Never again will Hiya, Jaedong, Anytime, Lomo, Killer and PM play as a team. Seriously hope KeSPA finds sponsors

Nope, this is the exact opposite of what is happening. Several companies pulling out of esports is one of the worst possible things that can happen to SC2, considering it is currently far less profitable a market than BW in Korea.

KeSpa most likely merge all 3 teams into one to balance the pro league as 8 teams and draft the extra players to other teams...

That's what most of us are hoping for, I'm sure. I wouldn't mind having only 8 teams, and if the teams are indeed merged, I don't think Brood War's proscene will be taking as big of a hit as people are making this out to be. It's not going to stop me from watching, and I doubt it'll stop anyone else from watching. MSL dying, on the other hand..

Sounds like a decent plan here. It will form pretty good team if you look at it, as long as they can play and work together. ![]() Won't save MSL though, i'm pretty sure. Still haven't lost hope yet tho!

For those with short memories they can get a new sponsor like Hanabit Stars did when it became Woojin Stars and Stars was the worse or second worse team in PL at the time while these three times are middle to lower ranked. Although it's hard to imagine all three finding new sponsors.

But who will be the sponsor? I think now is one of those times where jd will have to take a massive cut to his pay for the sake of his teammates and finding a new sponsor if he wants to continue playing. I doubt anybody is in the market for a 6 digit ace now that theres alot of talent being released.

I didn't really expect Oz and Fox to also have trouble and sucks the MBC rumor was true after all even with attempts to deny it. I'm leaning more toward this... rumors on Chinese websites are just that, rumors. Maybe if some Koreans can find it on Korean sites though, ... ![]()

Disbanding is a very bad sign. Since none of the sponsors showed any signs of porting their players to SC2. They all gave valid reasons even though they all could probably finance a pro team further it seems it's the e-sport aspect that they just don't see marketable enough anymore. Sponsors jumping ship isn't a new thing, the question now is more what company will invest into these players and into an old game, with a relatively recent bad history and a future that is up in the clouds.

Not to turn this thread into a SC2 debate. But isn't SC2 in terms of supply and demand considered fine? SC2 may be smaller in viewership compared to BW but on the other hand there is only one league, which is GSL. So that makes it kind of ok that SC2 isn't big?! It would be far worse if there was like 2-3 big leagues like GSL in Korea and the same amount of viewers that there is today for GSL. Oh well. Either way it's sad that e-sports is getting smaller. I don't play BW (nor do I play LoL, Dota, Halo) but I like to see e-sports news and e-sports events. Just like I don't follow all sports but I like just watching ESPN and listening to different kind of sports news. Here is hoping new sponsors pick this team up or the players get new teams. I don't want to see Jaedong in SKT though! The Tyrant shall crush nerds in one way or another!!!!!!!!!

SC2 and BW are in the same industry, and if multiple companies show that they no longer want to invest into esports of any kind then this can only hurt SC2, as that takes future potential sponsors interested in advertising through gaming out of the market, and is one less avenue of profit and success SC2 can explore. The only way a team dropping Broodwar sponsorship could be good for SC2 is if the company stopped sponsoring broodwar specifically so they could spend that money on SC2. The only thing there is here is money exiting esports, not transferring over to your preferred one.

It's funny because even after you merge these three teams together the best Protoss is Jaehoon. And yes I know Jaehoon has been awesome, but it's still funny.

SC2 is getting a much bigger global attention than bw because bw is almost korea exclusive. Like Artosis said in an interview, he thinks broodwar will eventually be replaced by SC2. I think there will be more companies supporting esport, be it korean or foreigns, given SC2 continue to grow more in global. We are seeing barcrafts, big tournaments adding SC2 into their list of games etc and it is only the first year. What I am worried is the expansions and what will happen to the current GSL, each expansions may split up the tournaments and fans and progamers.

It has nothing to do with this topic, which is specifically about Oz and Fox pulling out of esports. None of that stuff you said has anything to do with why this is bad for SC2 as well. Just because there is support globally does not mean that less support in Korea via companies pulling out of the esports market is somehow good for SC2. Do you understand the basic premise? Money is leaving the industry. Period. This has nothing to do with SC2 vs BW and how successful you think either one is or will be, this is the esports industry vs the economy.

To be honest I expected a slow transition to SC2.. I didn't expect things to end up like this...
