Ehmm, what the fuck?
How exactly does this look in action?

you really should take it to the next level and look into MPQ and Tileset editors, to make this playable Note: including it in the original BW (as opposed to OpenBW, which isn't ready for custom tilesets yet) will require you to use 8bit colors.
I suggest using MPQEditor to modify StarDat.mpq. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original StarDat.mpq first. Note: to be able to view real file and directory names, you will need a listfile. See http://www.zezula.net/en/mpq/download.html
Assuming you base your set on "jungle": Go to the tileset directory and extract all jungle-based files to a local directory. The jungle folder jungle.cv5 jungle.grp jungle.vf4 jungle.vr4 jungle.vx4 jungle.wpe
Now you can use the Tileset editor to open jungle.cv5 and browse through the entire tileset. Try exporting a tile group, replace it with one of yours, import it and re-build the MPQ file with the new set.
I will be happy to help via chat at IRC #BWAPI

What's wrong with having "fun" tilesets for fun maps? Why does everything have to be made to be competitive?

The only thing it achieves is to discourage and disappoint somebody who just put a lot of hours into his work.
If that actually is the only thing you wanted to achieve, then you could use PM. If it is important to you to let the rest of the world know of your dismissive stance on the subject, then yes, announce it publicly via a reply in the thread. I just fear it won't add much value overall. That is, people won't change their behavior based on whether they do or do not know that you think it's terrible.
If you decide you want to create value, then you could for example point out what exactly bothers you. To take it one step further you add suggestions on how to improve.
Personally, I thought the demo image was way too dark. But after examining some original tilesets I think I might be wrong. After all, tilesets like "ice" are really never played because it hurts the eyes.

There's prolly ~countless~ zelda ums maps as is. If OpenBW + things like this come to fruition we might well have revived interest in ums etc. on our hands. Really cool.

Wow, you're right, I didn't even think of it! All zelda-related UMS maps using the zelda-themed tileset. Probably not too hard, but also not trivial to pull off - we need a way to dynamically change the tileset of a map.

Nice experimentation. I don't think it can be implemented by any means to BW but SC2 allows you to make custom textures, doesn't it? If you want you can give a shot to Galaxy Editor.
EDIT: In other hand do you remember that Mario UMS for BW with custom textures? http://i.imgur.com/WW8sf1e.jpg

guys there's no way this would actually work with BW since it's not isometric

I meant it looked terrible in the context of it being a replacement for vanilla art when you don't have those assets available, which the OP seemed to imply on first reading. Hence my mention of the OpenBW HD module art and how that contrasts what was presented.
On its own merits it looks good for what it is.
