Download: Protoss v0.75 (With observers) Terran v0.85 (With observers) Zerg
I've almost finished tweaking ums for training, that I've posted early in one of the threads. It appears to be good, but now I need your opinion, tlneters.
goal is plain:
- control probe/scv - kill zerg - save civilian - don't exceed 500 minerals - do it in time
Do not cheat of course. Don't use shift-queue for scout. Do not waste your minerals if you close to overflow with it. I can't say how good ums for protoss. Terran's ums seems to be ok. What about Zerg's one? Would same concept usefull for zerg users?
I've mostly interested in those who can win, whether it too easy for them and could it help to improve

Making a concious effort to multitask in an actual game even if it means you lose the first couple ... hundred times is probably more useful than this (if your goal is to be a better starcraft player) but I guess this could be a fun game scenerio that would also help you at the same time.

Err, how is shift-queueing cheating? You would qutie possibly use this in a real game when scouting, so I think its all part of it.

PS: you know what would be a great concept, if there was a map where you can practice your micro and macro... oh wait it's called starcraft ><

I don't think anyone uses this cuz you will lose scouting time when it goes too far into the base and good players don't want that at all.

wow, this is great, thank you! i died billions of times on the terran one, even when saving halfway. managing that probe through midgame is HARD but good training

Well you go the standard 2 rax build, place a fact and build a starport after your fact is done. You can either do this to:
Rush for a dropship and drops zergs main with your choke containing army Get a vessel quick for detection regular play. Get 2 tanks with no siege and a vessel (instead of tanks with siege) so you can push lurkers really fast early game. (tank of range without siege > lurker range). Then make siege while you push out to have it when you face sunkens.

Also, I was playing microing my scv away form the zealot and then my scv died. Then I started moving my probe around but the zealot froze after it killed my scv. I was like "wtf?" thinking that it would unfreeze if I attacked it. so there goes my probe to attack the zealot but as I discovered, the zealot remained frozen. My probe slayed the zealot. :D

i think the whole purpose of this was TO practice multitasking ONLY.

Yes but if you can never pass those first 10 minutes then there is no point in learning how to multitask. Therefore you might as well get as good as possible at the early period of the game so that being a good multitasker has any real use. The best way to practice Starcraft if your aim is to simply win as often as possible is to always just play regular games in my opinion. But if you just want a fun game that will help your multitasking at the same time then go for it. I'm just saying if your main aim is to be super gosu then don't bother ever playing these practice UMS maps.
And I'm just disregarding the fact that you think it takes 10 minutes before micro/macro play starts. Good players start almost right away with worker harass. If you want to be a good multitasker then start worker harassing more and after that stage in the game it starts to progress to normal micro/macro and this only takes like 5 minutes, certainly not 10. And even if someone cheeses, you still need to multitask because as you are trying to micro to stop the cheese you should be continuing to pump workers and other units and buildings.

I wonder if anyone has beaten it yet.
I gave both a try, and found Terran MUCH harder than Protoss. For me, it was almost impossible to keep my MMs alive against Sunken + Lurker while keeping the probe alive while spend money to build more stuff.
Protoss on the other hand was much easier, especially with the zealot-won't-chase-my-probe bug ^_^

Uhh yeah, it was just a one minute job though (I wanted to see a friend play it too ^^). I added map revealers, so it is somewhat sloppy, but it gets the job done.

I've already made a zerg one, just with only 2 lives, naturals, and no need to save an effing civilian. Mine have obs slots too, but what's bad is later in game the drone controlling screws up any attempt at micro.

This is great and I am happy someone finaly made a map like this. I know there are others like "fast and free" but this is good for solo pratice. I am a zerg user only and would like to train on a map for zerg. When you get the time could you include us zerg users into the fun?

Zerg one is hard to make cause zerg's mechanics differs from P and T and since I'm not zerg I can't test it in any way.

Hmm, I almost finished the Protoss UMS. Only one more minute I needed T_T
Anyway, may it be that replays on this map are broken? It's something like watching PP replays without BWL (idle workers, etc.) ... although I'm using patch 1.15 now AND no PP.

Yea. It's kinda old problem with ums. Replays work properly only in multiplayer and fastest speed. If you tries to speed up all player's actions screw up.

Does anyone have that Defense map where you get canons but you have to manually aim each one at the shit as it runs by? That map was pretty great multitask/micro stuff.

Just play for the best score. But if you wanna you can call 0(gas)/120(ore) a win.
Gas means survived units. Minerals is total amount of units. This ums is quite a challenge, best result I've heard is 34/120 ^_^

my freakin' scout keeps dying!! why would i want to scout for 15 minutes straight!!! @_@
I finally get enough units to finish and then my scout dies...

yea, think keeping the scout alive for 5 minutes or so would be realistic, since then the bersercer gets assistance from the first goon and your probe is dead anyway

There is a bug in the Protoss version that I know of. I haven't tried out the Terran one yet, but when the zeal hits the SCV, the zeal just stops following unless you get up close and get hit again. Might be just me~~

Map is protected, that was the first thing I tried.

Tried the terran one and had legit 230 apm for the first time in my life? (usually I'm about 130) I suddenly respect the silly spammers a lot more.. ouch hand :/

For the protoss one, I don't quite get the point of the ling rush. First few tries I made zeals to stop the ling rush, slowing my tech. But then I realised that if you don't make zeals the rush doesn't happen and you can go to obs fast. The ling rush should be to force zees and micro, not to discourage them.

Even though I haven't played this yet since I am Zerg, I do a simular thing when I am obs in Meele games. Sometimes I practcie running from my own scv while I spam different keys like the one for CC and other scvs. I do this when I am warming up or when the game just started and nothing is going on.
The thing I suggest to people playing these maps is to use the Fkeys for your scout. It is best to use 2 fkeys max but using one is better to simulate real play. What you do is set the Fkeys locations in a triangle formation using the 3rd point as the path that the scout travles back home to the CC/Nex. When you are macroing at home you can just click in your base and the scout will move to that point of the trianlge. This makes it much easier to run from the Zealot. You only have 3 click to repeat instead of many clicks in random places. Good Luck!

I've used to forget about supply depots. Every time I was siedging tanks and breaking sunken line I suddenly realized I couldn't make units anymore and game was ending with excess minerals =)
