Yeah, but it definitely takes a certain temperament to be able to crush one's way through the depressing miasma of "hero to zero." Not that Jangbi was anywhere close to zero ... (which is why this news is so shocking).

I'm sure his success and all the traveling must be a big bonus for him to stick around.

Instead of straight up retiring, try going on a foreign adventure.

Other than Flash you would be hard pressed to find a player with as much dedication and work ethic as Jaedong and for how long they've in the business? God damn.

He was a fantastic player

Where does the less money come from? I can see the less fame part, but he could have made a lot more money in SC2 than BW if he was doing as well as he was at the end of BW.

It's a big decision for your life and the amount of work these guys put in becoming brood war champions back in the day must be horrific. You can only survive that if you love the challenge and the thrill of the game. another good example for this is Best, who retired and directly started playing bw again. and Sea, and Hiya (though I would accept that these guys did not really delve deep into sc2)...

The real surprise rests on the fact that JangBi was actually looking quite good, guys like Sea were making strides, but yeah at the end of the day if you don't enjoy the game or find that passion then maybe it's time for a change of scenery. Getting your military duty out of the way is a great start.

I actually think the scenery change did JD a ton of good. From what I hear, JD enjoys being on EG, and honestly, if you're a Chinese/Korean player and you have the chance to go to a legit foreign team, I think you should take it and run. ![]()
