As far as I know, the Starcraft ELO system is modeled the same way as other elo systems (most famously in chess for instance). This means that there is no absolute cap, for instance I remember JD losing to some scrub around 2000 ELO and dropping a huge amount of points. To put it in simple terms, your expected win rate against a certain player is calculated by a comparison between your ELO and your opponents ELO, and then the number of points you win or lose is decided by a predetermined K value. For example, if your ELO is 2400 and you play someone with an ELO of 2200, you are expected to win 76% of the time, and so if you do win you get K*0.24 points, and if you lose you lose K*0.76 points (and your opponent wins K*0.76 if he wins and loses K*0.24 if he loses)

The K value used on teamliquid is 20 (as far as I can tell from previous changes in score), so there isn't necessarily 20 points split between the two players, but it is the maximum you can win or lose, and it is also the highest possible change in difference between the ELO of two players after a game.

Let's not forget that every new ELO peak after a loss is another milestone. He had to pull 11 straight wins, 9 of them in best of threes, to get to the 2443. Should he lose the next match, this might be the highest ELO ever that a player achieves.

One question regarding the ELO system: Is the K value higher for MSL or OSL KO rounds than for regular PL games?

Yes, he had to win 11 straight, and kid is ridiculous, and this might be the highest he ever reaches (if he wins both leagues I imagine he'll rest up a bit) -- but he only had to climb so high because he lost twice in short succession and MVP was so far below his ELO. I'm not sure but I don't think he would've lost nearly so many points vs Jaedong or Kal. If he wins each finals 3-1 I expect him to stay within striking distance of setting the bar even higher.

Not only is Flash at an all-time high, he's also a cool 235 points ahead of ELO #3 (who he just 3-0'd). What a one man show today's Starcraft is. Two if you wanna count Jaedong.

Lol, not even close. He gains 3-4 points from beating #3 in the Elo Rank. That means 2-3 point for the average player. So he has to go ~ 20-0 from now on for reaching 2500.

2500 is probably out of the question, but I wouldn't be surprised if he reaches 2450. As long as he doesn't lose in proleague he should be able to do it in the OSL final, no matter who his opponent is.
