I'm not sure new content for StarCraft is great for Broodwar in general because either they risk ruining what we already have gameplay wise or they kill the ASL as Afreeca go chasing after the new StarCraft game. It'll be the birth of SC2 all over again.

if they do touch gameplay ideally it should just be adding stuff mapmakers can use imo

I don't think it was mentioned there yet. The website is having augmented reality elements added to it. There were some log messages already yesterday, but now there are even more animations with "Incoming transmission...".

Subsourian has been keeping track of the hints. His post from yesterday.

How is that a 2 race RTS at the highest level?

You have to be trolling/rage baiting.

post total earning by race in broodwar since 90's and you will probably see if it's "balanced" and by how much.

So if I make a 1M $ winner takes all tournament and only invite players from 1 race I can make Starcraft (im)balanced?
Most of what Starcraft players have made over the years (e.g. earnings) come from team salaries and now stream donations. Given how popular Rain, Britney and Shuttle are, I wouldn´t be shocked if that ends up being Protoss favored, at least for the modern streaming age...
How is earnings a better balance indicator than winrates?

I am talking tournament winnings. and variation will occur with any statistics. well for once, you make assumtions such as:
1) all top players competed (if there is money usually there are players)
2) 1 data point in a huge data set means nothing.

Nobody competes in any of these tournaments for money, see my point of most of their money coming from salary/streaming.
What about the intel gomtv classic? Kespa pulled teams out towards the end, regardless of prize money. Same goes for when SPOTV tried to run a Starleague a couple years back, TBLS didn´t participate regardless of how much money was up for grabs. Flash also dodged KSL for its entirety.
Proleague didn´t even pay players directly, yet it was the main focus of practice during that era.
You also dodged my question, why not use winrate in top level tournaments over prize money earned?
Starcraft also has crazy top heavy prize pools, so you might as well use championships anyway.

I did not dodge any question but ok I will answer your "question", it is trivially obvious but ok I will say it.

Because with as simple metric as "prizepool" you have a way to decide what is a top tournament and what is not. Any other metric you would consider would be bias.

I don't see why one should consider team leagues as anything more than noise, since your statistics won't be independent anymore, but that is another discussion.

I am confused. Now the metric is prizepool? What happened to prize money earned? I thought your simple metric was to sum up prize money earned by each race. Are we now only including tournaments with a high enough prize pool? I suppose the answer to these questions is also so self evident that you can't be bothered to spell it out.

I don't think anyone would have trouble deciding what a top tier BW tournament is at any point in time. This isn't Starcraft 2 in 2011/2012 with a different tourney every other weekend. There used to be OSL and MSL. Now there is ASL, we also had KSL for a bit. The only other league that was full of top tier players was proleague, thats it. But sure lets only take tournaments with 10k+ for first place. Oh wait those are the same tournaments I just listed, what a shocker.

If you think proleague was noise, than there is not much point in having a discussion with you about anything related to BW to begin with anyway.
Your argument for prize money was that it would attract all the best players. You do realize that all of these players prioritized proleague over any individual tournament? Why would you not count the tournament all the top players played in every single week and put their entire focus into?

By all means go ahead and collect your data on prize money earned by race and present them. But oh wait you won't do that, you will just continue to declare Protoss to be too weak as self evident and attack any evidence presented to you as being the wrong measurement.

Fun fact about your sick metric btw: Gamers 8 had the same prize pool as any given ASL. No one in their right mind would value data from that show match event with 4 players equal to data from any given ASL but hey you do you buddy. Protoss also took 40% of the prize pool, while having a 0% win rate at that event.

proleague, where pros make more money than ASL, Mini is at #1

very out of date, but UBE prize money winnings BeSt leads at #1

I dont think proleague matches incomes should be looked at from balance point of view for reasons below:
- teams are rewarded, not individual players
- team with Shuttle starts with lower odds to win money (statistically)
- players don't have the time to prepare for the matches (i suppose this argument is subjective)

While daily proleague could be considered the main source of income, the prestige from doing well in ASL transitions into higher popularity / bigger donations on streams later on.

IDK why y'all are talking about proleague when everything reporters have been saying about the announcement at BlizzCon points to a spin off, likely non-RTS, game in the StarCraft universe very likely to be a shooter

People hope there's a new RTS coming too but like, none of this is proleague related lol

Just saying it's super off topic.

There are also individual stats for proleagues.

According to this site https://broleague.site/players, which takes data from eloboard.

For current and frequent players winrates:

1. Snow 61.4 %
2. Light 60.3 %
3. Soma 56.9 %
4. Mini 56.2 %
5. Effort 55.9 %

Flash while played had 70%, Rain 61%

yeah my b

i just don't want BW to be balance patched, imagine blizzard ruins the balance then eventually abandons the game again, and we are stuck in an unbalanced meta

everything has been the same for 20 years, IMO we should just keep things as it is, because with maps we already have a way to balance things:
making more maps like apocalypse/radeon, where all matchups are close to 50% across the board

and if we need to tilt things in a race's favor, we can just copy features of these maps to create newer maps:
-fastest map & odyssey RE first version(10 mineral stack, no hallucin mineral walls, lots of proxy build space in middle) - protoss sagi map
-backrooms 1.0/ octagon 1.0 - terran sagi map
-colorless fate - zerg sagi map

if things ever got truly truly dire 10 or 20 years down the line it would be possible for the tournament scene to use ums maps that change stats anyway

Yeah, I wonder what the premise of this is going to be.

Because its doubtfult they'd make a shooter that would step on the toes of Overwatch. And there was a job opening for someone doing vehicular physics.

So people are speculating its going to be a helldivers 2 type of game. I heard some people say it might be a Destiny style looter-shooter thing.

When I hear vehicles I think about battlefield, so that could be something too.

I think there is not enough shooter games; we clearly need one more on the market.

As I said, 1 point in a dataset does not skew the entire statistics, I hope you can google by now what is the difference between outliers (i.e. counterexamples that you keep throwing, which mean nothing), and meaningful conclusion based on statistics.
There is not much to argue about since you want to put on equal footing tournaments that obey dependent and independent variables.

I said what I had to say.

I don't want to convince anyone about anything.

I read somewhere that Blizzard is rumored to sell the IP rights of StarCraft to a South Korean gaming company called Nexon. Just wanna point out that I believe this rumor to be likely for the reason that it makes sense. The profitability globally for a new RTS game is not that high but in S.Korea it's another story with how popular SC1 still is in PC bangs, they could totally sell the rights for a SC2 Sequel to a more locally produced version while Blizzard makes what the global audience wants, which is more of a shooter game. So both rumors could be true we could get both a SC shooter and a SC3.

Because, the whole reason for the exodus of Blizzard staff from Team 1 over the last decade is because the suits don't desire to make new RTS games. Plus theres reporting from Jason Schrerier that they've been working on a shooter.
