so i searched trough forums for answer, but didnt seem to find any. So its basically same problem several ppl have had, without getting any decent answers.
I can only play with 1 other person, if theres any more ppl they all show up with 2 green bars and it lags horribly bad once the game starts. There is nothing wrong with my comp, it works perfectly well when i play WoW. I formated my hardisk earlier this week. I was so looking forward to play 3v3 again after a long time. This is after i got a new connection, witch is really good. I really dont know what to do.

Sounds like a router problem. This happened to me on a regular basis before I opened ports 6112-6119.

sigh, i don't want to read a manual to learn how to do this, too much work, ill just stick to my 1v1's.

Its not hard to change the port that sc uses i think you can easly do it though choaslaucher under the settings tabs before the way i did it was though the regestry. But just change it to like 6113 or something also do you share a router? becuase then you defendtlly have to change the ports so you guys dont clash
|
OK, so I did everything on the guide. Once i get into my routers options and add those ports. I findt out they already have auto put up a whole bunch games and stuff. So i select starcraft, witch has ports 6112-6119 and 4000-4000. And i add WoW aswell, since i play it. and Bittorrent. since i figure its kinda logical, and me just beeing stupid enough to not check it out before. SO i go back, start BW and once i enter, like every move i do message like "waiting for response from battle.net" comes up. Cant do shit now! makes it worse. I've tried rebooting, and tried to put back on automatic ip on ip setup, cuz thats what the guide said I should do if somthing went wrong. Restarted comp again after that, still not working. Any TIPS?

No i dont share router, I have my own.

find the reset button on your router and use it. start over and just focus on getting sc working. you can fuck with bit torrent after that. if you made any registy changes unmake them. aftery you make and save changes power cycle the router before before checking to see if it worked. ive goten this to work with 2wire and dlink routers easily. If you have a dd-wrt based router you can get instructions here

If you don't share a router then why are you using one?
If nothing works, try the DMZ function (if your router supports it).

Maybe other people have had better luck than me, however, with my experience with netgear routers (and i mean strictly their routers, the switches are sexbombs), is that no matter how hard you try to port forward (and i'm a software developer, this stuff is engrained in my head so i'm not overlooking anything, trust me), StarCraft just doesn't fucking work. It's almost as if the router is opening the port but still doing something to stop it from completely working. Not only that, but the firmware is RIDDLED with spelling mistakes. Quality for the win? I just hate netgear, it can suck my balls and suck them again and more.

so i tried everything like that. Resetting router, trying again etc, not working still. Getting "Waiting for response from battle.net". Even WoW lags now. Put everything back now, works as before, execpt msn wont start for some wierd reason.

I have kind of the same problem too. I can play / host any game, with any number of players, but when my roommate tries to join the game it lags horribly until one of us leave. I already tried the DWORD Game data port file trick, but it didn't change anything. I use a Linksys router. Does anyone have a solution for me? Thanks

I think it stands for DeMilitarized Zone its a firewall config for LANs. By removing it all firewall protection would be gone. I would use only if necessary.

I might have the same problem as you, ThePhan2m. Right now I am getting internet through Nextgentel and have a speedtouch (don't remember the exact model) DSL modem/router. Even if I have the right port forward info in it, it will still give me problems in games with more than one opponent. The configuration thing for it is really simple and DMZ isn't an option. Looking through some forums online, I have found that it is a common problem that speedtouch, nextgentel and starcraft don't work well together. If you are getting internet through nextgentel and got the router through them, you might try calling their helpline and maybe arrange for them to send you a different brand router/modem. And try not to go too deeply into why, because they probably won't understand you.
Just be sure that you have tried it with the correct port forward configuration or with your computer in DMZ first or if your have a separate modem and router that you just plug your computer into the modem.
Right now I use VPN through my university to get around the problem.

Only use DMZ if you have a softwarefirewall on your computer. Because it disables the firewall features of the router.

So you set up a static IP and forwarded ports to that IP and it still wont work?

if you have tried rebooting router, loading defaults, upgrading firmware etc and still no luck, just connect direct to your modem when u need to play SC and get another router if u need it.

When it's not about port forwarding, it's usually a NAT problem i.e. your router is not doing NAT properly (wikipedia it if you want more info).
Most router have a nat loopback functionality that you can use through telnet. Something like you run "cmd" then telnet ipaddressofrouter You'll be ask for ID / pass then for mine it's something like: :ip config natloopback=enabled
Seems like the speedtouch are really crap at that kind of things. Hope that'll help

So how exactly to you enable NAT loopback functionality?
I typed in "telnet 192.168.1.1" and it told me it was not a valid internal or external command.

I'm not a router guru I just know enough to make mine work but still, trying to help: -what's your router? (brand, model) -are you sure you're routeur ip is 192.168.1.1 ?
On my router (a speedtouch 780 boxed by some ISP) I can: - Start button then "run..." in windows - Type in "cmd" and execute, a black window should open - There you type "telnet ipaddress of router" (for me: telnet 192.168.1.254) - It asks for id / pass (if you havent touch anything that should be administrator/administrator) - Then ":ipconfig natloopback=enabled" (you can try out the help functions to find the nat one... depend of the brand / model) - Then you save ":saveall" and "exit" - Reboot router and you're ready to go (you still need forward rules btw)
There are a few other commands that can help if this is not enough.
Some router don't accept telnet unfortunately (some DLink....), i'm afraid there's not much you can do about it (the only last chance solutions are trying to use fix IP and if your router has starcraft preset rules not using them but creating a new rule manually OR using DMZ i.e. you've got you're real IP address directly (but you can't have more than one comp on the internet at a time...))
|
Mine is a Netgear WPN824v2
So I opened up the command window, typed in "telnet 192.168.1.1" but it doesn't ask me for a id/password. If I put in a colon, it just moves to the next line. I'm 99% sure that 192.168.1.1 is my router IP. I use that to configure my portforward settings.
|
There's why my cmd window looks like.

try just typing the telnet command into the run box. if that doesnt work go into administrator mode... vista ftl

Tried it, again, doesn't recognize Telnet as a proper program.

Didn't know Telnet was removed from Vista...
I uploaded mine from Windows: Telnet (click) Hope it will work under Vista.
You can also google "telnet" to find other free clients (but possibly a little bit more complicated to use)

if you are using sympatico, go intenret connections create new connection enter your b1 username + password, the name of new connecion can be anything. Now make sure u have ur normla internet connection and "my new by default is called Broadband" probably bcus im DSL from sympatico. The game works normally and i can host, Each time u shut off modem, or restart your comp just re-connect this new connection and voila(its already been created it dont delete just turns off)
only for sympatico users using vista.
there is another way for xp, which is going into the modem picture and adding UDP and TCP ports 6112. ive never had to edit my firewall. adding ports to it did nothing. Best advice get rogers internet they are good for starcraft.
|
Legendzs what's Symptico?
So I looked at the telenet thingy and the problem i run into is doesn't recognize "telenet 192.168.1.1" as a valid command. When i type in "o 6112" it replies with a "Could not open connection to host, on port 23: Connect failed".
On my Netgear WPM824v2 router, I've enabled my IP as a DMZ server, Disabled the SPI firewall, and Respond to to ping on port and all of them have failed. I'm still trying to use google to find a cohesive guide on how to enable NAT functionality.
I'll post screenies if anyone wants this.
Btw, thanks for everyone for putting up with the common lag problem banter. It's the highest level (from a techinical standpoint) thread on opening ports I've seen, and I'd hate to cause Jellycat (great shirt btw) a trouble that amounts to nothing.

Anyways, from : here
By default, Vista doesn't install the Telnet client. The client is for text-based communication with remote systems. You can install it by following these steps:
1. Click Start then select Control Panel.
2. Select Programs and Features.
3. Select Turn Windows features on or off.
4. Select the Telnet Client option.
5. Click OK.
6. A dialog box will appear to confirm installation. The telnet command should now be available.
