Regardless of what happens, Brood War will survive, but it would be tragic if this was the beginning of the commercial pro scene.

Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it.

Also momentarily going off the tangent, but I really hope the Teamliquid community manages to carry on for decades. This rumour about MBC made me remember about several instances where my most favoured internet communities (mapside etc.) on childhood, however large and eternal it seemed to be, was closed to oblivion.

It's a natural law. (we also die one day) Ok it's sad, a lot of drama, but SC2 will be there to receive all the ProBWGamer that will switch to keep made money playng games. After some time you'll feel confortable watching SC2 and you'll forget about BW. And that same thing will happen to SC2 when SC3 will come.... it's a natural law. Honestly i hope in a fast dead for BW so E-Sports and SC2 will take a big lead with tons of tournament and tons of player. The good thing about the SC2 scene is that it's becoming more and more international with many exchange between foreign torunament and korea player etc... For the first time we could have a truly international E-Sport scene and this will be wonderfull! I understand that you're SAD now but come on, everything is evolving... Edit : I want to add that SC2 still miss 2 expansion so probably will become more intresting to watch in the future. User was warned for this post

Aside from SC2 it is no more popular than it has been anytime in the past years, and even the SC2 sponsors are the same ones that traditionally sponsored every other game that has been popular for a short time and then disappeared. The problem with these sponsors, is that they MUST promote newer games in place of the old ones in order to sell their products, it is a system that inherently cannot be sustainable. MBC, being a pillar of the BW model, represented an economic model that was upheld by sponsors, in who's interests was not to intentionally break an existing eSports scene in order to make way for every new game that comes out. While I find it honestly hard right now to even care what happens to eSports in general, in lew of the effects of this on BW, I find it hard to believe that people do not see that the 'thriving foreigner scene', that people are looking to light the way of eSports, is exactly what it looked like a decade or more ago, the exact system that has failed to promote anything even resembling a sustainable eSport to date. Yes, so many truths in your post. Esports in the true meaning of the word never ever happened in west with maybe few exceptions, its more of a culture difference, in west games are always tied with "silly business", we have great history of esports games (q3/cs1.6/bw/ut etc) yet still it was only a niche of video gaming as general. First sponsors were only the ones that were tied with computer industry, because that was the most basic implications of esports that it can only bring gamer viewers, after 10 years there was almost no improvement in this matter. In the west esports is still geek/nerd buisness with few exceptions (mostly when someone earns few millions on prizes). In Korea its different , the recognition of BW was big enough to move it into daily life(of course its small, but it IS), that has never happened in western esports, we can fairly assume its just cultural difference, and a (big)bit of luck. To overcome those barriers we would need a great developers with great plan, i humbly say starcraft 2 is not (yet) the piece to move that mountain. Im afraid it will never be, why? Just look @ sc2 history from the start, does blizzard really want to make a big move? No they want to establish a good mark for our current esports scene for few years, they are not looking move esports beyond what it is. + Show Spoiler + If they cannot implement freaking lan which was ALWAYS a vital part of a COMPETITION, esports are about competiton yes, no its not about implementing your friends from facebook into BN2.0 Sorry if i derailed the topic, but i did it by purpose, if MBC falls and later OGN (i wish fkin not to happen for both) and bw dies in Korea you may not see esports in your daily television for years.

And a truly international ESPORTS scene? Lmao. No. Korea is the only country that has a "true" Esports scene.

It's not easy to replace BW. Especially with SC2. Sorry. As for your question, I don't know ![]()

That is without tournament winnings. So please, stop posting about something you obviously have no clue about.

But seriously, unless Blizzard completely overhauls SC2 to fix its flaws, I couldn't care less about the game. I find any MU involving Protoss horrible to watch. God, I wish IEG was still into BW, they could've bought MBCGame or at least their BW content... They seemed to have the money.

I've seen CS explode in popularity in the same tournaments that features SC2 right now and I've seen WC3 during the Moon/Grubby era from 2005/2006. They were great and I enjoyed them but they did not last 10+ years like BW and SC2 seems to be following the trend. Even if BW dies, it doesn't mean that any game will replace it.
