This was a lovely and fun photo shoot on a gloriously sunny afternoon. Lee Jaedong agreed to do the whole shoot using English and it was a nice change to communicate with him like this. I explained to him that the foreign communities fans like his 'tough' and 'masculine.' image in opposition to the 'cuter' style of his team mates Backho and Lomo.
Our concept was to make it as stylised as possible - very clean and with the idea of a 'fighter' in mind. Jaedong was as always a joy to work with. (When I told him about how the foreign fans view him he said 'I'm cute!' and I assured him that it is the case as well.)
Forthcoming will be the fan meeting photos and also a special treat for Hwaseung OZ fans which requires a little more time to complete, but should hopefully be ready by tonight or tomorrow.
From my POV, as I said on IRC, this is some of your best work. Really like the poses and the lighting is awesome, did you modify it much in PS or is it all natural?
Holy shit these are some awesome JD pics. Lighting/poses are excellent and they seem to be of really high quality.
*Edit*
I'd like to say the fact that this guy gets up fucking 2 hours before the rest of his teammates to go to English lessons (and is clearly getting somewhere with it since you were able to converse) and still manages to be the best goddamn SC player on earth is pretty impressive.
Great photos! I think JD is trying a little too hard to look like a fighter, though, because there's nothing tougher and more masculine than Jaedong's natural game face. The last photo really is adorable.
Once you save up most of the $$$ you need for the new camera you'd talked about before, you should run a donation drive at TL for the last $100 or so... I'm sure people would help you out since we heart your photos.
Also you can link to this post to prove it wasn't your idea
I think I've figured out why JD is my least favorite of the "big three" - it's his looks. He's more attractive than Flash or Bisu. Apparently I'm insecure or something.
Pretty awesome, nice use of lighting in the photos. I like the pose in the fourth picture, but I see it everywhere and I have no idea what it's supposed to mean.
I remember back maybe... a year or a year and a half ago when I was lurking without an account, maybe on IRC it was? Neggy was posting about how she didn't like Jaedong or Lecaf.
How times have changed! Great pics, Jaedong's awesome!
I though that shooting protraits in the afternoon usually ends up bad considering there's a chance nasty shadows appear around the eyes/nose but your pics are amazing.

I know (lol) - actually that was a lot about my misconceptions regarding Jaedong. I took his 'game face' as his personality and it's just a world away from how friendly and fun to work with he actually is (plus it took me a while to forgive them for crushing Khan at the PL finals!)
My preferences really have changed now I'm working with the teams not as a fan, but as a photographer. Now I tend to prefer gamers for the challenges or ease they represent when I shoot them and teams for the way they present themselves (like T1's use of mascots or the many events the fans put on for KT's players.)
@danieldrsa: Already done - please check my master list for 3 shoots with Bisu

I'm a straight guy, so maybe I shouldn't be commenting on who is more attractive, but wow, you really think that JD is the best-looking of the three? Bisu is like model-beautiful--granted it's of the feminine type, but even so. Anyway, judging by the screams, Bisu def. has the most fan-girls.

That said, great pictures, thanks.
Really? I find Bisu better looking than Jaedong
This might not have been the case a year ago when Jaedong's skin was not as dark and he was a lot thinner back then but this means alot coming from a JD fan

Funnily enough all three of them are difficult to photograph - it's nothing to do with their personalities or how 'attractive' they are - it's a case how the light hits the angles of their faces. I love the challenge of working with all three of them for their interesting faces and the way in which their personalities translate into the photos.
Speaking of attractiveness, it always boggles my mind that HWASIN of all people is the one that koreans (or more like, korean teenage girls?) find so attractive. Different culture, I think.
Jaedong looks good. I like that he keeps his hair from being so huge like some of them. Better'n Flash, I agree . Though at one point I found it really funny when Backho switched out of the bowlcut just for Jaedong to switch into it.. He was taken very well in these shots.

uh Hwasin > Jaedong IMO plz plz no haters
He looks like a vampire to me. Really sickly, not healthy. Just so you know why it shocks me, so many progamers look better to me..

QFT. Bisu I understand. Jaedong I understand. Hwasin I have always found rather ugly. I guess it's a matter of different cultures as you say.
I think you should do a poll asking if we like the 'tough' jaedong more or the 'sensitive' jaedong more.
I for one think he's a total badass either way. Thanks for all the work you do, especially these! That turned out great. I really like the second to last one the best I think

The appeal of Hwasin for Korean young women (and men lol) is that he has a very androgenous kind of beauty - he's got perfect skin, a full mouth, nicely shaped eyes and is well styled to fit his slender body type. I personally love photographing him because it's almost impossible to take a bad photo of him. He's like an idol in terms of looks (in person.) - comparable to someone from SHINee or Super Junior.
