Many people are aware of Starcraft: Insurrection, that very poor addon to the original SC. Well, what you might not know is that there were 2 other addons available, with even shorter life spans. Those are Stacraft: Stellar Forces and Starcraft: Retribution. Both rather difficult to come by, at least in a non-pirated form. (Although since both were dicontinued 6+ years ago I doubt this is a factor).

Short story even shorter: all of these addons are reported to be awful. I have played Stellar Forces and Insurrection and can confirm this. (Stellar Forces is so awful its often funny.) Anywho, I have obtained a copy of Starcraft: Retribution but I am unable to play it. (I am wondering if anyone knows the requirements for this addon - they weren't included in the readme. (Maybe windows 98?) I can't get the setup.exe to run and figured I was missing something.

Aren't all those addons made by 3rd party companies and aren't they for vanilla sc only? why would you wanna play that shit?

PS- I have actual copy of insurrection.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

They were all made in plain staredit and came in a fucking folder on a cd, you then drop it into the map directory and play it from custom games.

There are campaigns ten times better from campaigncreations.

I know that there are, and I have played every one of them. I just wanted to give this one a shot, because I have run out of even decent campaigns to play. People still make ums maps/melee maps, but the days of campaigns are long gone it seems.

And Retribution came on a cd with a setup.exe and a data cab. I can't extract the data from the cab file, and the setup file doesn't work for me.

I have 2 copies of Retribution. One for my collection (unopened - mint packaging) and the other to play with.

maybe your copy is broken
try this one
http://download.yousendit.com/79D18A3D42636BE2

if you wont be able to install the addon, someone could send you the maps manually (it's just an installer which puts the maps into maps\scenario\retribution folder (or something similar))

bye bye

I loved Enslavers, although it was fucking hard as hell. It took me cheesing + turtling to get through the last mission (the one with the Warp Gate).

Thanks a lot. I will try this and report back. Yesterday I got a new error while trying to run it akin to this (instead of the setup.exe not working altogether)
"Error running 16bit Windows Application
Not enough memory to run this application. Quit some programs and try again."

Since I have more than enough memory (1.5gigs) I imagine this is referring to that memory of long ago (I forgot the name) EMM memory, or something... the memory you had to free up to run old DOS games in the windows 95/98 era.

Does anyone have any information on this? Maybe I am mistaken here in my diagnosis.

Hello, i found Retribution on TPB and played it. It is just a map pack for original Starcraft. Some missions were almost impossible (i think 3rd mission for Protoss is impossible to play, where you have no nexus and no map info, and as far as you maphack find hatch with ressources and build nexus, 2 waves come which you are unable to hold. Standard tactics like 4-6 gates, half zeal - half goon, upgrades and gogogo didn't work due to low eco possibilities). Also i didn't got used to play non-BW, strategies i know well are for BW.

Are there another addons that are worse to play?

P.S. Don't use words "Starcraft 2" in this thread!

I don't know which "3rd mission" you are referring to since there are actually 2 "3rd missions" in Retribution depending on your choice in mission 2 :

If you attack the Zerg in mission 2, you will fight Zerg in mission 3
If you attack the Terran in mission 2, you will fight Terran in mission 3

Since you mentioned hatch and "build Nexus" I suppose you did the Zerg mission. If so when the mission start immediately go to the right and capture 2 Terran bunkers to have a bunch of Terran reinforcement, then continue to go to the right find a Zerg base, destroy them and build your Nexus there and you will be safe (don't forget to capture the Terran building there).

After that just build up an army, expand (there is a base to the left), mass goon/zeal/templars/archons and crush the Zerg to pieces. If you want to play safe build a bunch of cannons to defend your base and Zerg cannot do anything against it.

Yes, this is it. I got rines/bats, then went up and to the left and destroyed a base on the west end. But then there were 2 waves, first mass hydra (which i hardly held with speed zeals), second with ultra / mass hydra, which i was unable to hold because i can't make storm because of low gas.

There is no scouting and no unit production till you capture a location, the map is full of sunkens, the only way to scout is a fight - with limited unit count, if you go to a wrong direction - you lose.

Also some maps were just booooring, sometimes i went off minerals after repeated tries to eliminate the opponent. The easiest race was the terran, due to imba 1 pack goliaph + 1 pack tanks - and nobody can come close. The hardest race was the zerg since i can't play zerg in hard missions, especially in original starcraft, and it has not the ultimative power like goliaphs + tanks mentioned above, which is expencive, but after you get it, you hardly lose units. Zerg always lose units, and sometimes they don't kill enough in exchange. Defending against AI attacks also needs your attention - and AI don't get tired, but you do.

Btw, are you sure, that there is a choice between terr and zerg? What map is mission vs terran? After map 03 i played map 04 vs terrans.

Lol it was so easy when playing terran tech. I don't know, maybe by capturing the wrong base i activated some kind of insane trigger.

Yeah you should have captured the base to the right, not to the left (along with Terran buildings).

In mission 2 if you reach the Zerg Cave to the North you play Zerg in mission 3, if you reach the Terran installation to the South you play Terran in mission 3.

For a better gaming experience, you can "black sheep wall" to have a general concept of the map, then quit and start the mission again. This may save you from having to restart the mission several times.

IMO, the easiest race to play in this campaign is Protoss, because freaking Carriers kill everything, even the Zerg. Making Carriers is the cheapest way to complete the Protoss campaign (a very useful skill toi have lool)

Fuck i cannot play zerg against those fucking terrans except making 3 pack muta 2 pack cracklings, but i need 2-3 locations for this. With 1 location vs 1 location i cannot win.

Bullshit. Carriers vs Zerg is too much stress, you must always control. I just played bonus mission #3.
Carrier + mass goon is the best vs terran, carriers destroy static defence and tanks and tank damage with interceptors, goons defend the carriers.

IMO the easiest (with less stress of all) race is terran if you play mech, but 2+ locations are recommended.

And if you have problems installing Retribution, downlad Universal Extractor and unpack the cab archive.
