While Bisu dropped 2 games vs hyvaa in the prelims, Flash dropped his fair share of games recently too, cant we all be friends and hail TBLS as the top? :x Although to be fair, Jedong only recently started winning again, and Stork still hasnt started yet. Edit: Typos

I never said he wasn't the best protoss in proleague or whatever -- he clearly is considering he's about to get the win title -- this is a thread about Elo and I think it's fairly obvious there's something up when Bisu gets knocked out of OSL and his reward is being #1. The number has some clear value to it but it's left out plenty of games with plenty of importance. Now this will probably throw a lot of fuel onto the fire, but... Bisu, at this very moment, probably IS the best player. Why? Well, he hasn't lost 2 consecutive games since March 20th (he went LWL against hyvaa, right?) He's peaking in both PvT and PvZ, and his PvP looks strong enough to be #2 closely behind Horang2's. When was the last time you saw a Protoss able to win in ALL 3 matchups? Stork could only briefly PvZ for like 2 weeks during that OSL run, for example. The only progamer that Bisu has consistently lost to in the last 6 months has been Flash, who has a 3-1 record against Bisu during that time. Even so, their meetings are generally close affairs. Bisu had also lost to Stork earlier in the year, but it's been quite a while since then, when Bisu didn't seem confident in his PvP. Last, and most important point: Even if the OSL prelims counted toward Elo, Bisu would probably still be #1, at least until the individual leagues get going, because Flash has dropped five in a row and Bisu would've added 3 wins and 2 losses to his record. I expect Bisu will have a better time with the MSL, which hopefully will start again soon.

This spoiled the shit out of people who had not watched the games live but saw that the elo peaks thread had been bumped. Well, but they were justified, as he was creating new peaks, which is the original topic lol. Also it never spoiled anything for me. Each new post could've been something like "Flash finally lost, the peaking stopped at xxx". And I'm sure this thread actually was bumped when he eventually lost.

No. See: Note: Leagues whose names are in italic (special/offline events) do not count towards ELO calculations. Is at the bottom of every page displaying results for players/overall games, etc.

When you see the number, you know the answer, you dont need to analyse prelims this and surprise loss that, the formula does all that for u man. And thats why it is the de facto way of determining who is best. What are you talking about? Elo is just a number which represent a simplified view on player performance. And as such, it needs to be taken into consideration with circumstances. That's how every statistic works. There is no bigger lie than misinterpeted statistic. The facts is Bisu has high Elo thanks to his great performance in PL...and thanks to the fact that osl prelims aren't factored into it. If you want to get true picture of players competitive abilities, you need to go deeper than looking at one number.

Granted, for the most part ELO is the best system for determining who is statistically doing the best.

If the games counted Im pretty sure he would've had the same ELO rank as JD Flash etc. Do you find that justified and fair ? ELO rank represents consistency, every game matters equal regardless of the tournament it was played in. What some ppl imply in their posts is that there should be some rule whenever someones out from the individual leagues to drop 100 points extra or smth like that, this is just not what the rank is all about. Following the logic in regards to Snow's streak, Flash and JD would also have alot higher ELO than they have now, as they did similar in offline tourneys in their "youth". Offline tournaments would also inflate the ELO point pool horribly, as bad players (starting at 2k ELO?) usually leave/retire after having fed the pool with quite a few points.
