[24H] mmr bot on USWest

Hi, I am the author of the bot on US west that people have been able to spot in the past day or two.

I wrote the bot from scratch in the past 4 days, it's still a bit buggy at the moment, not sure how many scaling we want to do at the moment. or what exactly the plan is, it's in beta since today, been updating the code to make it more stable. and sporadically putting it up for testing every now and then.

we planning to get an actual domain.

The long story short is that clan 24H on uswest, which I am part of. Have asked if anyone can write a bot, because the EU MMR bot is nice. But we have tried to ask the author of EU bot to get copy hosted on US west with no answer. Finally we decided to do it our own.

The bot will first provide our internal use on demand.
When it's free or it have extra capacity it will be on the public server.

I do not have plan to let others hosting the bot at the moment as I don't want to share the code at the moment, but you can leave request if you are interested.


Something I have in mind is to setup discord, so people can get direct invite and have a match making system on discord, where bot will invite people directly if the demands are met before making the game public.

This will allow easier data processing, currently the bot relies on buggy OCR(image to text) detection on screen for bulk of the user recognition, which has been shown to be inconsistent in some cases.

And nothing is set in stone yet, clan members maybe hosting the bot on their spare machine too. The gist is a bot needs a machine / VM right now, regarding to VM , or having more than 1 or 2 bot on from a single LAN environment seems to be causing system instability. Most likely will be resolved by port forwarding to mac address. That's about as much information as I can tell at the moment.

02/09/2023 Update:

02/10/2023 Update:
Short name kick are disabled, since system have been stablized, it should be relatively easy to catch up on those now.

Add bot as a friend, catch it easier!

2/12/2023 Update:
Letter ranks are now calculated on homepage!
The site https://24hbwmmrbot.azurewebsites.net/dashboard/3v3 has been upgraded to use caching ,so the data can be anywhere from 0~10 minutes lagged behind real time data depending on when did you get to see the site. But once the site loads the first time for any user, they can freely browse the site without lagging issue. Also, come to see your letter rank!! S/A/B/C/D/E are calculate on profile page now, they will soon be displayed on main ranking page too once we get our hands on the art assets.

You can find the bot hosting either 2v2 3v3 4v4 BGH map games on US west server at random times, It's coming online more and more since it's getting more stable and fixes.

The current known issues are:

Due to my laziness and how fast we got it working from scratch, it is not the most responsive bot you can find it out there.
Currently it checks the lobby every 10 seconds or so to take an action. So be patient with me for this part until I make further improvement on the logic.

When it's going private mode, only people who are in the clan or friends who are bot's friend list can join, that's usually when the clan members are online and demand private rated match. Other than that I am trying to throw the bot up as much as I can right now.

Yes the replays are all saved so far, it's currently hosted on azure, there will be plan to make player profile page on the site, and match history, and match page.

But we have not got around to make those part of the project yet. So yes, replays will definitely be able to download.

Yes, that's correct. All you gotta do is join the pub games

Whatever ID you use in game, the actual MMR calculation is consistent.

The only issue is sometime in the lobby , the text to image software may not match you with the right player in the database, so the auto balancing might be a bit funky from time to time. Otherwise it works pretty good

As of latest update, I've added illegal name check, and the first rule is the bot doesn't allow barcode users. As it has issue detecting such user name in the lobby and can cause unfriendly game experience.

edit: it would be nice to have a proper version of bgh with good main base gas and mineral mining tho, for a map that's this popular/old it's weird that we still don't have a modern version of it :D

On repmastered.app, "Big Game Hunters" has 191 variations (exact name match)!

You can view images of all, and you can download each variation (at the bottom in the Variations table).

But I believe majority of BGH players prefer the original one (that's by far the most played one). The BGHMmr bot on EU also uses the original version.

Something you could likely do to avoid any OCR (at least for managing the lobby, not sure that it would help for anything you may do with the score screen) is modify the HTML/JS used to render lobbies to report things to some locally running server. To do that you need to set a registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Starcraft\


Set a DWORD key "Allow Local Files" to 1

Having done that you can replace any files in the game's CASC (browse this with CascView) by putting them in:

<StarCraft Dir>\<Path In CASC>


So you could e.g. extract the game lobby JS, modify it to also report stuff to your bot program, and place it in

Please don’t use any updated version of bgh. The original is perfect and I’m sure many people would not be happy with some of those new versions. Especially the ones with cliffs removed.

?? what cliffs, im only talking about updating the mineral positioning for each base so they mine and return their cargo without doing zigzags all over the map

there's a million shitty versions of them already :D

Unlucky TT1, seems like it got re hosted 2 times for you.

I am adding some logic it should wait for a bit longer if there are close to enough players.

Just gotta make sure bot is not in the player area before I make that change :D as sometime it glitch itself in the player area. So I am make it easy to make sure lobbies are re hosted every 5 minutes to avoid extreme long waiting time when something is bugged out. You know what they say how to fix windows right? Did you restart your windows?

Yup, during peak NA night hours and Asia night hours it fills up pretty fast.

If I can get this to work on more host machines, might be able to support some FS 2v2 too. It's able to do so already, just a matter of getting enough hosting machines, I am trying to see if I can host the bot on VMs.

Okay, in that sense, the only thing I am interested in modifying is that 5clock terran can siege tank and hit 3 clock expo. Other than that, I think leaving the cliffs up is fine. Personally I kinda hate it, but old me love it. :D I used to be that guy 1 fact tank drop cliff every game.

There are lots of imbalances on the map, you just mentioned one. We know them, and we love the map as it is. BGH isn't about balanced 1v1 ladder game (you have plenty of fine maps for that). Don't mess with this forever green map.

Are there any differences between this mmrbot and the mmrbot on Euro that players should be aware of?

Euro bot doesn't count games under 5min. Is this rule applied here or no?

Euro bot doesn't count games where someone leaves under 3min. Is this rule applied here or no?

Euro bot counts it as a win to a player who is killed and eliminated from the game as long as his allies end up winning the game. Is this rule applied here or no?

Euro bot drops players off if they haven't played a game with the bot in the last 30 days (they get their old points back though as soon as they play a game). Is this rule applied here or no?

Euro bot bans for backstabbing / BM. Is this rule applied here or no?

5 can hit 3 main+nat and 6 nat.

6 main can hit 5 nat.

12 can hit 1 nat and 11 nat.

9 main can hit 11 nat.

7 nat can hit 9 nat.

6 nat can hit center and 7 nat.

Plenty of imbalances and it doesnt make sense fixing one. BGH is inherently imbalanced and the only way to get it balanced would be a fastest map setup where everyones terrain looks the same. This would make it a P favored map by far (BGH already is as is) and boring, the imbalance is half the fun.

Answer: No, I have not accounted anything here, but there is function as you can see how long ago the player has played last game on the site.

Answer: For this one, it may get some attention here, if it becomes a nightmare to manage, then I might just pull it off of public access and keep it private, all of that requires human time and attention, I want to keep it simple as it is right now.

So for this particular part, you are welcome to report back stabbers here, and I can manually ban the player. Hopefully the community is mature enough to understand some of these things. And I do understand occasionally there are always a few bad eggs here and there, humans eh? :D

There are lots of imbalances on the map, you just mentioned one. We know them, and we love the map as it is. BGH isn't about balanced 1v1 ladder game (you have plenty of fine maps for that). Don't mess with this forever green map.



After hearing about these different things I think your suggestion may be the best for a pub game where people just throw shenanigans at each others for fun.

The bot works great from the games that I’ve played. Although one thing is slightly frustrating about it and that is when an obvious lagger is in the lobby and refuses to leave. The bot seems to not know how to detect or deal with a lagger. I’ve had a few games or lobbies ruined by this. Could there be some vote to kick option? But I can see even that being abused unfortunately

Its funny u think modify 3oclock expo is more important than 5oclock siege tank can hit 3oclock's main gas and 1 mineral patch.

Additionally 6 can hit 5 expo. 9 can hit 11 expo. 12 can hit 1 expo.

I am not the most knowledgeable BGH player out there. After consulting with bunch of ppl , I think leaving it as it is is what I am going to go with. Perfect way to wind down the day with some BGH shenanigan in a pub game.

Besides there will be season system, to reset MMR and possibly rotate in variation of BGH maps if things goes well. We will see.

i think there should be several different ranges tbh, it sucks when there's 4 high level players with 2 lower lvl players in the game, makes for very uneven matches

although if there's not enough players you run into the problem of having to wait way too long for a game

There are usually 1~2 bot running games that are below 1650, just unlucky they got bugged out this afternoon while I went to sleep, the min MMR game lobby is only 1 that didn't get bugged out today :D still fixing everytime some kind of issue comes up, so theres that.

TT1 might be hard to recognize by OCR, but if you play in one of the normal lobby today, it should 90% time fix the recognition issue. If not contact me here, I will take a look and manually get you fixed up. The only reason I am confident putting up 1650 lobby is due to the system's name recognition got way better ( after you play 1 game in non 1650 lobbies )

The system should upgrade your name recognition to the new system.

When the name is too short it adds a bit complication to the system to correlate a user's ID in lobby to actual ID in game.

So sometime it messes up the whole balancing due to unrecognized names. That's why I have restricted it to not let short name user join the game. But however, people can contact me here, and I will set up "office hour" to scan people's ID in a lobby, and that will white list the user to play.

i saw the part about the bot detects users by using an image/screengrab. not sure if this is useful but the bot has trouble figuring out between a capital "i" and lowercase L. Iegend vs Legend (capital "i" vs. L). just figured I'd throw it out there. Really cool bot btw

I don't really get why you're bothering with OCR for this stuff, it just seems like an inherently flawed approach. You can copy the text out of lobby chat very easily, why don't you select the whole chat contents (ctrl+a) and copy it and read the names out of that?

Duh, brilliant idea. I feel kinda stupid to not think about it. I didn’t want to change any blizzard files or say registry key. But this copy paste is nice. But my system already can get the information needed now. The copy paste still wouldn’t resolve which exact spoofer is on which player slot.

Some top players abuse by canceling when they see unfavorable teams.

Also... new accounts are a problem. I think the 50 game requirement from EU is good for that reason.

I think the requirement of 50 wins was overkill. I hadn't played bw in a long ass time and I have very little time these days and it took me fricken ages on euro to get 50 wins. It makes it inaccessible to returning players.

Maybe like 20-30 total games played to stop instant random smurfs or something, but 50 wins is a bit much IMO.

Also, it would be nice if you could see a players record not just win%. It's a nice thing to look at IMO. And seeing game length would be cool to know which reps to download if you want to watch some.

Lastly, how many bots do you currently have and how quickly do they fill up? I haven't been on lately but do you need any type of support in getting more bots up if there is demand for it? I'm sure people, myself included, would chip in if you needed to buy some more accounts with bw.

Yes, the top player leave if they have bad player in their team. I thought it's free to play SC (Remastered need to pay).
I don't mind noob in my team but some don't even know how to play. Put some effort in learn the 25yrs old game first before ruin someone else' game.
For new account make them join game vs. computer(s) to earn MMR, first before playing 3v3.

I don't really blame them, the system heavily punish them for being top rank. So leaving when it's a huge gamble is logical thing to do.

It's still just an issue of not enough higher rank player gets into Gosu lobby at same time, if they are all in the gosu lobby I doubt they would want to leave

Imagine you are 2800 and being paird with 2 1500, and the opposing team has 2 guys 2500+

Yeah, I'll have to think about that one, and honestly this check is not on my list to do. And the current batch of feature is what I would consider almost "complete"

Might do lag checking on a basic level, maybe if I have time. Generally if game lags currently people leave and rejoin, the lager usually don't come back, cause they know they are lagging.

I can relate to that, but one thing might be worth doing is create lobby that are below 1400 or 1600 or something like that.

So newer player can have a safer play ground. Everyone starts somewhere right?

2/12/2023 Update:
The site https://24hbwmmrbot.azurewebsites.net/dashboard/3v3 has been upgraded to use caching ,so the data can be anywhere from 0~10 minutes lagged behind real time data depending on when did you get to see the site. But once the site loads the first time for any user, they can freely browse the site without lagging issue. Also, come to see your letter rank!! S/A/B/C/D/E are calculate on profile page now, they will soon be displayed on main ranking page too once we get our hands on the art assets.

I agree with what you are saying here, my thought was that if people start filling up the GoSu lobby ,it will not be as much variance and unpredictability goes into the game, people would stop leaving and such.

However, the 1650+ lobby rarely getting used so far.

So it's in a weird state. If you are high mmr, and gets 2 1500 or so players, you are kind of screwed. On the other hand ,repeatedly leaving is stupid AF I totally agree. Not really sure what to do here about this one tbh.

I think one solution I can think of is mmr diff close running away gives - say 10 minute time out. If mmr diff is really large say 1000+ between 2 team leaving is not punished? But it gets complicated with people in game. I can’t know if people left for lag or some other reason.

Game length should be available after the matches from this afternoon and on ward. I don't have plan to fix the games that have already been played so far, it's a bit of hassle to do it.

Aside from that, I think you can expect a bit more detailed player's record in the works.

I'll think about putting up patron/donation. There isn't any extra benefit I plan to have for those who donate/sub on patron currently, but it's greatly appreciated if you choose to do so, but it is not necessary.

I am currently running 3~4 bots, 3 bots at least for any given time.

At least 1 public normal, 1 public gosu lobby. the other bot might be turned into private ladder lobby at our clan's peak hours. This private ladder has it separate rating does not affect public ladder.

The 4th bot would come online when I am not doing anything on my main PC, namely when I am sleeping and such, running a normal lobby.


It would be nice to scale it up, but I don't have any plan to invest in that right now.

I think at a later time when I get a chance, will probably find a way to address this issue, but not at the moment. Not any time soon, as it has been hell of a 12 day marathon writing the bot from scratch and getting it to the current state. I have been both mentally and physically exhausted at the moment. I have recovered mostly by now, but I do want to work on some other project for the time being for my personal priority and other things.

I really appreciate the support from you all. And I want to say, what you are experiencing that's not right and that's not fair. I've heard you. But I don't have the time and resources to get that fixed right away at the moment. sorry about that.

I know the biggest abuser of this is MarinE-Pang, I've seen many people complain about him and what he does. I certainly don't like what he does, but it's the systems fault punishing high ranking players to force them into that position in the first place. So it should be the system that gets fixed, not the player should be punished. But like I said, I don't have the time and energy to get it fixed right away at the moment.

Nothing to be worried about, it was caused by my manual intervention when I changed the post calculation code, and when I had test code that trigger manual update to force team 1 win.

That code has been removed now, so it wouldn't have any affect going forward. Was a silly testing code I had ;(

Yeah, I cannot do anything to change it now, but can definitely buy you a coffee or beer of your choice.... if we ever cross path IRL. :D

There seems to be a bug.

Current #1 is pjc55104955 who only has 2 games (2 wins). Delta MMRs are +184 and +154, and currently he has 4436 MMR, way above the #2 (having MMR 3017).

That is fixed now.

It had to do some change I had in past 2 days.
Some corner super edge case that had about 30 user that can trigger this sort of behavior. It’s all fixed and handled now. Data is consistent now in term of rating. The player stats for some of these player maybe off. But that’s minor and does not affect system as a whole in anyway.

Any plans to deal with new accounts?

I think they're the biggest problem right now.

Perhaps if that is fixed, the top player's won't leave abuse as much.

2 things that would help are:

1) Minimum games, to reduce the 1500 players

2) Generate a MMR for new players based on their wins and games played.

e.g. ruleset:
50 game minimum to play
New player starting MMR is 800 to 1800 based on their account's win rate where a 50-0 player would be at 1800 and a 0-50 player would be at 800 and a 25-25 player would be 1300
Give 10 bonus MMR per 50 games on the account
Cap starting MMR at 2000

can you de-active cancel game when a player in game waiting? re-active when everyone leaves the game. Sometime the game almost full players the timer comes and cancel game and the waiting game again.

Setting up Gosu lobby later more when players are more used to the ladder games. I throw it up on Monday, 0 gosu lobby game played, it was such a low usage(0%) I decided to just not put it up for a while.

Gosu lobby bar currently set to 1650, but will probably higher given the general user base MMR has increased a lot since this number was last set.

It should be in a good state for this now, I set it to if it is less than 2 people to expected player. so in 3v3 4/6, it will not rehost, rather keep waiting until that number dips below.

Amazing work. Your bot is really helping to bring some more life back into the scene, thanks again man.

One thing that would be nice IMO is if when people join games if alongside their mmr we could see their record. I think sometimes its nice to know if someone's mmr is based on 4 games or 40 games. Seems like helpful information.

Actually the more info you get the more reason you have to leave. Only rank/rating should be shown.

If beginners are suppose to become better they need to blend with better players. Having score revealing that will encourage canceling games.

The old days noone cared about stats until stats were implemented.

Yeah I've had other people asking similar question too, right now there is no plan to change any of these, but in the future we might consider things such as factor in the win rate and number of games at lower rank when balancing the game, showing stats may not be the best idea as people might just want to leave.

Agreed, as I've mentioned in the future we might consider things such as factor in the win rate and number of games at lower rank when balancing the game, showing stats may not be the best idea as people might just want to leave.

How do you find all reps from BGHmmr and 24H on the site? Is it possible to tag these games? It would be nice to be able to find just those games, i guess i could look for the ingame bot if the replays record observer slots.

That's a great suggestion, however, until these bots are actually moved into a cloud server in the future if they do, I would probably do something like that. Right now I do not feel comfortable making such post request on my end.

Currently this is not possible, I might add this feature in the future.

Note however that if you log in, you can manually tag games and list only tagged games. But this is a manual process, not automatic.

Changed one of the general lobby to one of the Gosu lobby 2000+ gosu lobby. And I'll monitor the usage and see how it goes over the next day or two. If it gets used a lot it will stay up more.

Agreed. But keep in mind the bot has only been live for over a month. With time, the ranks will eventually catch up with skill level of the players. IMO once S ranked players averages 3500, we can introduce a gosu room for 2000+ mmr players.

Agreed. But keep in mind the bot has only been live for over a month. With time, the ranks will eventually catch up with skill level of the players. IMO once S ranked players averages 3500, we can introduce a gosu room for 2000+ mmr players.



Hes saying that smurfs ruin the game. To remove smurfs you need a minimum amount of games.

Ah…I see. I still think 2000+ mmr gosu room will help alleviate this pain, if not eliminate it. MMR decay might help too.

Currently all the replay on the ladder page is hosted on Azure Blob Storage service.

There's no API, but uploading a replay is nothing more than a simple HTTP form POST. All programming languages support "mimicing" a form POST. You can also upload multiple replays with a single POST. The result is an HTML document holding the links to games of the uploaded replays.

Also note that uploading an existing replay causes no harm: you get back the link to the game page. If someone else already uploaded his replay of the same game, that is also not a problem: repmastered.app detects if multiple replays of the same game are uploaded and are "grouped" into a single game. You can select, analyze and download each replay individually. As an example here's a game I played with your bot and uploaded my replay, then I also downloaded the replay of my game from your site (saved by the bot): https://repmastered.app/game/mhj4Dl-ROtYZe4M-LZo7NMvkLi4Ai59fhAyEGM8oCVE

How do you find all reps from BGHmmr and 24H on the site? Is it possible to tag these games? It would be nice to be able to find just those games, i guess i could look for the ingame bot if the replays record observer slots.

It is a shame that the 24H Bot is closed, it was a balanced way to play 3v3, I hope it will be reactivated with another format, for example a single Bot so that there are not too many left over.

I agree, the bot was fun to use when we could get a couple decent players together for in-house games where it could be legitimately used as a ranking system and fair games.

Sadly, I feel like not enough people liked it. This is because too many people like to feel powerful with lopsided stacks. Playing on a balanced game offered a quick dose of reality for a lot of folks and they do not like it. I wish we continued to have an objective measure of skill that the bot offered.

I know it’s not perfect but it was a much better alternative for solo players than just random hosted games that are often stacked

Quite the difference in culture EU vs WE, in WE many players seem to think playing the game in x2 speed is better. Way too many games with x2 and upwards which kinda indicates the skill level of the player base which is newbie.

Also its very hard to find a game with TR16 or higher that doesnt lag. Without proper micro no game is fun when you become more skillful. This is the reason TR16 is set (no DTR) on EU bots and why EU bot games becomes fun, because skillful players can utilize micro to their advantage to improve their rating even further.

Going from TR16/Low to TR12/Xhigh is an insane jump in game quality, and TR16/Xhigh is still microable (like TR12/Low).

What the bot owner needs to do is copy pasta the EU bot, at least in terms of the lobby creation and mechanics (messages and so on) to make it as similar to EU bot as possible as it has had success and im sure because reasons. If this wouldnt be the case then its the WE player base fault that just doesnt approve a bot. Maybe because of lag (too many in Murica with poor con?) or just the diversity of players like i said, many games are x2 speed and thats just not playable from a skillful players point of view.

This comes from a EU player that tries at times to play WE games but its seemingly impossible.

I hope to get some help from you in obtaining the player ID information from the game lobby, and, if possible, further access to the player IDs and other resource information in the upper-right corner area in OB (Observer) mode.

I’m a StarCraft: Remastered (SC:R) commentator and streamer, primarily broadcasting BGH (Big Game Hunters) matches. I’ve created a live overlay that displays player names, resource counts, APM, and other details. Currently, this information is captured using OCR (Optical Character Recognition), but the accuracy is quite low, which has been a major frustration for me.

I’ve built a database that maps player IDs to their in-game nicknames. The idea is to recognize the player IDs from the upper-right corner of the spectator interface and then match them against the database to display the correct nicknames on my overlay. However, the OCR process has been a huge headache. Even with a custom-trained recognition model, the results are still far from ideal.

The biggest issue is that when a player’s ID is short, the OCR detection area extends beyond the ID region and picks up text from the chat box, leading to severe recognition errors (often returning gibberish). I’ve tried adjusting various recognition thresholds, but nothing has fully resolved this problem.

Since your bot program seems to accurately retrieve this information, I’d really appreciate your help and guidance on how to achieve this. I sincerely hope to learn from you. Thank you so much!

Just FYI, any UIs that are rendered via CEF (which includes all the bnet UIs and the observer UIs) get their data from a webserver the game runs, so you can connect to it and get that data as well. The port for the server is randomized each launch, a command for getting the current port is in this repo: https://github.com/evanandrewrose/bw-web-api?tab=readme-ov-file#starcraft-port

If you download CascView you can open the game files and check out the webui folder to see the various HTML files that connect/read this data to figure out what you need to do.
