Definately works. I still have the discoloration however and wasnt able to solve this with compatibility settings or anything... Still, just glad i can play. SC was the game i was most worried about. Thanks! Xaanix the discoloration is fixed by killing the explorer process before you run SC, theres a thread somewhere here on teamliquid on that!

the batch script basically restarts the explorer process as part of the script, the OS does not restart it automatically. Killing explorer doesnt stop any existing programs, and you can still alt-tab between programs you have open, so basically what happens is that you run the script after you've already started broodwar, and then alt tab into broodwar and all the colors are fixed. This obviously works regardless of whether you use the ICCUP launcher or not. These are the commands for the script, just create a .bat file and paste in the contents below: @ECHO OFF ECHO Starcraft for Windows 7 ECHO _____ __ ______ ECHO / ___// /_____ ____________________ _/ __/ /_ ECHO \__ \/ __/ __ `/ ___/ ___/ ___/ __ `/ /_/ __/ ECHO ___/ / /_/ /_/ / / / /__/ / / /_/ / __/ /_ ECHO /____/\__/\__,_/_/ \___/_/ \__,_/_/ \__/ taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe PAUSE Start explorer.exe

So, the Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation as they call the audiodg.exe process on Win7, is the thing used by 3rd party audio hardware manufacturers to put in stuff for their audio drivers, and at the same time not break windows apart (that's the reason audiodg is not included in svchost). My system setup is equipped with an embedded Realtek HD audio device, and by consequence, i'm using Realtek drivers which i update on regular basis. I'm using Windows 7 RC1, from around the time it was available to test from MS (several months ago). While on Win7 at that time, Realtek had come up with a series of drivers, which had one thing in common - on a random period of time, the audiodg.exe process would take up 100% of one of my cores (i use a quadcore, and audiodg is a sigle core application) - this is when using audio - like playing Winamp, waching a movie, playing games. Then it would stop harassing my core after some minutes or longer, or when i stop outputting audio from the soundcard. This did not bother me much as it irritated me, cause like i said i use a quad core and this means only 25% of my cpu were taken. At that time i had stopped playing SC due to problems with color inversion, to which i find solution here at TeamLiquid a few days ago :D Thanks a bunch for that!!! Meanwhile, Realtek had released a driver, which removed this bug with audiodg. Recently however, new drivers appeared and as strict about drivers as i am, i immediately decided to go for it and apply them - new drivers could only make things better, right? Guess what happened - the audiodg bug appeared again. This time however i had already started playing SC after fixing discoloration problems, and my machine hung during several games, which had me searching all over the net for a fix (including the affinity fix in this thread). This morning it hit me - could it be possible for audiodg to bug itself out right during the middle of a game and on top of that, on the same Core, on which my SC was running, resulting in taking up all CPU resource out of the game? Could that be leading to some confusion in windows core management and a total system hang? It it possible, but not yet proven. I am going to add here, that i have the SC music turned on during gameplay, and all sounds on, included. My roommate, with whom i play, did not have any hangs whatsoever until now, and guess, he uses an older Realtek driver on Win7, which i presume had this audiodg problem removed... So, will make a few tests and maybe a driver rollback, and report back to you on results. Apologies for the long post if someone feels irritated by it, i am just trying to give a hand to all faithful SC players on the new Win ![]() p.s.: you could try and help me out with testing, by monitoring your audiodg process while playin winamp for instance, or by playing SC with sound off. For those who use Realtek HD Audio soundcard - the triver i'm currently with: Vista_Win7_R235, and the driver of my roommate: Vista_Win7_R234 - feel free to test and report back here or on PM

Turning off system sounds seemed to significantly reduce the amount of freezes, but I'm still waiting for a 100% fix. Now for some reason I can't even use the newest Realtek drivers because I get really bad sound (it's fuzzy and there's lots of static and crackles). The older drivers (I'm using 1.97) have good sound but I get the freezes. This is strange because my other computer (desktop) has a realtek card as well and can use the latest drivers with no problems. This computer never gets the freezes nor the sound problems. However under the driver's manufacturer it says "Microsoft" instead of "Realtek". That is the only difference that I'm aware of, even though both computers have Realtek sound cards. edit: the driver version on my desktop (the fully working computer) is 6.1.7600.16385 in device manager. I believe this is R2.34 but I'm not sure.

edit: the driver version on my desktop (the fully working computer) is 6.1.7600.16385 in device manager. I believe this is R2.34 but I'm not sure. I actually believe that this is your Windows 7 version right there, not the Realtek driver (in this case Win7 RTM final version). You can check the Realtek version if you go to the Realtek HD Audio Manager, and click on the "i" information button on the right hand corner. My driver version is 6.0.1.5953 (R2.35 installer). My roommates' is: 6.0.1.5943 (R2.34 installer) That about the Manufacturer is interesting, I have Realtek as such, not MS, my roomate also has Realtek on his device manager audio manufacturer..

I installed this driver using win7's automatic installation. When I try the same thing on the laptop, I get the "realtek" version and the sound is messed up. Very confusing ![]() The driver I am using on my laptop is 6.0.1.5653, as said before it's 1.97

As far as win 95 goes... well that's some old school sh*t :D WhuazGoodJaggah, i am using a similar .bat file, with the difference that it launches the game directly and after exit restores explorer.exe like this (D:\Gamez\Starcraft points to my install dir): taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe After all command prompt sequentially executes all commands and waits for SC to exit before going to the next line. No need to pause console and then Alt-tab and such Nice ASCII art :D love it!
