Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it.

Good that it's not final yet (read the update in OP), but even if it becomes final, I just can't believe the format would just... be gone. Instead, I expect another sponsor to buy the format, probably rename it, but in actuality continue the same tournament history.

Well you see, Brood War was very important in the development of eSports. Also you're talking on TeamLiquid where the connection between RTS and eSports is fairly large. Try going to a CounterStrike 1.6 forum and talk about eSports with them, they'll most likely also flock to that genre. It's not us acknowledging that eSports = RTS, as much as we acknowledge that RTS is an important aspect of eSports, and we only talk about said genre because like I said, it's a StarCraft-heavy community.

Please go read on the background of BW before posting your opinion on it. Do you even watch it? If you havent, I can tell you in terms of gameplay BW is miles ahead SC2 still has a long way to go. Thats why all of us are sad because if BW really ceases to exist, SC2 will never fill the void that is left behind.

I've been following e-sports for a long time. I've seen CS explode in popularity in the same tournaments that features SC2 right now and I've seen WC3 during the Moon/Grubby era from 2005/2006. They were great and I enjoyed them but they did not last 10+ years like BW and SC2 seems to be following the trend. Even if BW dies, it doesn't mean that any game will replace it.


interesting I dont have see that way, and this argument have the advantage to be ahead any scbw vs SC2 debat.

I want to add that in my opinion Starcraft is a good way to promote their country culture like they do with movies, K pop (for which i know), it make me gain interest to this country/subject with south korea people so it will be a shame to kill all that.

i don't even see where to bw ppl going to sc2 is coming from. bw is way more popular in korea. bw is a better game. bw has more money invested into it. so why would ppl from bw go to sc2?

It was ZergBong (iirc, one of the guys who swapped that is older) that said that SC2 is more about strategy and tactics over being able to multitask an insane amount. In BW you have to multitask so much JUST TO NOT DIE, you still have to win after that point.

I agree with this to an extent, SC2 seems to focus more on tactics of engagement and that sort of thing. Not going into SC2 v BW, but that's what I remember someone saying that actually made the swap.

Not really.. right now there is a lot more money poured into e-sports globally than inside Korea. It is true that the koreans have been doing this the longest, but their growth has been capped by the size of their own internal market, which in all honesty is peanuts compared to the potential markets in US or even europe.

You have no idea what you are talking about, that's what you were warned for. Top SCBW players make 6 figure salaries. That is without tournament winnings.

So please, stop posting about something you obviously have no clue about.


There's a huge gap between Flash and b-teamers though is it not? It's not unreasonable to think that when they see what sort of money is coming in from foreign organizations and events(just look at the transfers and deals this last week) the temptation to switch will increase. Especially since most b-teamers are quite likely to become top SC2 players before not too long as the scenes look right now.

As long as BW stood strong they had no reason to switch, but IF BW starts to dwindle that might change. Note that I'm not talking about Flash and JD, they'll probably make a nice living playing BW showmatches long after the competition is gone.

I can kind of understand it, in its own way. I don't agree with it 100%, but he asked and I told him what he said *shrug*

He might have swapped because the game is easier, but that doesn't necessarily make it worse. Either way, it worked for ZergBong, seeing as he's working on GSL final #3...lol.
