New Proleague maps heavily anti-Protoss!?
http://vimeo.com/31016124
Recently, Stork, Jangbi, Best, Bisu, Horang2 and Movie met up for a small chit-chat. Stork, Jangbi, Bisu, Horang2 and Best started off by complaining about the new maps to be used in the upcoming Proleague season. Bisu wanted to complain about the maps during broadcast, but Stork said it'll be too late to change the maps by then. They all complained that they are heavily zerg favored in PvZ, while for PvT, as usual, it's Terran favored (lol). Jangbi stated that it may be because 3 years ago, the mapmaker went to Khan for advice, and his maps all ended up being heavily toss-favored, and thus, he does not trust the team for map balancing advice anymore. Bisu, during the discussion of carriers vs arbiters, commented that carriers take too much micro to use, while arbiters just require one spell cast.

Netizen's general consensus about Proleague matches' frequency and other issues
The results were somewhat similar to the polls on TL.
60% of the 2720 netizens who voted said yes to 5 days a week, bo7 format, while 12.5% said 5 days, bo5, 17.7% said 3 or 4 days, bo5 while the rest voted misc.
out of 2535 people who voted on the winners' league issue, 51.1% said keep the current WL format (2 rounds of winners' league), while 40.1% said revert it back to 1 round format, while the other 7.7% said take it out of proleague, and remaining 1.1% voted misc.
with regards to SC2, 48.9% (or 1345 voters, out of 2752 voters) said no to SC2 completely, while the other options - "SC2 slowly integrated", "implement SC2 straightaway" and "misc" - got 34.2%, 16.0% and 0.9% votes respectively.

KT Rolster and Woongjin Stars to have combined workshop
The two teams will be going tto O2 Resort (somewhere in Gangwondo, Tae-bek) from the 26th to 28th to enhance teamwork skills and such. Interesting how it's a two-team workshop instead of individual ones.

Update: Apparently, they played soccer. Light's team vs Reach's team. Reach's team smashed light's team 4:3.

When I heard about his eye the information that was given was kind of weird so I didn't fully know what was going on or I just read wrong. Either way this is great news if it's successful but I hope he can get used seeing with both eyes~ hasn't he been like this for a long time now? His one eye was fucked up when he was little (we don't know what happened) His other eye has been bad for quite a while now. So he's just maintaining his useful eye? Hydra's LASIK is on his "good" eye, not the damaged one. Because he's been solely relying on one eye for intense usage like SCBW, his eyesight is degrading on that good eye. Before he put on a lens he could barely tell what's going on in the minimap. He put on that lens and he had his recent surge as #1 Zerg (sigh JD get your act together). So he's doing that LASIK on the good eye to see better without the lens. I'm not sure whether it helps him preserve his eyesight longer or whatever.
Update: Hydra's surgery went successfully. He may even be able to start playing normally in 2 weeks!
BW to not have B.Net shutdown
On October 28 2011 02:47 OpticalShot wrote: In other news, looks like the Shutdown Regulation will be edited to exclude Blizzard games. I don't have any official statements but there are articles on the usual sites (Fomos, DES, TIG, PlayXP, etc. blablabla) that report that Family Women's Council will make the necessary edits to exempt Blizzard's classic games from the regulation. The tricky thing is that this raises the question whether SC2 should also be exempt (for now it seems like it'll still be affected) as well, since it falls under the same category of "packaged, CD-installed games" but the user's age can be checked.

Thanks for the news,
Edit: RIP HIYA'S DAD
I really wonder how the Proleague maps will turn out. I tend to find Protoss' complain about everything beforehand anyway We'll seee though
Pretty harsh on the SC2 side, guess we might be seeing less of it afterall, especially if MBC steps down and OGN is broadcasting everything alone.
Cheers Kona

After how well Protosses did in Proleague, I'm not surprised they are making the mappool rather anti-Protoss. Gonna be like 09-10 Season all over again rofl
I do hope they at least keep Circuit Breaker in the mappool, that map was great

Holy dream team dragons! X_X
Thanks for the update, kona. Really wanna see the maps though!
Wait, why is yellow in that workshop pic? Old or is he just still associated with kt?

I guess we'll just have to see how the maps turn out come PL season. And it would be great to get some pics of the KT/Woonjin workshop when they come out.
Thanks konadora!

Protoss are never happy unless the maps are exactly right for them.. they specifically said they wanted to make some 'original' maps, but you can't do that and keep all the P's happy. And personally i'd rather have some interesting maps rather than say, 6 different Neo-Aztecs or something. Like what's an unusual map that is good for P? I'm guessing they will always want a map with totally secure natural for Forge FE, relatively easy 3rd for PvZ (oh but not too easy cause of those damn turtle Terran's) and a middle layout which is fairly open with no small passages. That's some pretty limiting factors surely.
|
6 Protoss players get together for a chat, and the conclusion they come up with is... these maps should be improved for Protoss!
What a surprise?

My condolensces to Hiya's family. Mr. Ku raised a good son indeed.
As far as the proleague maps go, I'm always skeptical when people claim maps are bad for their own race but it wouldn't surprise me if the dragons were telling the truth. IMO if anything map makers should lean towards being more anti-zerg. Too much ZvZ in the individual leagues last year for my taste.
|
Same, my heart goes to Hiya's family. I hope they always keep him in there heart.
Well, technically the "new" 6 Dragons speaks. I would at least hear them out, because if they aren't just saying for there own sake, than they have a point. If it isn't just PvZ, as PvT than too, they need to re-look at it fast. Also, Bisu, you have one of the best Micro in game, why are you complaining about mircoing Carriers -.- But than again... I mean Bisu had always found a way to punish Zergs regardless of maps so... I mean take his word against Zergs with a grain of salt
|
Dang, seems like many OZ members are having bad news...RIP Hiya's dad, hope he gets over this fast and continues to beast

Really sad to hear about Hiya's dad. I hope his family is coping well. Thanks for the news though!

Hopefully Hiya can keep his head up while playing the game. I would be devastated. I don't want to this face+ Show Spoiler + a depressed one.

Troy? Plasma? Monty Hall? All have some semi-island nature to them that zergs hate though.
That said, if these maps truly are "original", I don't think protosses should complain right now. Because it takes a while for strategies to truly develop, and race imbalance may not be apparent at first. But if the maps are still cookie-cutter maps with some whacky pathing, then they would be legit in their complaints.

(Though i just saw that they have a SC2 section as well. Still i always thought it's one of the main korean scbw sites and i don't think that's the case for SC2)

And my gosh, the tosses looking classy as hell in that meetup. It would seem that the mapmakers don't like how a Protoss won the last OSL, so they're going to take it out on all protosses in PL. =P

Ugh, I hope the maps aren't anti-Protoss. We get enough of that from the OSL's goofball maps.

GL to Hydra with his surgery! And my thoughts are with Hiya, I lost my dad when I was younger, so i know what he's going though. Rest in peace.

In other news, looks like the Shutdown Regulation will be edited to exclude Blizzard games.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense. But it's also really sad... One eye gone and the other one deteriorating due to the stress. Lasik is hardly a permanent solution

Oh wow, I had no idea LASIK was so versatile. I hope it works out well for Hydra since he only has one eye to work with.

There was always a controversy whether old CD-installed games were going to be included in the shutdown system or not (there were rumors that CD-installed games won't be included in the regulation originally; however rumors are rumors so I didn't post that here).
Current games like SC2 will be regulated in such way so that 18+ years won't be banned after nightfall, because they need their Korean SSID to make an account.

Yeah... I'm feeling really awkward after reading it.. I'm sad and worried and enraged all at the same time.
It's not official yet and this wait is killing me. I wish we had translations from the korean community, what do they think about it? That poll showed that the majority of koreans are not interested in SC2, why would the teams and KeSPA switch then?
|
If there is any switch, it will hurt me so much that I even cannot describe it. I will leave. I have still hope.

I'm confused about how the articles posted in this topic and the article on Fomos don't seem to connect. Bisu complains that the new Proleague maps aren't P favored but apparently they are all actually practicing SC2 for next season? I wish KeSPA would make an official statement so we could know exactly what is going on and why.
I feel sad.

so hard watching a game ive loved for so many years start to fade away like this

Proleague will still happen, anything else wouldn't make sense. There won't be a mass switch of all players either because it simply isn't viable; think how many pro's would be attempting to make a living from SC2 in total. Some A/B teamers who never won anything will be obviously be wanting to switch when they see the players who are winning money in SC2, problem is they are going to be disappointed when there's so much competition. I wouldn't be surprised as some players switching then coming back later, now they can stay in their team house after all.

How come only ~2700 netizens voted in those polls? I thought fomos had a bigger BW userbase. Was it always this small?

Some minor updates:
Hydra's lasik surgery was successful, he will be able to play normally in 2 weeks.
About Woongjin and KT's combined workshop, a soccer tournament was held. Reach's team won Light's team 4:3, no surprises.

People voting on a esports news site isn't representative of all the people who will watch BW or go to the games.

Sorry if this is posted elsewhere and I missed it, but I found some additional news that doesn't seem to have been translated, so here it is. (Source: SC Times)
STX SouL players participate in volunteer activities A total of 26 players and coaching staff from STX SouL's StarCraft and Special Force teams volunteered on the 19th as participants in STX Happy Volunteer Week. STX began this corporate volunteer program in late 2008 and has run it twice a year since. Activities this time included sidewalk repairs at Kyongbokkung. On the 22nd, they also took part in a walking marathon, part of STX's broad social activism program "Creating the World with Dreams and Future" [T/N: yes, this is the official name], at the Misari Regatta in Gyeonggi Province, completing a roughly 9.5km course. (Sources: 1, 2)
KT Rolster and Woongjin STARS hold joint workshop (some more details beyond what's in the OP) The KT Rolster and Woongjin STARS teams met to hold a three-day workshop on the 26th. In the "Right/Wrong Quiz" [T/N: Not sure exactly what this is, but it's probably a competition where players are asked to guess whether a statement is right or wrong and those who answer incorrectly are eliminated until only one person is left] held on the first day, Woongjin STARS's Gosi[Flying] survived to the end and won a gift certificate. On the second day the teams scaled Hambaek Mountain, with KT's Crazy-Hydra reaching the summit first. The teams closed out the workshop with a friendly game of soccer. (Source)
Free undergoes wrist surgery Woongjin STARS's Free has received surgery on his wrist and is currently recovering. "I've been suffering from wrist pain for quite a while now. I want to keep playing, so I decided on surgery," he said. "Apparently some of the cartilage there was damaged and unable to heal, so the purpose of the surgery was to remove that part. Since the procedure I haven't experienced any pain, so I'm happy I did it." (Source)
Flash's rehabilitation proceeding smoothly [T/N: I only translated the part that isn't in the OP of the thread we have about this.] ..."Some of you might be worried about the fact I've put on some weight, but I'm doing my best to lose at least 7 kg before the new season starts and to get my arm back into peak condition so that I can give you even better performances than before and look great while doing it," Flash said in a message to his fans. Did CH is on KT now? By the way, thanks gngfn for the news I'm really appreciate it.
To Flash and Free, get well soon.

Silly Flash, you can't lose the weight of that new robotic arm implanted into you.
