Then you actually need to know the gas timing to determine if they are going to muta play. It's really important to use a corsair for scouting and see if they got a hydra den or went to lair tech. Two major builds are based on muta timings or hydra timings. Learning the difference will save you minerals if you forge expand and can skip on building more then one cannon at the natural. Liquipedia has these strategies in more detail. Protoss of course. Sorry should have included that in my question. What you've said I already know, but sometimes it's hard to tell the builds apart IF I'm not doing a corsair build because often times I go for Zealot 1+ timings and I can't tell exactly which build he is doing with my probe. I mean the number of hatcheries can give it away, but it occasionally happens that the zergs hiddes the hatcheries and then you are f'd. How about this. Today I played a game where I scouted his base and he had 3 hatches of of 2 base. I wasn't sure if it was Hydra or mutalisk because I saw the hydra den, but it could have been fake. Do I just assume it can be both and defend both possibilities I could do this and still be a little bit a head of him, but it just doesn't seem wise.

But 1.5xnumber of minerals is about good...2x is even better, 3x is about max saturation...3 on gas is a good number, although if you really need more gas 4 on gas wil give you slightly more gas, not that much more but it might help...

I'm currently only playing against computer, and beating it easily, but I doubt I'm ready to play an actual person. I was wondering if anyone had a nice simple zerg build I could be doing while getting used to the controls and the game?

When your supply's at 9, make a spawning pool, then make an extractor, mine gas and make zerglings. When you have 100 gas, take drones off gas and research your zergling speed, then just make hatcheries and zerglings and try kill the other person early.

you can just 9pool every game; it puts you a little behind in zvt if your opponent micros properly, but they probably won't so that's fine 9pool, 9 ovie, 11 zergling*3, 14 hatch then either 13 gas for 2 hat or 15hat 14gas for 3hat you can do the extractor trick if you want but honestly it doesn't make that big of a difference

Like a... 3 hatch Muta or something like that? Thanks! 3hatch muta is pretty standard but doesn't usually end the game quickly. In my personal opinion, if you want to improve your mechanics the best way to do it is to play a build that's designed to end the game quickly, allin style, because then you can play the same thing over and over again but it's only a short thing so you can memorize the actions necessary to accomplish it and improve your mechanics without having to think too hard about the strategy. I can show you a really nice 2hatch lurker build vs terran, which usually ends the game about 8 minutes in. If he's good, it'll drag on longer, but basically you can do this build 6-7 times in an hour which means you can work on getting your mechanics and timings perfect for the build without having to worry too much about the strategy involved. And it wins lots of games too, which helps for motivation.
