Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it.

As sad as this, i'm more sad that people still keep capitalising all of the word esports, it's not an acronym, so if you want to follow that logic spell it ESports, or E-Sports, or if you want to follow late 90s eMail convention/KeSPA style call it eSports. Or just stop equating everything that's good or bad for SC2 as a grand indictment/celebration of every other professional game.

Actually it's properly spelled ESPORTS.

No it isn't, it starts for Electronic Sports, it doesn't stand for Electronic Sports Of Real Time Strategy, unless somewhere someone has now decided this is the case over years of it meaning the former in both Korean and Western media. The idea that because day9 did it or it's done on TL suddenly makes it part of the zeitgeist and suddenly not a retarded perversion of centuries of capitalisation etiquette is absurd. You're probably trolling me but honestly why the fuck are Team Liquid, as an organisation of significant reputability condoning such a plain stupid way of referencing the thing they're trying to promote?

MY MIND IS BOGGLED.

It's a joke, kind of like the new "YOURE RUINING ESPORTS."

There was an article a long time ago (assuming you were after these times) where it was ESPORTS and SCIENCE.

All caps is a must.

Oh ok thanks for clearing that up, it's totally not apparent to people who don't get the reference. I mean i've been around here since 2006ish but I certainly haven't read every article ever posted.

Probably because it's not dying off to SC2. SC2 is in an even worse shape in Korea, so how can it possibly be the cause? T____T

Some people are dumb enough to think that ESPORTS is only games from RTS genre.

Good that it's not final yet (read the update in OP), but even if it becomes final, I just can't believe the format would just... be gone. Instead, I expect another sponsor to buy the format, probably rename it, but in actuality continue the same tournament history.

Well you see, Brood War was very important in the development of eSports. Also you're talking on TeamLiquid where the connection between RTS and eSports is fairly large. Try going to a CounterStrike 1.6 forum and talk about eSports with them, they'll most likely also flock to that genre. It's not us acknowledging that eSports = RTS, as much as we acknowledge that RTS is an important aspect of eSports, and we only talk about said genre because like I said, it's a StarCraft-heavy community.

Please go read on the background of BW before posting your opinion on it. Do you even watch it? If you havent, I can tell you in terms of gameplay BW is miles ahead SC2 still has a long way to go. Thats why all of us are sad because if BW really ceases to exist, SC2 will never fill the void that is left behind.

It's a natural law. (we also die one day)

Ok it's sad, a lot of drama, but SC2 will be there to receive all the ProBWGamer that will switch to keep made money playng games. After some time you'll feel confortable watching SC2 and you'll forget about BW.

And that same thing will happen to SC2 when SC3 will come.... it's a natural law.

Honestly i hope in a fast dead for BW so E-Sports and SC2 will take a big lead with tons of tournament and tons of player. The good thing about the SC2 scene is that it's becoming more and more international with many exchange between foreign torunament and korea player etc...

For the first time we could have a truly international E-Sport scene and this will be wonderfull!

I understand that you're SAD now but come on, everything is evolving...

Edit : I want to add that SC2 still miss 2 expansion so probably will become more intresting to watch in the future.

User was warned for this post

I've been following e-sports for a long time. I've seen CS explode in popularity in the same tournaments that features SC2 right now and I've seen WC3 during the Moon/Grubby era from 2005/2006. They were great and I enjoyed them but they did not last 10+ years like BW and SC2 seems to be following the trend. Even if BW dies, it doesn't mean that any game will replace it.

interesting I dont have see that way, and this argument have the advantage to be ahead any scbw vs SC2 debat.

I want to add that in my opinion Starcraft is a good way to promote their country culture like they do with movies, K pop (for which i know), it make me gain interest to this country/subject with south korea people so it will be a shame to kill all that.

It was ZergBong (iirc, one of the guys who swapped that is older) that said that SC2 is more about strategy and tactics over being able to multitask an insane amount. In BW you have to multitask so much JUST TO NOT DIE, you still have to win after that point.

I agree with this to an extent, SC2 seems to focus more on tactics of engagement and that sort of thing. Not going into SC2 v BW, but that's what I remember someone saying that actually made the swap.

Must. Not. Press. Report. Button.

Haven't you read the mod note at the top?
And a truly international ESPORTS scene? Lmao. No. Korea is the only country that has a "true" Esports scene.

Not really.. right now there is a lot more money poured into e-sports globally than inside Korea. It is true that the koreans have been doing this the longest, but their growth has been capped by the size of their own internal market, which in all honesty is peanuts compared to the potential markets in US or even europe.

right - because of course someone who makes the switch is likely to say "this is a worse game, it's just easier to be good at it cause the best players stayed in BW" if it's true

You have no idea what you are talking about, that's what you were warned for. Top SCBW players make 6 figure salaries. That is without tournament winnings.

So please, stop posting about something you obviously have no clue about.

There's a huge gap between Flash and b-teamers though is it not? It's not unreasonable to think that when they see what sort of money is coming in from foreign organizations and events(just look at the transfers and deals this last week) the temptation to switch will increase. Especially since most b-teamers are quite likely to become top SC2 players before not too long as the scenes look right now.

As long as BW stood strong they had no reason to switch, but IF BW starts to dwindle that might change. Note that I'm not talking about Flash and JD, they'll probably make a nice living playing BW showmatches long after the competition is gone.

I can kind of understand it, in its own way. I don't agree with it 100%, but he asked and I told him what he said *shrug*

He might have swapped because the game is easier, but that doesn't necessarily make it worse. Either way, it worked for ZergBong, seeing as he's working on GSL final #3...lol.
