If windows 7 is an improvement it will be an awesome OS. please send me this magical vista.
but to be honest, after the first service pack, it has greatly improved. it doesn't really crash (as long as you don't fuck around with it too much )
i have windows 7 installed on a partition, but i have yet to use it. (too lazy to redownload all my programs and such lol. leaving it for the summer)

If you have vista, you can upgrade and you won't lose any of your programs. If you use xp you don't have an upgrade option, but when you delete the old xp partiton during a win7 reformat it will keep the contents of certain folders, notably the Program Files folder, and move it to C:/Windows.old in win7. I put all my music+movies etc into program files before I reformatted and everything works perfectly.
On topic: I have the same problem but my sc seems to be a bit more stable; I haven't suffered a crash within ~1 hour yet

Windows 7 works nicely, except the crashing downs about ones a week, but thats understandable ´cos it is beta.
However Broodwar did crash down on me every now and then when playing on fullscreen once i started playing in window mode nothing has happened so far.

If you have a multi core processor you might want to try setting the affinity under the task manager to just 1 processor for starcraft (rightclick the process, choose set affinity). I have to do this every time i run SC with my quad core or it will randomly lock my computer up... I use Vista 64 Ultimate, not sure about windows 7.

It's definitely more of a vista upgrade.

People badmouthing Windows 7 should seriously stop listening to their Vista-friends and try it out yourselves.
I personally can't or never could stand the condecending menace that is Windows Vista (dedicated XP user for over half a decade), but find the Windows 7 beta to (despite its current beta-stage-flaws) be far far above and beyond Vista. Oh and the ones saying Windows 7 is just an updated version of Vista. Please. Has any OS sequel ever been completely unique in every feature? No. I'd say Windows 7 is further from Vista than Vista was from XP.

EDIT: This does not mean Windows 7 is bad. Vista was awful at launch time, but it's gotten much better over time. I still like to poke fun at Vista, but it's not strictly inferior to XP anymore- it's a bigger resource hog, it's prettier, it's got better security, and it has a 64-bit version.

im on 7 right now and am really liking it.
and had no problems with starcraft whatsoever. didn't even have to set the affinity (annoying as hell) or run as administrator (also annoying) like i had to in vista.
loving 7!
although the messed up colors thing happens in the menu 100% of the time but i am sooo used to that it dosent bother me. its stops when is tart a game so no biggie.

Bw has never crashed once on windows 7 for me
|
If you're playing on a quad core, hit ctrl alt delete, go to starcraft and right click, hit set affinity. Uncheck everything but CPU 0.
I have win 7 and other than this problem which is specific to quad cores as opposed to windows 7 (had it happen on xp as well) i don't have any crashing with bw.

Just as expected, teamliquid is at the forefront of starcraft support. This fixed my windows 7//quad-core problem! thanks guys!
