I hate watching sc2 especially because of the graphics. The game itself isn't so bad to watch but too many things are clumped together and it makes it a pain for the eyes. Yes I am saddened by these news but at least bw is still there. Now we only need OSL to continue for years...
It may make me enjoy sc2 a little more tho... hmmm let's see how it goes...

Looking forward to seeing the crew from BW in SC2

Most importantly, I would get to watch both BW and SC2 at once ^^ This whole "just love starcraft" thing isn't fooling anybody. Now they do this just to piss me off, but what can I do, they don't like it. I'd still watch this league, even if diehard BW and SC2 fans both won't watch because the other game is involved (they aren't so different, are they). I might be a little optimistic with the "unify the fanbase" but I can't help myself :p lol yes, they are very different. just because you like both doesn't mean you like them for the same reasons. if i love watching both basketball and baseball, does that make them both equivalent sports? they've both got the word "ball" in them... Yeah so it might be terrible. I'm willing to give this league a shot, though. You don't want to see an inning of baseball followed by a quarter of basketball? Played by the same team? Followed up with a period of hockey? And an ace match with a set of tennis? I might watch that. It wouldn't be as beautiful as a SPL or GSL, but I'd certainly get some entertainment.
of course; it'd be like going to the circus.

As a special event? Sure, I'd watch that. Would I want it in place of a full game of baseball? Not in a million years.

I don't think it's too terrible of an idea. I'd rather see some bw than no bw. Also teams already have divisions for BW/SF/etc. so it wouldn't be too hard making an sc2 division. Maybe people will even see how much better bw is as a spectator e-sport (according to most of us) and want to bring the old PL back.
Either way this seems like it's going to happen since the author of the original article sounded very sure about this rumor.

WTF MAN!!! How is this gonna work? Who is gonna play which set!? Must be a lot of crackheads at KESPA for them to have even come up with this.

If I wanted to watch basketball, I'd go watch pros play basketball. If I wanted to watch tennis, I'd go watch pros play tennis. Why the fuck would I want to watch a hockey player try to play baseball? We watch players play their specific game/sport for a reason: because they're good at it.
Sure, it'd be hilarious the first time, but this isn't some "oh, i just want to see what it's like" one-time deal either. It's 4 days a week, every week for months. The novelty will wear off, and then it'll just be, "god these guys suck at everything because they're trying to play too much shit at once."

Wow, wait, when I posted I never thought that my opinion would be the polar opposite of the general consensus.
Why is this so bad? If we hate the other so much, why can't we just tune off?
|
worst idea ever, and i'm not gonna explain because every second post already did that
somebody get our voices to whereever this rumour came from. i'd be glad if this was a joke
|
This idea popped into my head once but I didn't think they would actually do it because IMO it is a stupid idea. The only reason to do it is to slowly introduce the BW Purists to a new game slowly.

Define "tune off". It's bad because from many people's perspective the commercials are going from 5 mins to 25, and they will also screw with the results of the league? And there will be less BW. That's a pretty bad deal.

I don't endorse this idea. It's been established here on TL and on various online gaming communities and everywhere else in the world that SCBW and SC2 are different games. They are different. They may share same unit concepts and names and maybe the storyline as well, but in the end they are DIFFERENT. You can't simply dip fried chicken into nutella then tell people to enjoy it because at least half of it is what you used to enjoy. It makes no sense to mix the two games in the same match.
Maybe if they decided to do something like SCBW for season 1 and SC2 for season 2, the reception would be more favourable. Fans would understand that the two are separate leagues and they'll tune in to whatever they find worthy.
Even the source article raises a suspicion that the recent visit from Blizzard's Mike Morhaime (he was spotted in the OGN studio watching one of the SPL games) was an initiative from Blizzard to promote SC2 in Korea. Due to dwindling SC2 popularity in Korea (mentioned in the source article and in other recent articles as well, with PC cafe statistics and other viewership numbers), Blizzard is doing what they can to find ways to promote their game. Ironic how Blizzard's trying to play nice with KeSPA now.
From the comments to the source article, people are also suspecting that KeSPA is trying to tap into the revenue potential from streaming (like GomTV). I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. We've witnessed teams disbanding due to lack of sponsorship funds. Perhaps this is the solution that KeSPA came up with to make the ends meet.
I'm probably going to watch SPL next season, no matter how they organize the games or the sets around. Will I continue watching until the end of next season... is another question. Perhaps SC2 will be more fun to watch worth watching with proper broadcasting (that is, OGN). Still, at the moment, I cannot comprehend the logic behind mixing up the two games in the same league, in the same match. Say the season started tonight, then my initial feelings would be broken and confused between the sets.
|
I would guess they're planning on an eventual transition to SC2 but feel that an immediate switch would turn too many current fans away and separate leagues would just see the SC2 one largely ignored.
|
this thing makes my rage actually grow stronger sc2 was so badly done
jesus they could've made something so unique =(
i'll cry forever at every single colossus / marauder battle i see on ogn

Hey, buying and trying the game for $60 and watching MLG several times don't count as "introducing ... a new game slowly"? When I see you guys complain it feels like you believe 'BW Purists' pop out of the ground nowhere with hatred of SC2. News flash, there are some brood war players who actually like SC2 and play both games. Why don't you wait for the metagame to develop better so that more people will like the game that way instead of trying to brainwash us forcibly?
|
I think it's stupid and should either be 2 separate leagues or only one game but since I'm lucky enough to enjoy both I'll watch whatever they end up doing anyway. God forbid you're unable to turn off the stream if you just don't like it.
|
Well, that makes no goddamn sense at all. Why not BW/Mario Kart?
I mean, I guess it means BW lives on, but what?
|
this is a gimmick guys. sure it'll be shits and giggles for a week, but then people are gonna start crying, "Why can't/don't they just play one fucking game?"
have a separate league ffs.
