MBCGame to shut down? - Page 65
Forum Index > BW General |
Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it.

It's much better to try and seek out similar venues of entertainment! So I simply suggested to try and broaden your spectating horizons, especially targeting those who never gave another esport a chance, for example! But if nothing else is even remotely your cup of tea and Korean BW is absolutely the only e-sports you're willing to watch... I'm sorry. ![]() ![]() I'm trying to find a silver lining here but you guys aren't making it easy. I know we may seem like hardcores dudes who can't evolve, but it's really hard to find something as satisfying as epic BW moments. I must say that I could start following Quake since I also really like that game but it's not the same. And I don't know if Quake is really alive right now. I have no clue. Also, Quake is a good example of a game that evolved well. There were no dramatic changes but at least they kept the core there and I think that's what make it a successful game for quite a long time.

So what you're trying to say, is that when MBC announced it was closing down, we all should have said "screw this" and gone off to find other stuff. Who are you to say that we can't be unhappy that MBC is closing down?? Who are you to come into this thread and say we're all being silly and unreasonable that our favorite game is potentially losing on of it's largest proscene figures? If GOMtv was going out of business, no more GSL, would all of us narrow-minded BW fans have ANY place to come in and be like, OH WELL AT LEAST YOU GOT MLG LOL. There would be people that would do it, and that's classless and stupid. If GOMtv shut down it'd be really bad for SC2, and then when people cry about SC2 in Korea, are you going to go in there and tell them they are being silly? You do realize that 50% of SPL is with MBCGame, right? If you enjoy other ESPORTS, then good for you! That's not what this website is about. THATS NOT WHAT THIS THREAD IS ABOUT. This thread is focused on the fact that MBCGame could be going away forever. Go make a blog or something about the topic and tell us all about other ESPORTS we can get into after "BW is gone" because here isn't the place to be telling us that we're being stupid over this.

![]() Also, fuck all the stupid GLOBAL ESPORT HYPE bullshit, it has never worked the past 10+ years and there isn't much sign of any improvement beyond some amateur webtv streaming. If you think that's mainstream you have no fucking clue what mainstream is (hint: it isn't some nerd watching streams in their bedroom). Nothing has yet to achieve mainstream status like BW has and MBCgame / OGN / Kespa are the main players that accomplished this. My 8 year old cousin like JD, not because he likes videogames but because he thinks JD looks boss when crushing players with mutas. Look at BW streams and you see fangirls; they aren't fans of BW (as a game) but fan of the pros/teams and the showmanship aspect of BW. That is mainstream. Increased viewership of current games only goes to tell you that internet streaming has improved says nothing of viability of games becoming mainstream. Gaming nerds watching stream of videogames they play means absolutely nothing. Sponsorship from gaming hardware makers also mean nothing, they will put in the minimum amount to advertise and then cut n run when the next shiny game comes along. Esport in its nature is bubbly and cyclical and that is why its so rare for a scene to last for one singular game title. All in all, fuck esports I just want my BW ![]()

Well damn. I know we shouldn't be talking about that here anyway, so yeah thanks ![]()

And yes, I just want BW. Fuck esports, nothing has ever come even remotely close to BW in Korea and most likely never will in the foreseeable future.
