He never fell for a lurker hold again...
How to break and keep the pressure away from your nat/main.
Also how to put the pressure on the terran when they control a choke.

, Question]Rather than submit a replay, I would like someone to go over how to play against a fast tank push TvZ.
I 9drone scout out of habit on iCCup, so I see him make one rax, followed by taking his gas. This means either fast drop, fast tank, wraith or mech, basically some sort of tech build. (these are from my experience; there are probably others that I just don't encounter very often).
What should my reaction be upon scouting this fast gas? Assuming he goes for the fast tank, should I just go mutaling and eventually break his contain? Assume he's made two bunkers and a turret or two.
