I'm going to go off on a tangent with the following, but know that I'm not necessarily bashing them: I don't know how guys like Day[9], Tasteless, and Artosis managed to seemingly drop and completely forget about BW. They said themselves before SC2 was released, "StarCraft is my life" and yet they didn't seem to have a problem with basically giving the notion of, "shoot, out with the old and in with the new." To my knowledge not once did Day[9] even mention the happenings of the pro Korean BW scene during his streams after SC2's release. It seems very fraile and fickle to me, but hey, hats off to you guys. As for me, BW truly is my life and I'm going to remember and respect it until the day I die.

I've always felt that they were aggressively opportunistic fellows -- and I don't mean that necessarily an entirely negative way.

SC is the one and only community I really loved enough to put in hours of time/work, all for free. To me, the death of BW is the end of e-sports. Most of my korean friends feel similarly. Once the final PL and tournaments are done, I think I'm done with gaming for a long time. BW was the last hope for a real e-sport based off a game the required real skill and dedication imo. Its too bad. E-sports really was looking like they were headed for the big stage too... yeah its sad, to a lot of people this would be considered a wake up call, all good things come to an end, all they can do is to hope for the best for the pros, or not if they are bitter about it. the amateur BW scene isn't going anywhere, so why should I, as much as I loved it as an esport I love it as a game too...

Obviously, BW could have kept going. However, with the rest of the world playing more SC2 than BW, Korea/BW wouldn't be able to spread easily. In that sense, there would be 2 esports groups (or starcraft groups), instead of 1 big, unified, global group. So, at least don't think of it as BW dying. It's more just about Kespa choosing to transition into SC2, hoping to keep Korea as the mecca of esports (it can't really be the mecca if everyone else is playing sc2 right?) (In the current meeting, Kespa has said that they are switching to SC2 with the intent to grow esports by holding the title of being the mecca of esports while at the same time combining forces with all other current SC2 bodies). Still, I'm going to miss BW. But with everyone playing SC2, there should be more pressure for Blizzard to improve/fix the game. For example, if all the BW players switch and -- as some predict -- they do really well, with TBLS owning even the top SC2 progamers atm, and at the same time, show significant flaws in the game as either or both a player and spectator, Blizzard should feel more motivated to address such issues.

However, as I see it, it will be up to the players to make SC2 interesting. I still don't believe Blizzard will be able to make a worthy sequel. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong.

The SC2 vs BW argument exists too. They are also a lot ruder - some want kespa to fail lol BW really is over since seasons 3 is probably going to be SC2 only. The only thing I want to look forward to is the former BW pros destroying current SC2 players so that I can laugh at their scene.

It seems very fraile and fickle to me, but hey, hats off to you guys. As for me, BW truly is my life and I'm going to remember and respect it until the day I die. Given how often Day[9] brings up BW on SOTG ( and less often but still sometimes on the daily) when given half a chance I'd say he hasn't forgotten it. Him, Artosis and Nony can get rather nostalgic and you can tell they wish starcraft 2 was more than what it currently is. You can hear honest passion and yearning in their voices when Nony talks about Jangbi's carrier use and decision making in the OSL or derision in Artosis' voice when he wonders why blizzard won't just make the proposed warhound a damned goliath. You could hear those three ask for things to be more BW style (maps, unit design etc) so often that it became a running joke of how fast they could bring up BW. I haven't been around since the beginning though so I can't comment on if they never made an effort to get new fans to at least try BW or direct them at the bw streams when tournaments were on. I know I don't recall them doing that lately though which is sad. I'm not so sure they were disloyal to the spirit of BW so much as they hoped for a more accessible future. With sc2 was the chance to expand something they loved and make it a game they could share with so many more people. Starcraft 2 is, however, not really what a lot of the old crowd was hoping for but they do their best to keep people interested. There is hope yet that future expansions can be used to find the depth BW has and make sc2 worthy of BW's legacy. Of course that's just my take on the matter and others are free to read into the situation what they will. I was brought into the scene by Sc2 but I've come to really admire and enjoy BW as well. I'll remain on TL for both games and both communities since a true merging of them is unlikely to ever happen.
