Fantasy Update
Shinhan 08/09 - Round 2 Week 2
It has been two weeks. Some owners are regretting their picks while others have become pleasantly surprised with their teams’ results thus far. Teams heavy in players from a combination of CJ, Samsung, and MBC should be looking to rise in the standings a bit now that those teams should be playing two games a week for a couple weeks now. Lecaf players will have to wait it out another week while other teams who were getting multiple play days will have to cool down a bit for their owners….
SKT Domination
No team has had the Fantasy success that SKT has shown thus far. The team has vaulted four of its players into the top ten overall standings and has gone on a four game undefeated streak to start off the second round of Shinhan 08/09 Proleague, putting the team as a higher scoring pick than any other up to this point. Is it time to start looking to unload these players or will they continue to dominate in fantasy lineups?
Though Leta tops the score chart at the end of this week, Fantasy is right on his heels. BeSt surges up the rankings a bit this week as he is now the top scoring Protoss player, along with SangHo. Bisu and s2 reside in the bottom of the Top Ten list, Bisu not even having had to play a game this week to stay up there.
Looking at Week Two’s trades, 13 owners of Thezerg have opted to trade him off for Casy. Thezerg seems to be one of the only players getting playtime for SKT and not churning out any wins. Somehow the curse that affected the previous SKT Zergs from round one has been lifted. Or maybe it’s just motivation from the new guy threatening to take their once comfortable positions. The only other two players with losing records on the team are Canata and Midas, each of whom has only gotten one game.
The results have shown in the Fantasy League standings. The top three teams at the end of week two each have four selections from SKT, and not a single owner among the top ten has less than two SKT players.
Top Tier Letdowns
Many owners couldn’t resist picking up one or more of the high cost players to their team, thinking they could be counted on for good performance regardless of who they went up against. Players such as Flash and Jaedong should be expected to be sent out every week to play and pick up a generous portion of their teams’ Ace matches. They should also be expected to win in most all of their games which they are sent out for.
Jaedong floundered in his first two games out, starting off by only earning one point across the first two weeks combined. In week three he only has one match to play, but it’s against Flash and I don’t think I can consider Jaedong the favorite there considering both of their recent results. Owners of Jaedong seem to have some faith in him still though as they haven’t been jumping ship, confident that he will start to make up his points once Lecaf gets more than one game day a week.
ZerO and Pusan are two other costly purchases that have been performing below expectations so far. With only one win apiece to each of their names, they are not on pace to be worth their investments unless they step it up in the coming weeks. Zero has a tough opponent in firebathero this coming week (a top tier player who is performing to expectations) while Pusan should be able to get at least one win between his two games this week, and two if he can knock off Kal.
Calm seems to have bounced back a bit from his poor Week One showing, alleviating owners a bit. free also has a respectable score so far, though it isn’t quite what his owners were hoping for this far, he hasn’t been a complete flop either and should continue to do well through the season.
Week Two in the Books
Leta, Fantasy, Mind and Flash match or improve upon their already solid week one performances to vault a Terran dominated top of the Standings. YellOw[ArnC] cools down a bit after an amazing week one performance, though his teammate Leta seems to have picked up a thing or two from him in point scoring. BeSt and SangHo climb up the charts a bit this week, proclaiming that it is not quite yet the end of autumn and Protoss may still have a week or two left of it’s season to shine.
3 Lions stays on top for the second straight week. He has also gained a slight lead on the teams behind him. Once again, I asked 3 Lions to share some of his thoughts, more insight into the mind behind what appears to be a very solidly built team couldn’t be bad...

None of your three SKT players got wins this week, but still got points for team wins. What was some of the thought behind your selections of Mind, Flash and Luxury?
KTF and WeMade both have very good players, but not much depth. I used this information to select Mind, Flash, and Luxury, because their teams have no choice but to send them out every match.
With SKT playing only one match this week (against WeMade), how much do you expect this to affect your place in the standings for next week?
I don’t think that this will affect it too much. I am expecting about 10 points from that game alone, and I think I have made adequate adjustments so that I can at least be in the top 5 by the end of next week.
Many people seem to be unhappy with TheZerg's performance for their own teams. What are your thoughts about having him on yours?
I think that I overestimated Thezerg after his OSL performance. He will never be a top player again imo.
And of course, anything else you would like to add?
I am very grateful but not surprised to be in first place. I have complete confidence that I will win this Fantasy ProLeague.

Like many other owners this week, 3 Lions is going to be dumping Thezerg to pick up Casy, a step toward easing his near complete reliance on SKT T1’s success in order to do well.
I also asked disciple about his team. He is the winner of the first Fantasy MSL and that success seems to have translated over to the proleague as well as he currently sits in 11th, just off the weekly top charts.

You are currently tied for 11th. As the winner of the Fantasy MSL the success seems to have translated over to here as well. How did you go about choosing your team?
Well I'm following the progaming scene pretty close but to be honest I composed my team in like 10 minutes and now I must say that I regret some of my picks. Half of my team is SKT players, I've expected that T1 would do much better in the second round of the season and they are indeed doing just fine. For my MSL winning team I picked up players that generally perform strong in the tournament (Kal, Bisu, JangBi), I wasn’t aiming for the big favorites like Flash and Jaedong, and I've tried to do the same with my FPL team (BeSt, Really, OverSky). I think the teams in the current Top 10 are much more balanced than mine and I will have hard time winning the contest.
What was the thought process behind putting two players from ACE on your fantasy team?
The biggest problem for ACE this season is the league format and the absence of 2v2. My whole strategy was to choose players that will be in their teams line-up every week. I thought the safest pick was OverSky, maybe only Flash plays more games than him in the PL. If I filled up my team with top Samsung players, I would be bashing my head right now. ACE have quite a short bench, which means that their line-up will rarely rotate. Having in mind their training routine, ACE (by which I mean OverSky) is showing amazing improvement and in a Bo1, which is important for the PL, they can pull up some victories. Anytime was cheap as well, I thought he will justify his presence in my team, if he could win a game here and there.
TheZerg was a popular pick for the league, but many owners seem to be disappointed with his results so far. What are you thoughts of having him on your team?
I was actually almost forced to get TheZerg. Originally I had Tazza in my team, which I think was a great choice, since OGN doesn’t have that many Protoss and he would play almost every week. But, as you know, Tazza was removed from his team’s line-up for some reason and I had to find a cheap replacement for him. Generally I was against Thezerg’s transfer in SKT. I think T1’s coaches will rotate their Zerg players, they could even dare to send two of them at a time, and Thezerg will most likely get more chances to contribute. He is a new guy in the team and as such, I think he would be tolerated for some time by the coaches, but Thezerg must win his first game for SKT asap.
What expectations do you have for the upcoming week or the rest of the league in general?
In the beginning of the second round of PL I thought that OGN and SKT will do better than Stars and STX. It sort of happened but now the teams are so close in their performance, that it’s almost impossible to predict what will happen next. At some point Samsung will start sending FBH, Stork and JangBi together, SKT will most likely continue to rape (Boxer's comeback may boost their team spirit even more), but besides that I'm not sure about anything. Maybe Samsung will win the league by a close margin, can’t tell really...
Is there anything else you would like to say?
I want to express my gratefulness and respect to all the TL staff. Things like the fantasy contests are really making following the Korean Starcraft scene even more interesting. Thank you for your hard work. GL to all participates in the FPL and FMSL contest, especially to OneOther Lastly I want to apologize for my long and boring answers as well as for my poor English...
