The question of fresh blood is something that has troubled the SoSPA scene for quite some time now. With many of the ex-progamers eventually having to leave for the military service, who would be there to take their place? It is a question that periodically comes up but the answer is an elusive beast.
Even if an amateur who could take on the top ex-progamers were to rise, he would have a hard time making a living. And where do we get the fresh blood with no environment for young talents to develop in? We have seen an amateur team formed under Sonic's leadership earlier in Sonic Proleague, but this experience taught Sonic he needs to take things a step further!
Do not worry, there are no razors involved~
There is a lot of talk about the Starleague entry. It is likely there will be some amateur participants in the 10th Starleague! It seems about time we had at least a few amateur players in and started promoting fresh faces.
If we are to progress a bit more, I am thinking of founding an amateur team and providing practice space for them. Or, if that doesn't work out, we could come up with a system for the team and employ players in our office.
Fixed thanks to Hesmyr: Many players who participated in 9th SSL will be unable to participate. This is not because the players deliberately chose not to do so, but because they had already committed themselves to other leagues which schedule conflicted with ours, so please refrain from random speculations or blame certain players for their absences.
At the same time, SonicTV has always been able to bring in cards you didn't even think of, and I think the 10th Starleague can become the best one yet!
Things don't end with the 10th season, we will also try to run the 11th, 12th and 13th seasons with OnGameNet. OGN's production team is also concerned even more than with the previous Starleagues. SonicTV does not end here either, we are very concerned over this New Beginning and will focus all of our energy into it.
The entry and schedule annoucement comes next week. Please look forward to it. I will also make efforts to give you Sonic's voice again. T/N: Maybe a guerilla stream or Super Fight #8?
Enjoy your weekend!
Update: SonicTV hosts a 128 player selection tournament for the SSL.
Sonic has just announced a 128 player selection tournament for the SSL. See the post or the cafe for more information. Step 1) Be in Korea.
The signing up starts tomorrow Monday 8th and will go on until Friday 13th. 128 players will be allowed in on a first come, first served basis.
The competition itself will start with the round of 128 on Saturday 13th, 1PM KST. The round of 32 and the finals will take place the following day at the same time.
Starting with the round of 32, they players will be required to stream their matches. The winner will receive some prizes from SBENU and will get to play in the upcoming Starleague.
Only 26 years old, Sonic with his motto "Actions speak louder than words." keeps fighting on all fronts and has also finished moving his offices. This is what the new SBENU headquarters in Hongdae, right in front of the Hapjeong Station, looks like:
The Hongdae Area (Hangul: 홍대앞; hanja: 弘大앞) is a region in Seoul, South Korea near the Hongik University, after which it is named. It is known for its urban arts and indie music culture, clubs and entertainments. -wiki
This is amazing. I just hope he does not overstretch himself financially. But he seems to have handled it quite well in the past, so I'm not that worried.

No idea about Jangbi, he doesn't give any statements on Afreeca or on facebook. Last time he streamed was October and it's more like once in a month if at all, so no idea.
Don't look back just look forward, people unite and it's gonna be alright. In sonic we believe as he believes in us. I am so glad someone understands that there is only one true starcraft game. Why does TL even exist?!
i think you can try using those proxy services? get sbenu to ship to an address in korea and the proxy company will ship to europe.. pretty sure korea of all place should have such service
Or just follow his facebook https://www.facebook.com/sogoodtt and like those posts, he can't add more friends cuz he's reached the limit but following should be possible?

Euh is this for amateurs only? I assume so, right?

Thanks for updating us Stratos!
They'll be streaming using some secret key or sth. I don't understand that sentence tbh but I'm sure they thought of that.

Everyone can take part it looks like, pros, ex-pros, semi-pros and amateurs. Would be somewhat dumb to not give those ex-pros that weren't invited a shot.

Amateur players were very absent in the 9th Starleague but it was not something we did on purpose. We had decided they would participate in another league first and the coordination proved difficult so we renounced the idea, so I wish you would refrain from making assumptions and firing insults.

That explains some of the weird vibe in some comments, fuck I totally read that as if it's adressing the pre-SSL9 amateur qualifiers.. Even now I can kinda read it that way but you are certainly right. Thanks, I fixed it.
That's a bit sad, though I assume it means LSL3 is still coming?

LSL3 map test/Sponleague is ending soon (or at least season 2 of it is), so perhaps LSL3 is about to start soon thereafter?
I know we're just speculating, but it'd be a shame if LoveTV can't communicate with Sonic, seeing as she used to work with/for him, to avoid such a schedule conflict Why put the players in a position where they're basically forced to choose sides?
I don't blame a few top players, though, if they think they have a shot at the LSL3 prize money...
It's just a reaction to certain afreeca netizens discussing the player entry before it's even released. Sonic addresses similar trollish tendencies on a regular basis and I don't translate them as they don't really have much to do with us or anything.
For example this one just says they should wait for the entry and then discuss it. And that there's no reason to fight over it anyway, let's just enjoy it all together. Schedule should be up during the week.
I suppose most notably netizens have been complaining about (possible) lack of Bisu, Terror, Sea etc.

Thanks for translating and explaining
Did Sonic address which players specifically have scheduling conflicts (LSL3 or otherwise)? Or if he is trying to work with the parties that are conflicting to see if they might work something out to avoid top names not being able to play in both tournaments...?
Hopefully the Facebook/Afreeca posters are asking him questions like these...
There's no new info, he's just addressing the ppl making assumptions as to who will or will not be playing, why and how it would affect the league.. And says they should wait for the announcement.
This whole schedule conflict thing brings mixed feelings from me. On one hand it means that there is a large league (probably LSL 3) in the works and players are getting ready to compete. On the other, it means SSL 10 might lack some big name players for it to work. I hope the leagues can cooperate.
While the cooperation between leagues is necessary, I also think that the competition is important in fostering a professional scene. With two leagues, both organizers will be eager to put on a more appealing and impressive show than the other, which in turn creates better tournaments for both the viewers and players.
In any case, I'm very excited for 2015, a year of BW!

I'm really mad though BW is not working for me I've installed and re-installed and I can't play anymore . It truly makes me a sad panda T.T
Install Windows XP in VirtualBox. Install BW in the XP virtual machine. Works like a charm for me. If you're old enough to have a copy of XP lying around, then it's the ideal solution because you can make the VM dedicated to BW and only BW.
