I am sad to announce that SouL Gaming's Castro has passed away. Initial reports on his FB from close friends and family say it was an epileptic seizure, while he slept. I really am for a loss for words and I felt the Brood War community should know. I will update the OP as much as I can. I'm looking at setting up some sort of Go Fund Me for him, he leaves behind a wife and daughter. Good bye my friend, you will be missed.
I have added a small replay pack, which includes, various Clan Leagues and BSL games, I put his wins as well as losses. I made the decision because, his play should be celebrated regardless of the result.
I remember watching Castro in the old days during the dark times! Thanks for bringing us your spirit and passion for the game. Rest in peace. o7 Best wishes to his family and daughter.
I think the Go Fund Me page is going to help immensely his little daughter and wife in this hard time they are going through. Castro's economical situation was unstable due to the covid-19 crisis, I heard from Fenix that the donations Castro received through his daily Starcraft live streams were an important part of his income. Castro was the breadwinner of his family. So, on top of the sadness of losing a loved one, his wife now has to struggle with the funeral costs.
People like him and InControl I wish took better care of their health... Being a pro gamer is tough, and unfortunatly it isn't the best for your health either... it just seems like any day nick and sean can have the same fate on any day as their health also seems to be detereorating over time.
Rest in piece castro. I remember him from old times.

This shit is really tasteless. Geoff died from blood clot which can take pretty much anyone, and Castro's cause of death is not wildly publicised. So its not exactly ill health. But moreover even if it is, that ain't none of your business. You ain't their GP.
I have dedicated my stream to play Castro reps I found on youtube. This will continue for about a week. All donations received will go towards the go fund me. And I have a bot going every 15 minutes to direct people to this page and the go fund me. I hope this help!
RiP to the man! And seeing that he had a harsh epilepsy, if seems safe to say that by dying he is not deprived of the pleasures of living, rather that by death he is saved from the various torments of life.

Awesome, Herb! I will donate when i get home from vacation. Rest in peace, Castro❤

I'm sorry but how is being obese "good for your health" ? You don't need to be a GP to understand that.
Damn it, i didn't even know Castro well, we've played a few ladder games and maybe a clan war in the past, but i just got extremely sad by this news. Reality hits harder than anything else, may he rest in peace, gg's comrade!

I think what he's trying to say is that it's not in good taste to blame someone who just died for their own death in a place that people are coming to mourn for them and share their condolences. You're welcome to your own opinions, but please try to think about others' feelings when it comes to when and where you are sharing them.
While, I didn't personally know him, I saw him around few times and many of my gamer friends knew him well as we had a small gaming community back in our hometown from the days of Brood War, CS 1.6 and Gunbound.
Thanks to all who are helping by fundraising including: OP, and streamers from our community like Fenix, OliPatrick, and Ultra.
Fenix has shared a touching video with Castro's daughter thanking the starcraft community for all the support
The latin american top streamers have really done great work in gathering the community's support, there have been over $3500 in donations there I believe
Lets hope CastrO's family know what they're getting into by affiliating themselves with Fenix. I don't like the guy but if he's helping them out of the "kindness of his heart".. good on him. I'm skeptical tho, time will tell.
I went to his Facebook page and everything is about donations to his bank account or something? If you're donating make sure that the family is getting the money, ask for proof.

Yeah he posted proof of transfers he made
every cent should be accounted for and people close to CastrO should stay in contact with his wife

Don't be like that man, He's sharing all the information of all the donations made and has already transferred the money to CastrO's wife. The guy didn't even want to play that role, it just happened to be like that, the news hit him when he was streaming yesterday, he decided to support the family, personally called CastrO's wife and his viewers wanted to help too, so they started donating to Fenix's bank accounts given that CastrO's wife did not even have a bank account to receive the money directly, just today she opened one, and Fenix transferred everything the people has donated so far.
If you have a personal issue with Fenix, then it's your thing, but what the hell were you thinking when you decided to type that crap in this thread, suggesting that Fenix could steal the money just because you don't like him, fuck off. You got shit for brains or something? It's a sad moment for the community, people are trying to do all they can to help the widow, and in this kind of moments it shows how much solidarity there is in this part of the world, people can give everything they have to help others in need. People that did not even have a good relationship with CastrO are doing all they can to help. So how about thinking a little bit before posting?

Preventing something bad from happening is better than reacting to it afterwards, he stole money from me in the past. We agreed to a prize split and he kept the money afterwards (2.5k), his justification was that his english was weak and he didn't understand what we agreed to. I had no proof of anything other than a handshake and his word so i couldn't really make a case.
I was on the same team as him (Fnatic) in SC2 and lived with him for months in a team house prior to that, so i viewed him as a friend/trusted him (naivety on my end tbh). We spoke english together every day btw. I shared the story 9 years ago (on TL) and a lot of credible people within the SC2 community can back me up on it, assuming you don't wanna take my word for it (i have nothing to gain here). I moved on and learned from my mistake, maybe he's a different person now but regardless of that i will never be on good terms with him. Anyways, i view it as karma for betraying the trust of people back when i maphacked. That entire Fenix situation is a life lesson that made me value/appreciate trust even more, so i'm thankful for that.
My only concern is the well being of the mother and daughter because they're in a vulnerable position. Anyways, i brought the issue up with someone trustworthy within the PE community. Ultimately we all want the same thing, the family to be safe/supported.
Take your own advice, don't post if you don't know what you're talking about. My life experiences with Fenix give me the right to be skeptical of his actions until proven otherwise. Like i said, i hope he's doing this out of goodness but him controlling bank accounts/taking direct deposits and such is a bit fishy. There's better ways of doing this (with more visibility etc.) so that the family has direct access to the money.

Well, you are misinformed, Fenix has been active for some months now(like 4 months or so). It's not like he came out of the blue just for this situation. And I kind of understand that you can be skeptical knowing now what happened to you, but this situation is very different because the context is much more severe, a person has just past away and everything just happened the way I mentioned you, I don't really believe that Fenix wants anything to do with the money that came out of the kindness of the people, especially if he's being as transparent as he can in this process. Additionally, nobody is so dumb to steal in front of thousands.

RIP man, I still remember playing him long long long long time ago on WGT when it was still a thing. A great zerg player, and I was nervous playing against him.

I actually thought about whether or not i should post the story, ultimately i felt like it would be irresponsible not to (to make sure the family ends up being safe, it's the very least i could do). I'm only talking about this for better visibility/added accountability so the family gets full support, just to limit the risk. That's the power of strong online communities, we can help limit shitty things from happening by being honest and upfront.
Something terrible just happened to them during a terrible time, the least we could do as a community is offer them safety/support. I grew up/was teammates, practiced and competed against Castro dating back to like ~2006. It hurts when you see someone that you have childhood memories of go (especially because he was also an active player, i practiced with him for BSL8/BSL9 which makes it feel even more surreal).
But i'm also sorry for derailing the thread, at the end of the day this isn't any of my business. Apparently he spoke to Castro's wife and she was ok with everything. Hopefully things will get brighter/easier for them in the years ahead, condolences once again.

No offense but i think its way worse working at an office. Progamers perform at their best level if they work out meanwhile. Make this idiotspeech in front of truckers instead Looks like u've been living under a rock for the last 10years
So many times I raped you zvz, and likewise. Eliminated me from TSL, I will never forget. So many good times in [LighT]. Happiest, most annoying peruvian ever, you will be remembered.

To put a button in this. and I'm loathe to restate this: You placed a clear negative emphasis on Castro's and Incontrol's health. My central argument, ill health or not, it's none of your fucking business.
Write down your speculation about how Nick or Sean might die any day now in a book, and throw it off a cliff, into the ocean. To round it out: coming into a thread full of RIP's and memorials and being like "well actually the real tragedy is unhealthy lifestyles" is gross and disgusting.
May he rest in peace. I wish for a good future for his family. Just found out today, I had not followed TL for a while.
And the call for progamers (and everyone for that matter) to look after their health isn't entirely in bad taste, it's one of those sad facts of life that we can be surprisingly brittle sometimes. Nobody says anyone neglected anything, it's just a memento for the rest of us to take care as stress can quickly wear us down. May this be the last news of this kind we receive for a very, very long time.
